Can we call it one more disappointing season, now?

Incredibly disappointing. What has hurt them worse than the injury bug is the regression of Houston and Anosike.

Did the trade for Lindsey work out?  How did Connecticut's pick do compared to the Lynx' selection?

Tulsa Shock & good 'ol Nolan Richardson have trade Alexais Hornbuckle (G) to the Lynx for Rashanda McCants.

Lynx get the better end of this deal. Richardson purged the Tulsa franchise of all the Shock players that came with the Detroit franchise. Getting little of nothing in some of the trades he's pulled. Time will tell what his plan was, if he really had one.

http://www.wnba.com/lynx/news/rashanda_mccants_sent_to_tulsa_2010_07_26.html

McCants joins some other former UNC players & the Lynx get another TN product who Coach Reeve coached in Detroit. She was the #4 pick from the '08 draft; kind of the combo guard type with some defensive sense. Should be able to help out Whalen more at the PG spot then the others with Wiggins out. Thinking down the road this move make Martinez the Spaniard expendable going into next year. A guard platoon of Whalen, Wiggins, Wright & Hornbuckle is a nice crew, I like

It had been over for at least a half hour when I posted. Maybe closer to an hour.

It was a fun game to watch. Some amazing shooting going on. Neither team could miss for a while. Of course poor defense might have contributed to that.

Ahhh this one did hurt & was fun at the same time. Never should have gone to OT of course. We had our best free-throw shooters(Augustus & Whalen) at the line various times to ice it and they got iced. But man it was a fun game to witness. It was playoff like. There was some D played here & there, some tough shorts made, Merc run many of their sets well; some calls that didn't or shouldn't have been called but the arena was live. Watching the replay didn't do the atmosphere justice. Tough to have lost the last 3 gms by total of 7 pts. Gotta learn to finish

Can we call it one more disappointing season, now?

Did I miss something? Is the regular season over

It has been disappointing but .... as a STH I do like what this team has put together and were I see them going.

They had/have high expectations & should. They aspire to be a "championship team" and for some reason many expected that out the gates. Consider :

* This is the teams 3rd coach in 3yrs. All 3 coaches on the staff were w/different teams last year. They've had to come together & get to know the players as well. Unlike the past 2 coaches I'm good with this coach. She puts in work. Work that the previous coaches didn't bother with. Her style is more focused then her predecessors, she's a bit tougher too but it's a good thing I think.

* That means all 11 players were playing for a different head coach, learning a new system on both ends of the floor from the year before. As well as a getting used to new teammates.

*Other then the rookie, the 5 starters +2 other primary rotational player missed all or part of training camp. Every wk from the start of camp, to the time Wiggins went down for good in late June, they had to adjust the starting line-up & rotation as people joined the team.

* They started the first 4 gms of the season w/out 3 starters. Brunson played in gm #5 after 2 practices w/the team; Wiggins missed 6 gms; Augustus missed 9. Once Wiggs & 'Mone joined the team, they were complete for all of 4 full gms & 39:52 mins of a 5th gm before losing Wiggins for the season.

In the mean time the rest of the league has gone on its marry way. In the West 4 of the 6 coaches are 1st yr head coaches. The 2 teams leading the West … the 2 teams that returned the same coaching staffs & most of their core players. They are also the 2 teams that have not been hit hard with injuries let alone lost any key players for the season.

With all the, "Oh Lindsay Whalen is home to lead the team" hype & all the talk of how the team has "all this talent to win a championship now" talk, I can see how people see the record, laugh & say what a joke. Has it been a less than ideal season thus far, no doubt. But as a long time fan I understand the challenges this team has had to face & it sucks. All that shee shee above is not about making excuses; it’s about them having to deal w/challenges & setbacks every time they turn around.

The team has made some strides since the start of the yr when their preseason gms where played with 'training camp fodder' cuz that's all the coach had to work with. This team has lost its last 3 gms by a total of 7 pts. Simple as make some FTs they win all 3.

Anyway, Anosike is not full strength & I think Whalen has been banged up as well. They play on. And YES this fan likes that we have Whay over Renee Montgomery. Giving up that shot at Tina Charles was was the high ticket price. She's been an outstanding rookie post. Monica Wright is coming along, especially on the defensive end. Playing behind Wiggs would have been cool but she's getting her time in now. Augustus shot seems to be coming along but you can see she's not near 100%.

Ah long winded here but I believe in this team
Next year I expect the coach to be back. That alone is key to some stability. No new systems but building off of the previous season. We have everyone signed for next season I believe. I hope & pray we don't have to deal w/any more season ending injuries. We have a core of players who are in or yet to approach their prime. A healthier Augustus, Wiggins & Anosike, Whalen, Brunson, Wright, Houston?, Maiga-Ba for extra vet presence & Hornbuckle. We'll see what kind of draft pick(s) we end up with (we have our pick & CT 1st rnd pick)

Right now they have about a 1/3 of the season left to play in the next 4 wks. There are 4 teams fighting for 3 playoff spots so we’ll see how things go.

I love your passion, Minnyme!

Nevertheless, despite the fact that all of these things that happened this season are really good excuses, and that it indeed was just the first year of a new coaching staff, still it's been disappointing.  I think that it's ok to be disappointed.

Still, if they manage to stumble into the playoffs and show me something there where it counts, I'll change my tune.  I'll be happy to change my tune.

LOL thanks Bruce. You know like any diehard fan of a team, I'm sticking w/my team - thru all the butt ugliness & good times (few as they may be) I do see good things fa head for this team so I don't feel completley empty by being a fan of this team. Hopefully they get over the hump & make the playoffs this season

And if the basketball gods just let us get thru 2011 without any "season ending" injuries & the coach gets to start the 2011 pre-season with a "full" squad, I "know" the 2011 Lynx WILL do big things

Why do we almost always start strong and fade late. At least we won in OT this time.

Does the team lack depth?

The depth took a major hit when Wiggins went down for the year. Hollingsworth has also proven not to be the young prodigy in the middle she was supposed to be. Augustus in not completely back in basketball shape either. Beyond that Anosike and Houston have flat out had disappointing years after their All Star seasons last year.

The last 2 games were close losses with Simone scoring 6 & 8 respectively. They can't win without her at her game

The Lynx are 12-19. They are 7-10 at home.

That's not good.

Correction, 12-20 as they blew a 14 pt lead again last night. I don't know who is the defensive coach, but this team doesn't play much defense

And so the most promising year in Lynx history turns into the most disappointing. Agustus never hit her stride. She was less than a year removed from ACL surgery and surgery for uteran cancer. I expect she will bounce back strong next year. Wiggins proved to be a big loss. Anosike and Houston were just flat out major disappointments. Hollingsworth never flashed any of the huge upside she is supposed to have. Whalen and Brunson were the only positives this year.
