Jeff Kent only got 15% of the vote. I saw his name on quite a few of the MLB.com ballots. I thought maybe he'd fare better than that. With a weaker ballot next year, he should jump up. He has a long ways to go to ever get to 75%. He's a very interesting case IMO. More HR and extra base hits than any 2B in history. I really think he should get in, but I doubt he ever makes it.

Thing is, it's not much weaker next year.  Pedro/Unit/Smoltz/Sheffield all are added to replace Maddux/Glavine/Thomas/Morris.

A lot of writers tweeting they had Biggio ranked 11th.  He's in next year for sure; I doubt they'll let him miss by two votes again.

Breaking news: Biggio may be in!

I stand corrected. I thought Pedro and Unit were another year away.

I'll be surprised if none of the 1st 3 are not in.

Bobby Cox got voted in. What a shame. All those pitchers in the HOF(when Smoltz gets in) and he couldn't manage more than 1 title.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 3:58:37 PM)

So 4 guys will probably get in next year (Biggio, Pedro, Unit, Smoltz). Griffey is the big name the following year, I think. That might be a year for Raines or Bagwell to get in. Depends upon how big the SABR blogger lobby is.

I wasn't surprised that Raines went down this year. Hoping he can move back up over the next couple years. He still has 7 or 8 years left, so there's time.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 4:07:31 PM)

Agree, I think those four make it year.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 4:20:25 PM)

Even money that Frenchy's lone vote came from LEN?

Definitely not a SABR stat-head.

Yup. Regarding Biggio, IMO he was a roider because he was a small guy who hit more HR than you would think based upon his size. Roids were most likely a factor. And I don't believe his numbers get him in based upon stats alone.

CPAMAN -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 4:39:05 PM)

And Biggio missed by like .02%

Next year then.

16 people left Maddux of the ballot.  What a joke.

The election committee should require all voters to provide reasons why they voted the way that they did. Is this a secret ballot or is it public? In any event, any voter who left off Greg Maddux has some splainin' to do.

Jacque Jones got a vote for the HOF? Seriously?

Anyone who voted for Jacques Jones for the Hall of Fame should be immediately
detained
hospitalized
tested
quarantined
and either placed in
isolation
or executed. (depending on test results)
Absolutely no excuse for someone that out of touch with reality to be walking free in the world.
I'm dead serious.
What, Denny Hocking is no longer eligible?

The 16 people who did not vote for Greg Maddux are just as stupid and guilty of abusing their privilege to be on an honorary committee. They really need to reconsider who gets to vote and why they are in the position they are in to even have the privilege.

The Baseball writers show a LITTLE spine:

Dan Le Batard, the ESPN host who gave his ballot to the web site Deadspin so its readers could cast a Hall of Fame ballot, will no longer be allowed to vote on Hall of Fame candidates and has been suspended for one year by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

"The BBWAA Board of Directors has decided to remove Dan Le Batard’s membership for one year, for transferring his Hall of Fame ballot to an entity that has not earned voting status," said BBWAA president La Velle E. Neal III, who covers baseball for the Star Tribune. "The punishment is allowed under the organization’s constitution."

Neal added: "The BBWAA regards Hall of Fame voting as the ultimate privilege, and any abuse of that privilege is unacceptable."

Meanwhile, some dipshit votes only for Morris because he allegedly didn't play during the "steroid era" -- but that's OK.  Another dipshit (Chass), who had been planning on giving up his ballot, publically states that he intends to keep it to (in his words) spite the writers who disagreed with his ballot -- but that's OK.

Way to make a statement, LEN.

That solidifies that

Anyone who votes LEN III as the President of anything besides deciding where to eat, needs to have their vote pulled.

CPAMAN -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/9/2014 5:16:33 PM)

And how exactly does Len justify his privilege to vote by casting a vote for Jacque Jones? Please explain this to me.

LeVelle of all people should talk. I'm no Pedro Martinez fan, but if you recall he left Martinez off the MVP ballot (along with a NY sportswriter) just to make a point.
Before he speaks out on this debacle he needs to ask himself...is this really any different than what he did?

I'm not so sure it is
