Josh Harrison wants out of Pittsburgh now.
Darn, too bad we are so loaded.
No room for better players, sorry.

Such dumb asses

Content to rotate the DH and use Robbie effing Grossman too much.

History repeating itself in Pittsburgh

I fully expect it to repeat in MN

Doing zero to help the offense was a terrible decision.

Matt will tell you they got that PCL batting champion Buss guy and that bolsters the offense.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/17/2018 9:19:19 AM)

I don't understand why everyone is so angry before free agency is even close to being wrapped up? Nobody has signed any of the top dozen starting pitchers! We are not alone.

As noted

Not one venture to SoDAK

go to Worthington every year. that was embarrassing.

You would think if the attendance is less than 100 people the Twins would scratch the venue from their list.

Eh, maybe you reduce that number to 50 people otherwise they could just shit-can the entire caravan experience.

The window is open NOW

It's a limited run the way the cheap ass Pohlad's see it.

With no extensions and salaries coming off the books, they'll be cashing in until the window closes and they'll sell out the fans.

Count on it.

I would not classify it as selling out on the fans. If the window closes, they will try to pull a Houston or Kansas City by bottoming out and then coming back even stronger. In the long run, that's actually better for the fans. It paid off for Houston. It paid off for Kansas City. Pittsburgh is going to try it now. Chasing that neon rainbow every single year doesn't work. Even for the big money teams. Look at the Dodgers as prime example #1. They are always competitive, but never get over the hump. They should think about scrapping it and starting over.

The point is you have to go after it when you have a window open. The Twins are the poster boy franchise for starting over.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/17/2018 9:27:09 AM)

Matt, because MN rarely goes for it. Haven't really since 1991/92

I mean REALLY go for it. Significant adds.

Just piddle around here and there. Offensively they were very good last year. But not good enough. Improvement from w/in isn't enough.

And a guy like McCutcheon is there on the cheap to improve depth and RH hitting.

And they didn't make a move. Bleh

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/17/2018 9:42:13 AM)

I just don't see how McCutchen was a good fit here. He's on the down side of his career. We have a young nucleus. I'm not ready to stunt Kepler's maturation as a player at this point. He may be a platoon player, but we don't know that for sure yet. Our outfield is full. Grossman is a capable DH, but I bet we bring in someone else that can fill that role without having to give up much of anything (player assets or money). I like where we are.

4th of/DH for Kepler/Rosario/McCutcheon

Rotate guys/days off

Give me McCutcheon rotating in the OF over Grossman and McSlappy

ANY day in 2018 season.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/17/2018 10:25:25 AM)

Production

The big kids added more production

Robbie Grossman is not going to give you the numbers that is needed to WIN.

McCutheon .279 Average 28 HRs, 85 RBI's...14 million
Grossman .256 Average 12 HRs 48 RBI's...2 million

Bottom line is the 12 million saved....

OBP

Grossman .361 in 2017, .386 in 2016
McCutchen .363 in 2017, .336 in 2016

Grossman more consistent with his OBP skills.

Ok, so stat geeks and penny pinchers win. 12 million saved...why should fans care? These guys are trying to convince the masses they can win without many changes.

I don't buy it.

Pitching needs help. Hopefully that gets addressed. There will be many times where the Twins will have needed a good RH bat that they didn't pick up. They will continue to struggle vs slop ball lefties because the kids aren't it. Kepler will have to make a HUGE turn around vs LHP otherwise you get to see the discount bin RH guys struggle too.

I want them to get deep into the playoffs and win. This roster will not do it. There's not enough to face the "mega team" builds out there.

You know what I say....look at the WAR on the two....Cutch is 2.5, Grossman 0.8. Also who would you rather be in the outfield when needed? Who is a former MVP candidate? Lets put it this way would you rather have Kirby Puckett or Gene Larkin/Randy Bush? Grossman should be a Larkin/Bush bench player on this team.

I don't mind Grossman as a last guy, pinch hit, get on base, occasional player. McCutch is a full timer.

Phil Riewer -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/17/2018 3:00:48 PM)

There is only one reason not to sign McCutchen and it is a reach----you think Rooker will be up midseason and make a Judge type impact.

TJSweens -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/17/2018 3:10:22 PM)

McCutchen was gotten for a solid young major league reliever and a promising 22 year old OF in high A ball. I'm hard pressed to believe the Twins couldn't beat that offer. It wouldn't even have put a dent in their system. I get that the priority is to add quality starting pitching, but my God, if McCutchen is available for that cheap, why wouldn't you make a bid?

Trekgeekscott -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/17/2018 3:15:01 PM)

Maybe I missed something. Was our front office even interested in picking up McCutchen? Or is this just fan fantasy?

I am indifferent on this part of it. We have some fine young outfielders and more on the way in the minors. OF Really should be our last concern. get us Darvish, and Moosetacos dump Grossman and some other worthless bullpen noodle and I'm good. Sign a good starting pitcher to go with Berrios and Santana. Moosetacos relegates Sano to DH for this year and gives us a good bad and way better glove at 3B and Escobar can return to the job he most excels at ...supersub.

We've gotten a couple bullpen arms. Now we need to close the deal on Darvish or Arretta or someone else...

That's our biggest hole. Let's please throw a lot of dirt in it and stop worrying about declining veterans from other teams...

The point being that our FO SHOULD have been interested a pick up like that for that cheap. A quality addition to the lineup without much of a price tag.

What do you think Moose is getting and how many years? You trade for McCutch on that contract 12-14 million even if you only have him for a year before Rooker is ready....it was a no brainer to get him.

The Twins could afford McCutch and Darvish....easily. They have Esky or Polanco at 3rd if needed.....need another RH bat that kills lefties. LH are eating our lunch. Teams are leaving in LH relievers to face our RH. Kind of tells you we don't have a RH bat that crushes LH......our RH are even better against RH.

TJSweens -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/17/2018 3:40:28 PM)

Yep. The only drawback to Moose is that he is a lefty and we really need to add RH pop, especially in the OF. I would also say Moose is NOT an upgrade defensively at 3B. He is pretty well on par with Sano.

Disappointed in their season

Longoria at third
McCutcheon in the OF
Think Buster wants to leave that?

NO way....That's why the Giants have won multiple World Series the past decade AND we won in 1991 when actually went for it!

Whether or not some kid comes up and rocks our world ... should have nothing to do with adding a really good veteran in the off-season.
