This like meat to me. Good stuff with tough analysis on some of the players we have liked. Reading this makes me think that Jones or Ruiz are truly the only offensive linemen we should select in the first round, assuming the top four OT's are gone, as expected.

https://www.pewterreport.com/ledyards-2020-nfl-draft-top-15-offensive-tackle-rankings/

With Bectem having a positive drug test at the combine he could be in play.

I don't think so, but perhaps the cost to trade up for him will be more affordable.

Laremy Tunsil dropped from #1 to #13 when the gas mask pic was revealed

NFL rules have changed since then.

Still a red flag no matter how you spin it

Yeah it hasn’t seemed to hurt Tunsil’s production.

If it’s Mary Jane I don’t see it affecting his draft status much.

I’d be very happy to be able to draft him.

Honestly I think there is some fire to this Trent Williams smoke.

We can go largely BPA the rest of the way as long as they are CB, WR, Int OLine. 😉

Provided the guy can block, he can fire up a "J" in the huddle for all I care.

Everyone is assuming it's maryjane but sounds more like it was a diluted sample that could be PED's. Doubt bectan at 360lbs already was chugging gallons of water before he stepped on the scale like these lighter guys were doing.

Where did you read/hear that it appears to be diluted PED samples?

Not gonna lie, if Jordan Love is there at 22 I would take him.

Most grades on Love has him as a 2nd or 3rd round value. Taking him at 22 would be very poor draft value.

Love his skill sets, and we desperately need a QB with a little mobility.

Brad I read some great things about the Oregon State QB (Jake Luton) who could be drafted later. The Athletic raves about him (Size, Arm, accuracy, and low int%). Thoughts?

His stats were incredible, but Browning's were even more incredible. From what I've read he just isn't very good despite the stats.

I saw Luton play one time in junior college, and interestingly, it was probably his worst game. Having said that, he did have a solid run up at Oregon State. Wait until you see the guy they have coming in this season from the JUCO ranks (Chance Nolan). That kid is going to be a star. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/3483288/5d890acabed6890c248b3ede

SkorNorth is going to run 36 straight hours of Purple draft talk starting Wednesday 11:00 AM.

Are they going to do even a third of that in review afterwards? I'm getting to the point that I don't care what somebody speculates will happen. I do want to be getting my arms around where things stand afterwards.

Yeah. I might be a bit burned out on all of this.

Are you kidding? With the stay at home orders, they are going beat post draft coverage to death and beyond.

I hope the first three things addressed in the draft are OT, OG, CB. I’d be thrilled if we can fill the needs I see as far away the most needed. Trading for the skins LT would be great and get a top corner and a guard in round 1 or even move back some into round 2 for one. After that fill in with a receiver and defense depth. I hope we avoid receiver in round one unless one really drops to us.

We already have a QB with more than a little mobility. Seems like you think we need a QB with a lot of mobility. Just remember those are the ones who tend to get sacked the most.

Great way to address the first two with one pick would be Wirfs or Jones. We wait until the 3rd on WR, we are very unlikely to get one that will make an impact.

Who would you rather trade for if it was similar compensation? Thuney or Williams

Thuney: LG would be set and we could draft a LT (Jones, Jackson, Cleveland). Younger, no injury concerns. Also have Udoh.

Williams: Finally get the proven LT we need. We could still get Ruiz or a mid rounder for Guard. Injury concerns.

Reiff is gone or takes massive pay cut in both scenarios.

Thuney and IMO a no-brainer. I don't view Tackle as big of a need and we can keep our current options as is. Or Draft a T in a relatively deep draft while IOL is scarce. Or if we view that we've got up and comers on our Roster like Udoh/Collins we can jettison Reiff and go with those options (we've also got a great swing T on the roster as a fall back plan if a young guy struggles). BetI actually view our best path forward as the last option but Dennison/Kubiak would know better about their development.

My hope is this time next week we are talking about the great trade to Washington that sent Rieff to them and a third for Williams, we got Ruiz with the 25th and Gladney, Terrell or Fulton with the 22nd. That right there eases a lot of tension!

I would be happy with that result.

Some will complain about not getting a WR until the late third ... but I would rather ‘fix’ the OL - and take my chances with a couple of mid round WRs than take a splashy early rd WR and continue on with a half-ass OL.

I hear that he has the traits that would make a good guard. Just going by what I hear. Wirfs could be available. Just cost us both our first round picks and might be worth it. I really got this Randall McDaniel 2.0 vibe with him.

That would be nice. Have to get a WR with the 2nd Round pick IMO, then best DL available with the other third.

Same with Jackson – both seem like LT specimens needing some development playing the LT position to get where they should be. And why you have just spent a first rd. pick on them. Throwing them at G just hijacks that path.

Using two first rd picks on one player is a horrible idea for us – we have so many needs.

Cousins has a little more footspeed than a statue but absolutely no presence of mind how to escape the pocket to use it. Plus, its just more opportunity for him to put the ball on the ground. He needs less.

In Dana's scenario, we can still get a WR in the second round.

Agreed that w/o the line the O is going to sputter.

You look at Randle, Theilen, Diggs, Hunter, etc and realize it's not all about picking early. Yeah, probability increases and all that but dang, you need to nail who you pick regardless of the round.

CB
OG with the hope that one is there
WR

T
WR

Then smart athletes in modified BPA.

I've seen sun dials move quicker with the pocket collapsing.

Changing again, but now adding players:

24 WR Aiyuk (else Mims, Reagor, Jefferson with slight trade down for a 5th)
29 CB Fulton or Johnson (Terrell, Gladney in a bit of a trade down for a 4th)
58 OG Cushenberry (C moved to G)

3rd BPA OL, DL
3rd BPA OL, DL
4th BPA CB, WR
4th BPA CB, WR

If Wirfs can play two positions at the same time, I say go for it? Otherwise you are still using two first rd picks to plug one prospect into one abysmally gaping black hole. With several other holes gaping even more by their neglect. Its just not the way I would go.

As far as Jones and Jackson playing G, I don't believe every OL can play every OL position or every scheme. Some players have the traits, flexibility or experience to play multiple positions with equal success but not all. Ruiz can play C/G, Robert Hunt has played both tackle and guard, etc.

I will be very happy if we pick Jones or Jackson or maybe Ruiz with a small trade down or Hunt in the 2-3 rd., whoever ... all are welcome. If we do, I hope we put them in the best place to optimize their ability.

Wirfs versus an OL and a CB or WR? or trading back with a pick and Wirfs versus an OL and a CB or WR and a third rd pick?
