I think we will be able to choose from:
Mims
Aiyuk
Shenault
Reagor

Maybe:
Higgins
Jefferson

If the regime is ok with three of them at 22, trade down but don't get cute. Doubt we find what we want at 58.

ESPN Bill Barnwell's trade idea for Pick 22:

WAS gets:
OT Riley Reiff (from MIN)
4-132
4-112
5-151 (from LAC)

LAC gets:
1-22
S Anthony Harris

MIN gets:
2-37
OT Trent Williams (from WSH)
CB Desmond King
2021 fourth-round pick (from LAC)

Do you support it for the Vikings?

(Dustin Baker on Twitter)

Minnesota gets:
starting LT (injury risk though)
starting CB
and a 2nd round pick

I can't believe we'd manage to come away with all that.

If it happened I'd be ecstatic.

I don’t like that at all.

Too much to give up for Williams (Who I would like for less) hasn’t played in a year. Nobody has offered much at all for Williams.
Desmond King actually regressed last year in the slot.

A 1st (22)
Harris
Reiff
2021 4th

Get a little cap room

But wayyy too much IMO

That matches my first impression, seems like we were giving a lot for what we were getting.

YMMV...

I guess I think people tend to over value draft picks vs vet players.
The reality is that a good percentage of those draft picks are going to end up being worse than you expect.
If you have pick 22,25 and end up drafting Elflein, Bradbury, Hughes type players... you haven't really improved your team much.

Moving back from 1st round to 2nd round, unloading Reiff and trading Harris (who I really like but is expensive on a cap strapped team)...

You still have a 1st, 2 2nds and 2 3rds and your team has fewer holes than before.

The risk is Williams/King could bust too... but lesser chance I think than draftees.

Recently, I've been watching 3-tech DT prospects. Texas A&M's Justin Madubuike is very athletic and particularly disruptive on the move via stunts. I like how well he retraces rushes.

When Madubuike stays low and gains leverage, he shows flashes against the run. #Vikings

7th ranked CB by PFF has him much lower than what seems to be the consensus which is probably the #4 CB behind, Okudah, Henderson and Fulton. I like Terrell, but hear he was torched by LSU, but wasn't everybody torched by LSU? Igbinoghene and Jaylon Johnson could be in the picture for a first round pick or they could possibly last until our pick at 58.

Paul Allen says that the Vikings need to hit on "at least 5 or 6 draft picks". In other words, those players need to make significant contributions to the success of the team. That may be asking a lot. He says that absolutely a corner, if not two corners have to be taken in the first round. He says that we have a greater need for a pass rushing DE than a pass rushing 3 tech.

I personally believe that help will also have to come more from second or third year kind of players. I mean, one of those third round draft picks might be parlayed into a fourth and another pick. It's also possible there is a trade up meaning we have fewer picks in the first three rounds.

I'm not so clear on the comparison of the need for DE and 3 tech. Maybe. It seems like we might need both equally.

I think due to OdinBigo being ready to step up that our Need at 3T is much greater than Edge.

I'm OK counting on Odin to start, but behind him and Hunter we are very thin. Definitely need a better 3rd to rotate in. Zettel was signed for dept but hasn't had a sack in 2 years.

It's a need, but IMO less than Guard, CB, WR, Safety, DT, and OT.

OK, I checked on the picks and #112 is from LA, not us, so not as bad as first glance.

I guess other worry is not knowing the value Williams and King will bring. If they are both effective starters all year, yea worth it, but they are both UFA next year, so could be rentals. Being rid of Reiff's contract next year is a plus. I'd like Ant to stick around but I might pull the trigger here but I'd need to know more of the incoming players than I do.

Temple LB Shaun Bradley is a very impressive athlete. #Vikings did a recent 20 minute virtual chat with him. Makes sense to take a depth LB that can help on special teams. 12 picks surely allows that.

I was studying the crop of guard prospects. It looks real bad. The best ones are not a good fit for us. We better get a guard/ center early or else find one somewhere else by trade or free agency. (if there is still someone left half decent)

It feels like we have to go for one of these guys:

I think Watts and Hercules can be that 3T. Holmes gets last chance.

We need a pass rusher. Only one proven guy on DLine right now.

I'd take Gross-Matos at #22.

So many variables right now it's hard to really predict what we should do. You have to make some assumptions.

If we stand pat with Reiff and Ant, I try to find a CB and DE in round 1. A G and WR and DT or S in 2 and 3.

By chance I was looking at film on Gross-Matos this evening. He looks like a stud, but this article says he has a low floor and high ceiling. High risk and reward.

If Fulton is gone by 22 (which I think he will be) the Vikings need to select:

CB AJ Terrell Clemson Tiger

9.4 snaps per target

80.7 PFF coverage grade in 2019

2018-2019 National Champion

1st Team All-ACC 2019

Look at our 2 most recent drafts

Slam dunk prospect = Bradbury

Developmental, risky prospect = O'Neill

So much uncertainty. Dont take one too high unless they are truely elite. Better to take 2 later than 1 early

Draft whoever falls at 22 and somebody will fall. With 25 trade back with the Bengals for 33-65 or a similar situation. We may have to throw pick 132 in or something like that. We could possibly get Ruiz there or somebody about as good as what's likely there at 25. Trading like this might be difficult as other teams might see things the same as I do.

Absolutely. I'm hopeful, but not confident that Bradbury will become quite good.

Old Farts like me remember when the Vikings drafted Randall McDaniel and him dunking a basketball or was it a football in football pads. He was the original extremely athletic guard. I see Wirfs like that.
Great video of Randall from child to the Hall of Fame.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhaeRSlHQNM
This excerpt from the Los Angeles Times.
McClellen can think of two instances in which McDaniel amazed him. He once saw McDaniel pick up a 100-pound weight plate with one hand. And he also saw McDaniel, walking through the recreational gym in full football gear--shoulder pads, helmet and all--stop, pick up a basketball and, from a standing start, jump up and do a 360-degree turn on a slam dunk.

I can see Wirfs being a larger version of Randall if played at guard. Hope the Vikings get him.
