Lynx up 13-6 on Atlanta early and look like a much better team than Atlanta. We need to get it together and bring this kind of game on the road.

I've never seen Whalen play defense as hard as she has this year.

I wonder if she changed her training regimen and/or diet? She looks like she's in the best shape of her career.

Really not a surprise to me. Wright in almost a stealth like fashion has become one hell of a player. I really don't think there is much of a drop off from Augustus to Wright. The only concern I had for tonight was the impact on depth.

Atlanta sure didn't look like a 10-1 team and then they showed the eastern conference standings and it's filled with teams under 500. We'll see how they come off of the west coast swing they are going on.

I wonder if Monica teases Kevin about her having a ring and he doesn't

Facing Atlanta with only one loss without Augustus. Has Augustus game started to slip a little. Moore seems like the clear alpha dog on the team now. Still would be a huge win.

Here's a 1 on 1 video w/Cheryl Reeve on the 4 returning starters that kind of hits on the dynamics of the Big4

It's all about the defense

Notes/audio/video from the Sunday beatdown :

quote:

Highlight of the Game

We are going to cheat here. Instead of doing a play of the game, we will instead break down Augustus' short time on the court. In only 11 minutes and 43 seconds, Augustus finished 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal while shooting 4-for-5 from the field. In fact, she scored eight of the team's first 13 points, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Notes/audio/video from the ATL beatdown :

quote:

"We love being on TV," said Lynx small forward Maya Moore. "We think we are a really fun team to watch, so we're always here and available if anyone wants to watch us, come on. We were rocking it at the Target Center, the fans were awesome as usual."

This is another frustrating one and follows their pattern. Lay a beat down on a top team and then struggle against a team missing Katie Douglass and Jessica Davenport. And that's even with holding Catchings to 9 pts.

Fever had come in with a three game winning streak. Not a bad win on the road at all against the defending league champs.

A 3 game winning streak in a crappy conference and with all but one of their core players out with injuries. They made too much work out of it.

Well my friend Indy isn't a bad team. I still expect them to make the play-offs. They buy into their system & are generally one of the top defensive teams in the league. Douglas & Catch are great players but getting old. And the rest of the core are the youth of Bri January, S. Zelous, the return of Erin Philips & E. Larkins. All are more of core players then Jess Davenport.

Will say our team does seem to have trouble getting any type of offensive flow when on the road. While I can appreciate when Whay is aggressive and in attack mode (media just eats that up) it also means she's not running the offense. Our PG shouldn't be the one taking the most shots & have few assist. Maya struggled & there were really wasn't much run to get post involved. Need much better spacing and ball movement & find some flow.

I can't be too mad at the bench for such little point production either cuz all they were put out there to buy time for the starters.
Also of note: if the play-by-play is right (have to watch the gm myself) Whay & Monnie took ALL the shots in the 4th qtr. No one else took/made a shot in the 4th qtr (other then Maya getting to the line once). Which plays into my thought … no flow.

Sorry Minnyme. I just expect more out of the Lynx. I think they have been very inconsistent.

Sweens a road win over last years champions is a good thing IMO. I too would like them to look prettier doing it but I will take that win happily.

Any win is a good win, but Indy right now is, at best, a shadow of the team that won the title last year.

They're tied for the 3rd worst record in the league at 4-8 with wins over teams with records of:

5-8
4-8
3-8
3-12

Oh I feel you on all those points. I just have to try and temper my demands on the squad by allowing that a team just won't be firing on all cylinders in every game they play. If they bring effort and play hard I'll take the ugly wins and move on to the next.

too bad we haven't played at ATL yet

"Every time we play Indiana, it's a grind," Wright said. "They're a very disciplined team with a lot of great players. Every single player on the floor is capable of scoring at any time, so they made it difficult for us defensively."

“Our defensive effort was outstanding," Reeve said. "It's carried us. It's not very often that you hold Catchings the way that we did."
Fever coach Lin Dunn added, "We defended well enough, we rebounded well enough, we just didn't knock down the shots we needed to knock down."

Rebekkah Brunson, who defended Catchings most of the game, added 11 points for Minnesota. Maya Moore had nine points.

Lynx with an apparently easy win on the road at Tulsa. Whalen leads in scoring again. Interesting. She still managed 11 assists in the game as well.

After the Lynx handed Atlanta their 2nd loss, they now have 4 loses. They still have 1 more on this west coast swing.

Nice win by the Lynx last night. Lindsay over 20 again. I wonder if she can be Ricky backup PG?

Whalen ..... Warrior. And playing like the league MVP right now.
Love her game.
She makes more room for herself than any other 5-foot-8er that ever played, male or female.
Tough s.o.b.
