Now this is sad. Garza at this rate is a bargain, if it happens.

Garza-Brewers talking 4-years, $52M deal, per @Ken_Rosenthal. Same story on #MNTwins: won't do 4-years. Probably would've done 2-years.

Stacey King -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/23/2014 2:16:36 PM)

Maddux should go in as a Brave. What is he thinking?
-----------

Torre Will Enter Hall With Yankees Cap, Maddux With No Logo

Joe Torre will go in with a Yankees cap, but Greg Maddux will go with no logo. That’s the word Thursday from the Hall of Fame, which announced which plaques will have caps with team logos from the six new members to be inducted in July.

In quotes provided by the Hall, Torre, who won four World Series with the Yankees, stated, “I was lucky that my career took me only to great baseball towns. Every place where I played or managed is special to me because of the memories and the friendships that each afforded me. When I became the manager of the New York Yankees, it was an opportunity to realize my lifelong dream of winning the World Series. We were fortunate enough to succeed in our first season in 1996, and in the years that followed, we wrote some great new chapters in Yankee history. I am honored that I will wear the Yankee logo on my cap in Cooperstown to represent what our teams achieved together.”

Bobby Cox will go with a Braves cap, Tom Glavine with the Braves, Frank Thomas with the White Sox and Tony La Russa, who managed the A’s, White Sox and Cardinals, will go with no logo.

Hall of Fame president Jeff Idelson said fans of the team or players should not take the lack of logo as a slight.

“The Museum staff works with each inductee by suggesting an appropriate logo option, or no logo at all,” Idelson said in a statement. “For those whose most compelling contributions clearly took place with one team, a logo makes sense. For those whose careers were built significantly among multiple teams, not having a team logo is equally acceptable. Regardless of the selection, a Hall of Famer belongs to every team for which he played or managed, as well as every fan who followed his career.”

The six newest members of the Hall of Fame will be inducted in Cooperstown on Sunday, July 27.

Many will.

Maddux should go in as a Bravo, LaRussa as a STL.

I always think of LaRussa as the A's manager.

Is Maddux trying to buy some friends in Chicago? At least he's not going in with a Cubs cap.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/23/2014 2:40:21 PM)

Agree that LaRussa meant ... As to me
Torre meant Yanks first, cards next
Maddux must have a hard on for someone or something that happened in Atnalta

Trekgeekscott -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/23/2014 2:41:58 PM)

Maddux won his first of four Cy Youngs IIRC with the Cubs.  Had most of his best years with the Braves though.  All his teams will be listed on his plaque anyway.

When the team you like stinks and refuses to do things to really improve I find most conversations here are essentially like arguing over a pair of sunglasses while the spaceship you are on is going to crash into the sun.

But don't overlook the spitting factor. Garza is inhuman when it comes to saliva development.

It's a matter of laziness when I post with an IPad.
Don't read it if it bothers you.
My grandparents were both English teachers.
My Mother was the biggest stickler for pronunciation, spelling, punctuation, and overall grammar usage .... I've ever met.
So rest assured, I do know when I'm bothering you anal-ists. (Intentional)

So, was the four dot "elipses" intentional too?  [;)][8D]

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/23/2014 3:19:28 PM)

It was a dramatic pause ..... Where I attempted to think of ways to respond civilly to over-anal analysis of a harmless post.
..................... (Kinda like that one).

(Secretly hoping the use of "kinda" makes someone's head explode)

I can assure Mays was not my next bullet. And no I wouldn't put Liriano ahead of Baker either. He is an even bigger potato chip than Scott.

That's ridiculous. I'll take a Sandy Koufax over Vida Blue any day of the week.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/23/2014 3:57:33 PM)

Maddux as a Brave. Best individual and team years, and longer with them than anyone else. That's just crazy.

I see more of an argument for LaRussa going in w/ no team.

Are we gonna let Dave get away with comparing Liriano to Koufax and Baker to Blue?

Absolutely not. Blue is a lefty and Baker is a righty.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/23/2014 4:14:30 PM)

Baker is more Don Sutton.

I was sure you were going to go Don Drysdale.

Scott and Vida are basically the same person. Hell, they even look alike.

Moon Shot Baker, Blue Moon Odom.

It has the same rhythmic cadence. Both might be members of the Unification Church[sm=other-checkitout.gif]

TJSweens -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/27/2014 12:08:57 PM)

Well it's now official. Matt Garza reaches a deal with the Brewers for slightly less money than we first thought. 4 years / $50M. There are even a couple of clauses that protect Milwaukee against arm injuries.

I would like to restate for the record... Terry Ryan, go away! You clearly have no idea of where to spend and not to spend. The modern game of baseball has passed you by. Please, just go away!

It has to be one of the following:
1. Pohlads are lying about spending more money and Ryan covers up for them.
2. Pohlads are willing to spend more money but Ryan doesn't because he is incompetent.

It has to be one or the other. Nothing else besides these two choices is even possible. Why nobody in the media corners them and calls them out is beyond me.

If the Twins are mediocre this year I would rather they lose 120 games.

Sweens, if you saw Gardy on TV last night being interviewed on Fox 9 during the 10:00 pm newscast, you would not believe how smug he was acting. He had this look on his face like he was some kind of special god-like person who was a baseball know-it-all. His body language was suggesting "my shit doesn't stink even when I back up the toilet". You could tell he is under zero pressure. TR and Gardy have no obligation to win baseball games. All they have to do is presumably try. That is it. [:'(][:'(]
