16 people left Maddux of the ballot.  What a joke.

One of the easiest unanimous choices of our lifetime and they screw that up too.
As should be Barry Bonds (gasp)
Yeah. I said it.

16 people should have their asses removed from voting.  The easiest slam dunk case in years.  One idiot did it because he wont vote for anyone that played during the steroid era.  Dumbass...the steroid era started in the late 60s.  Hell throw amphetamines in there and you can go back to the 50s.

And there are dumbshits out there that for some unfathomable reason actually think a guy shouldn't go in unanimously so they wont vote for them even though they do think they are a hall of famer.  That's just a dumb reason not to vote for someone.  If you think they deserve enshrinement...then vote for them.  There shouldn't be any question about it.

Some people are just idiots.

This whole "I'm gonna decide who was affected by roids" mentality has to stop.
The LA writer is just plain batshit crazy.
Take that vote away.
Everyone's eligible, and every stat stands. If the game didn't police it at the time, so be it.
Move on. Test better. Punish harder. Stop with the morality play. It's childish.
Some things you just have to move past.

Amen.  Are we going to pretend that 1990-2005 (or whatever the dates are) just didn't happen?  It's beyond absurd.

Steroids started long before 1990 and they're still suspending guys today for use.

I really think these writers need to get their heads out of there asses about steroid use...because MLB willingly looked the other way and did nothing to test for or punish these guys for the better part of 20 years, when they knew it was epidemic.

Don't blame the players for cheating when the rules were neither tested nor enforced.

I believe some vote bizarrely just because they can and sportswriter from xyz gets a little national attention for it.

Legal action?

What for?

If he got that close he's likely a lock to get in next year.

It's a virtual guarantee.

Bonds: arguably the best player of all time, and certainly the best I've ever seen live.  It boggles the mind that he is not in the Hall of Fame.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 2:03:23 PM)

Baseball continues to run by its so-called moral code, and a bunch of sportswriters, some who likely have issues of their own, decide
who gets into the HOF.

Steroid/PED/Cheating are not ok

Beanball is not ok

If the baseball writers ran the NFL voting, and didn't vote in the "bad' people, Canton would be pretty empty.

Thank you

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 2:08:09 PM)

The National Baseball Hall of Fame inducted three new members Wednesday: Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Frank Thomas. Jack Morris, in his final year of eligibility on the ballots of the Baseball Writers' Association of America, did not make the cut. Reusse included Morris, as well as the three newly enshrined.

Here is his ballot:

Jeff Bagwell

Craig Biggio

Jack Morris

Tim Raines

Greg Maddux

Frank Thomas

Tom Glavine

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 2:09:14 PM)

Reusse got it right

Bonds
McGwire

Not in the Hall. Never likely will be, until they're dead. Maybe not even then.

Petey baseball, too.

Karras/Hornung bet on games, eventually got in. What makes baseball so holier-than-thou?

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 2:14:53 PM)

Ed, your "some issues of their own" strikes a chord ... I think you're spot on.
Freaking rock throwing glass house living hypocrites

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 2:18:00 PM)

NFL:

LT is a drug user/wife cheater and who knows what else?

He was a great FB player.

What did they base his induction on?

Michael Irvin

Karras

Hornung

And so on.

So LaVelle and Reusse, a guy who votes only for Morris, another who lets people on deadspin.com vote for the Hall

and who knows how many others who vote by spite, don't vote at all

decide baseball's best.....

Trekgeekscott -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 2:21:56 PM)

Re: Bonds.  He did himself no favors with the media.  Was always a self centered prick who hated the media and the feeling was quite mutual.  He tried to blame a teammate once for pills found in his locker.

One of the greatest all time to be sure...but an unquestioned cheater.  If you start by putting him in, then take the stigma off of everyone else.  You can use the argument that before he cheated he was well on his way to the HOF, but I think he's his own worst enemy.  I think he gets in before he's 60 but he did as much to put himself in this predicament as anyone.

I just think they should throw the steroid consideration out.

There is actually a writer that wouldn't vote for Maddux.  likey wont vote for Ken Griffey Jr when he's eligible etc...That's just stupid.

Steroids are not ok.  PEDs are (Mantle, Mays, other greenies users).  Certain types of cheating (spitballs, scuffing baseball) are also ok.

Frickin' ridiculous.

But he forgot to vote for Bonds and Clemens.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 2:27:51 PM)

On Pete Rose: I get why he's banned for MLB for life (and in fact, agree with it).  But there is no reason he shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame.

Good point
The morality players have even got me forgetting who is eligible. [&o]

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 2:28:51 PM)

No one will ever get in with 100% of the vote.  There will alwas be a few dicks who think they are more important than the people they are electing into the Hall.

Bingo
Same with these others
Numbers and performance put you in
You can't erase them (now)

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 2:34:05 PM)

I think some day...when they're dead, some will get in the Hall.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 3:11:08 PM)

Jeff Kent only got 15% of the vote. I saw his name on quite a few of the MLB.com ballots. I thought maybe he'd fare better than that. With a weaker ballot next year, he should jump up. He has a long ways to go to ever get to 75%. He's a very interesting case IMO. More HR and extra base hits than any 2B in history. I really think he should get in, but I doubt he ever makes it.

borderliner at best imho.  He was good, even won an MVP IIRC.  I wouldn't be terribly upset if he got into the Hall.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2014 3:12:54 PM)

Jacque Jones received one HOF vote.

J.T. Snow received 2.
