TV game tonite 5/25: Lynx @Phx is on local FSN 9:00pm tip time ...... only down side (hopefully) it'll be the Mercury crew doing the broadcast

FSN-North too cheap to send a MN crew on the road?

That's pretty low.
Guess the gals need to win a championship or two to get some resp........ wait. Nevermind.

There's no $ in the WNBA.

Come on now, there's room on TV for a few more games It wouldn't break the bank.

Nothing comes for free. There was no $ in the early days of men's pro sports either. You have to be willing to invest in something for it to grow. Glen Taylor stuck with it, losing money (just like he has w/the Wolves) and the Lynx with increased interest, a rise in sponsorships, a the little TV $$ teams get are 1 of the WNBA teams operating in the black. 3 Championships in 5yrs, in contention for a 4th title ... its been a fun journey for some of us sports fan, well worth the 18yr ride. Too bad so many have slept on it or just chose to dismiss the WNBA/Lynx, their loss.

As for the boy's league subsidizing the W, sure they piggy back on the network & apparel rights but what they put into the W as a league each yr is less then what Lebron James makes a year. Chump change to the NBA.
Hey the only way the Twins or Twolves have been making any $ of late is likely from revenue sharing of the other more successful teams.
Given more of a chance by some there could be more $ in the WNBA.

Single game +/- can be really noisy, but Maya’s +21 tells a very accurate story in this first half.

Not loving blowing big leads and having to hold on the past 2 games, but I'll take the W.

They clearly lost interest for awhile when they got up by 23. Once the other team gets a full head of steam, it's hard to stop.

Maya Moore named WNBA’s Western Conference Player of the Month

Moore, the 2013 WNBA Finals MVP and 2014 regular-season MVP, led all Western Conference players in scoring during May (22.3 ppg) and guided Minnesota to a league-best 6-0 start. She also ranked second in the West in assists (5.3 apg), sixth in field goal percentage (.544, 49-of-90) and blocks (1 bpg), and seventh in three-point shooting (.409, 9-of-22), along with contributing 4.6 rebounds per game.

Moore opened 2016 with 27 points and a career-high 10 assists in a resounding 95-76 win over the visiting Phoenix Mercury on May 14. She then contributed 22 points and six assists in a 97-80 road win over the Chicago Sky on May 18. Moore also tallied 34 points in a win at Phoenix on May 25, including the tie-breaking layup with 36.5 seconds remaining. The 34-point effort equaled the WNBA single-game high this season set by Los Angeles’ Parker (against Seattle on May 15) and extended Moore’s franchise record for 30-point games to 18.

Additional highlights of Moore’s play in May included:

-May 22 at Seattle: 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks in a 78-71 win
-May 31 at New York: 25 points, six rebounds and three assists in a 79-69 victory

8-0

Big 2nd half comeback. First game we'd been down by more than 5 points all year.

Griner continues to be a huge disappointment. Shame, the league could really use her.

Griner actually pretty effective while in the game. Dominated the first half. Sylvia got her in foul trouble second half and that was that.

She hasn't gotten any better. She's the exact same player she was in her 2nd year. That 15/8 looked like it should've been her floor. It might be her ceiling.

She had 14/6 tonight. That should be a poor game for someone with her talent. But its her season averages.

Exactly what I see
Expected huge numbers from her, its not happening.
I saw "disinterested" body language the other night. Lots of it.

And now we're done with her until (potentially) the Playoffs.

Weird schedule this year. We play Phoenix 3 times this year and we've played all 3 in our first 8 games.

Canis:

s never easy when you have to play the Phoenix Mercury. The Lynx are quite familiar with that fact as they've already had to play them three times in only eight games this year. It's even harder when a normally hot-start team shoots 26.3 percent from the field in the first half.

Minnesota started the game by going 0 for 10, and didn't get its first field goal until 3:49 left in the quarter from Janel McCarville. All year the Lynx have build large leads early on and coasted to victory but not in this one.

"If you told me we'd shot 37 percent playing Phoenix, I'd have told you we lost by 20," head coach Cheryl Reeve commented after the game.

The Mercury shot 49.2 percent. They won the rebound battle 36-28. They outscored the Lynx in the fast break and in the paint. But the Lynx did not lose by 20. They won 89-81, and remain unbeaten at 8-0, tied with the L.A. Sparks at the same mark.

It's a shame the season series is over between these two teams. Each game has been more physical than the last but Phoenix won't have another shot at redemption unless they meet in the playoffs.

In the previous two games, Brittney Griner struggled because she got into foul trouble. This game was no different, though she did at least wait until the second quarter to pick up her third foul. In fact, Sylvia Fowles played less than four minutes in the first because of two fouls of her own which allowed Griner to go off on the Lynx. She had 10 points and five rebounds at half as Phoenix took a 38-32 lead into the locker room.

Griner picked up her fourth foul halfway through the third, and then her fifth with 1:07 left in the quarter after Phoenix head coach Sandy Brondello inexplicably put her back in the game. Although the Lynx had pulled the game back to within two, there was no need to risk losing your star center as she has clearly shown a lack of discipline when it comes to not fouling this team.

After she went out, Fowles went off. "It was my time to take over the game. My teammates had an understanding of how to get me the ball and where I needed to be, at the right time," Fowles said after the game. She ended with 21 points and eight rebounds and was 9-10 from the free throw line. She and Rebekkah Brunson led the Lynx come back in the second half with some help from Maya Moore as well.

Brunson got the game ball from Reeve and it was well-deserved. She scored all 12 of her points in the second half and had nine rebounds and four assists, including the one to Renee Montgomery for the dagger three to go up by eight with less than two minutes in the game. "I think the second half was dependent on our defense. We were able to get our stops and able to come back down and do what we wanted offensively and did a great job of sharing the ball," Brunson said when asked what the difference was between the two halves.

Montgomery scored 18 points and went 3-5 from deep. Maya Moore scored 21 points with six assists and four rebounds.

Despite the victory, there was some loss for the Lynx last night. Seimone Augustus got hit in the head by a Mercury elbow and has entered the league's concussion protocol. It happened early in the third quarter and appeared to be inadvertent. We will have to wait and see if she can play against the Atlanta Dream this Friday.
