One of the best and most important days of the year.

I watched MLB Network's roundtable HOF discussion last night. There was one guy in particular that was very annoying. He didn't think anyone should go in the HOF. Completely clinging to the past. "If he's not as good as Joe Morgan, he's not in." Can't remember the guy's name...he was the only guy at the table that didn't look familiar at all.

Bob Costas seemed more old school than I thought he would be. Relies on the eye test for HOFers. Seems to only see the number he wants to see. I was a little surprised and disappointed in his analysis.

I'm hoping Maddux, Glavine and Thomas get it. And I'm hoping Raines' percentage goes up, although I'm not too hopeful on that this year with the loaded ballot. Finally, I hope that Jeff Kent and Larry Walker have decent showings. Hopefully nobody that deserves further consideration gets under the 5% (like Kenny Lofton last year).

If Maddux doesn't get in on the first try the voting criteria is entirely flawed. Thomas can sit for a season or two. The same for Glavine. But they both belong. Just say no to Craig Biggio. He was a roider. Same for Kent and Walker. They played during the PED era and I believe they were guilty even if they didn't use themselves.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 8:37:41 AM)

Well, I guess it's confirmed that Maddux will not get 100% of the vote. Here's a guy that says he voted for only one man: Jack Morris.

KEN GURNICK, Dodgers beat reporter
Morris

Morris has flaws -- a 3.90 ERA, for example. But he gets my vote for more than a decade of ace performance that included three 20-win seasons, Cy Young Award votes in seven seasons and Most Valuable Player Award votes in five. As for those who played during the period of PED use, I won't vote for any of them.

How you vote for Morris and not Maddux is beyond comprehension. This writer should not have a vote.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 8:44:28 AM)

After inspecting some of the ballots MLB.com has released, it appears Edgar Martinez may fall under 5%. The ballot is just too crowded.

Agreed.  As if players were waiting for Morris to retire to start taking PEDs.  [&o]

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 9:26:37 AM)

I hope Biggio gets in too, but I just don't see it happening this year. Maybe next year.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 9:29:52 AM)

Based on the votes that have been publicized, looks like he'll be very close.  I bet he's in next year if he misses this year.

Starting to think Glavine and Thomas are shoe ins.

If they are HOFers in your eyes they why make them sit?
What evidence do you have that Biggio is a roider and Thomas, Glavie and Maddux are not..they all played in the same era with Kent and Walker.

and anyone that played in that era was guilty if if they didn't use, then why do you give Maddux a pass?  and Glavine and Thomas?

Your rant makes no sense.

The Marlins have re-signed right-hander Kevin Slowey to a minor league deal, according to Baseball America's Matt Eddy (on Twitter). Slowey is a client of Relativity Baseball (formerly known as SFX).

Great signing.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 12:45:36 PM)

Moises Alou with 5% [:-]

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 1:08:38 PM)

This whole "I'm gonna decide who was affected by roids" mentality has to stop.
The LA writer is just plain batshit crazy.
Take that vote away.
Everyone's eligible, and every stat stands. If the game didn't police it at the time, so be it.
Move on. Test better. Punish harder. Stop with the morality play. It's childish.
Some things you just have to move past.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 1:11:36 PM)

Maddux, Glavine, and Thomas are in

Amen.  Are we going to pretend that 1990-2005 (or whatever the dates are) just didn't happen?  It's beyond absurd.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 1:20:54 PM)

And Biggio missed by like .02%

Biggio juuuuuuuust misses.

A class of four would have been the first class of four in over 50 years and would help alleviate the contuning log jam.  Nonetheless, getting three in today helps, and all three of those guys are no doubters.  Congrats to them.

No go for Morris, who lost votes compared to last year.  Same for Bonds and Clemens.

I suspect Morris will get in via Veteran's Committee in a few years.

I think it's .2, but either way, not much.  I wonder how many votes that is.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 1:25:17 PM)

Biggio needed just one more vote. I guess this proves every vote matters. I blame that doorknob that only voted for Morris.

Yep.  If he had just not submitted his vote, the dominator changes, and Biggio is likely in.  What an asshole.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 1:26:29 PM)

Legal action?

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 1:27:13 PM)

16 people left Maddux of the ballot.  What a joke.

Absolutely sucks
Biggio was a helluva player for a long time
One idiot kept him out, that's sad.
