The season has now officially been declared a disappointment!  Here it is:

On the bright side, trading away our second lottery pick to Connecticut looks great as they also missed the playoffs.

We now have 2 of the top 4 picks (and thus two shots at Maya Moore with the lottery).

And the Lynx win the Maya Moore Draft Derby.

Wish some of that luck would rub off on the Wolves.

Was it the Connecticut pick or our own that got Moore? Every time it seems that the Lynx will be good something goes wrong. Maya Moore is supposed to be the best pick coming out since Candace Parker so that should give us a shot

Ours.

The Minnesota Lynx today won the 10th annual WNBA Draft Lottery, held in New York. Minnesota used the combinations from its first round pick - originally slotted second overall - to secure the first overall selection. Along with the first overall choice, the Lynx used the combinations obtained from a 2010 draft-day trade with Connecticut (originally slotted fourth overall) to secure the fourth overall selection. Tulsa, who held the No. 1 draft position coming into today's Draft Lottery, will pick second, followed by Chicago and then the Lynx.

She's considered to be at least in the same league as Diana Taurasi and Candace Parker.

But they won it last year also and traded it away. Until they actually announce they pick her #1 I'll sit back quietly

Actually we didn't. We had the 2nd and 3rd picks last year in a draft that had 1 clear star player and then a bunch of good players after that. We drafted #2 and traded #3 for a pick this year (which ended up being #4).

Also the #1 pick last year was not nearly the prospect that Maya Moore is. Kevin McHale couldn't screw this up.

No we had the #1 and trade it for Whalen so Conn could draft Tina Charles

Oh yeah, you're right.

It still breaks down to having a #1 that is more LeBron James this year vs. Andrea Bargnani last year.

The Lynx have won the lottery at least 3 times, if my memory is correct. I'm counting last year, even though they traded the pick.

Yup.

But again, there has never been a franchise caliber player in the drafts that we won.

Simone Augustus is pretty close. The ACL in 2009 and the uterine cancer in 2010 kind of made us forget how good she is. The second time we traded for #1 during the draft and got Harding who wasn't remotely close to a franchise player. Last year we got #1 and traded away drafting Tina Charles to get Lindsay Whalen back here. Maya Moore is at least as good and probably better than Augustus.

I said in past years that the Wolves need to use the same person to go to the Wolves as the send to the Lynx lottery draw

How did Tina Charles do? Did we, hind sight, make a good trade?

Seimone Augustus was absolutely considered a franchise caliber player and was playing like one until the injury. She was top five in the league as far as I could tell.

We got the 2nd pick in the draft and Whalen for Tina Charles and we threw in some player in deal.

How did Tina Charles do in her rookie season? Did we make a mistake letting her get away?

Charles did very well. Then again getting Whalen and Monica Wright is quite a haul. Maya Moore is supposed to be so good that we should be a contender this year if we get a healthy Augustus back. Here is a good link on Moore.

Did we get Mayo Moore from Connecticuts pick or from our own pick?

Of course, we haven't selected yet. I guess it's a foregone conclusion. Which selection will come as a result of the trade with Connecticut? Fourth?

The Lynx got the first pick with their own pick. They got the 4th over all pick with the pick they got in the Whalen deal. The thought at the time of the deal was that the Lynx would make the playoffs and still have a shot in the lottery with Connecticut's pick. Then Augustus had major surgery for uterine cancer, Wiggins got injured, Houston and Anosike regressed and it was another disastrous year.

Will all of the pieces be in place next season?
