It would be one thing if commissioners weren't in the Hall.  But since owner reps are in the Hall (and some horrible ones at that), why not union leaders who made the game what it is today?

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2013 10:57:57 AM)

Just read a Craig Calcaterra tweet that has me thinking: does LaRussa make the HOF if there were no steroids in the game?

Roy Halladay is retiring.  Wow.  Talk about falling off a cliff.

This happenes to baseball players who don't juice quite a bit.  Ken Griffey Jr was similar.  Really good, then suddenly sleeping in the clubhouse is more interesting.

LaRusa, Torre and Cox all elected to the HOF and all deserve it.

Agree, I'm fine with all those.  Marvin Miller should have made it as well, though.

I disagree on Miller. He's a union guy, not baseball man

No union man has had a greater effect on baseball than Marvin Miller.  He's had more of an effect on baseball than most owners and commissioners have.

He most certainly should be given a spot in Cooperstown.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2013 12:27:04 PM)

Baseball-Reference's Fan EloRater has Roy Halladay as the 55th best pitcher of all-time. That's behind Kevin Brown at #54. I'm a proponent of Kevin Brown as a HOFer, but I don't see how anyone could look at the complete body of work and say Brown had a better career. Tim Hudson is #58. I love Tim Hudson, I really do, but to rank him only 3 slots behind Halladay is a travesty.

9:02am: Davis' two-year deal is in the $9-10MM range, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (on Twitter). That number continues a surprising increase in the going rate for a fourth outfielder, as Nate McLouth recently signed for $10.75MM over two years with the Nationals.

Yuck. REALLY glad the Twins didn't sign this guy for that much.

We're interested in Rajai Davis instead of Shin Choo-Choo. That's all we need to know about how this team operates.

What a bizarre signing by Detroit.  Glad they saved the Twins' bacon on that one.

Indeed. Band-Aid methods for positional players. Wait for the prospects.

So they wind up with average pitching, crap offense. That'll work.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/10/2013 2:10:38 PM)

The hevaily rumored three-team trade between the Angels, Diamondbacks and White Sox has been completed, a source tells Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Mark Trumbo and a pair of players to be named later will head to the Diamondbacks, Adam Eaton will join the White Sox and Hector Santiago and Tyler Skaggs are headed to the Angels (Twitter links).

So the Sox give up a young lefty starter(25) for a Ben Revere-type CF.

Good for them.

Giving Davis that kind of money is about like signing Aaron Hicks to the same contract. Unbelievable stupidity by Detroit.

At least they likely have the sense to use him correctly.  He can hit lefties and will be a highly effetive pinch runner.  They probably overpaid him, but for them, he's more of a last-piece-of-the puzzle guy.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/11/2013 9:46:15 AM)

Play on the West Coast dude. Then you can wear your sunglasses at night.

Corey Hart is currently weighing offers from multiple teams, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (on Twitter).

Love the way that guy plays.  He never surrenders.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/11/2013 10:03:20 AM)

This is one I get a kick out of . It's how Twitter has changed sports and events like this.

Sure, teams listen. Big deal. If they didn't listen on every player, they would not be doing their job. But these guys make it sound like
they're all wheeling and dealing, virtually non-stop.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports looks at the Tribe's surplus of outfielders (on Twitter) with Michael Bourn, Michael Brantley, David Murphy, Drew Stubbs and Ryan Raburn all in the fold, noting that something is likely to give. Rosenthal notes that Cleveland is listening on virtually all of its players.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/11/2013 10:23:16 AM)

Totally agree, Ed.  "Listening" is the worst term in these things.  Virtually meaningless.

That's a good signing.

I know a lot of people don't like him, but for 1 year, that's reasonable.
