I really don't get why you wanted to argue with me in the first place when I 90% agreed with you. Must I toe the line and be a full fledged homer for Jefferson? I like him, but he's not perfect.

It's like you say something and I'm supposed to go oh yeah you're right and I was wrong. I already agreed with most of your thinking, but you require that I agree with 100% of your thinking. Not going to happen whether you think it's good reasoning or not. You're not listening to my reasoning. You have a problem with me not being 100% thrilled with the pick of Jefferson. I like him, but not blindly. I point out possible areas that he could struggle. If we allow him to play the majority of his snaps from the slot my concerns might not even show up. I will be very happy if he proves my concerns to be completely unfounded. I'm fully on board the Jefferson RotY campaign.

It isn't blindly optimistic. Read back on your posts:

KG: We drafted a slot wr/we have one....I respond Thielen isn't only a slot.
KG: He is too small/slender....I respond he is the same build and speed as Thielen.

Optimistic is if I say he can replace Diggs. I don't recall saying that; in fact I have stated we should draft another WR. He was the best WR available and we picked one of the two CB I liked. Draft Challenge be damned; I don't care who you wanted. They grabbed value at their spot.

I think you grab Fulton and Johnson just in case to double up.

Where do you get this idea that I'm worrying about the draft challenge. It's fun, but I don't even remember my picks.

Too small/slender. False I never said that even once. I specifically said he has good size in multiple posts.

I 100% agree with you that Thielen isn't only a slot and have stated that on multiple occasions. Thielen has been primarily a slot.

Like I said you are creating a straw man that isn't me in any way shape or form. It is kind of driving me crazy you wanting to argue with me when I barely have any disagreement with you.

I am just thrilled we got perhaps the most versatile all-around WR outside of Jeudy in this draft

When I read his "weaknesses" they say he doesn't have great agility and speed...

but 4.45 is legit and seeing him break Clemson ankles defies the agility claim:

As for the Vikes round one.

If we make the trade for Trent Williams this draft thus far makes all the sense in the world

Most/ all of the “Sexy picks” (Kinlaw, Ruggs, CeeDee Lamb) were gone before we picked, so getting a falling Jefferson who many thought would sky rocket after running 4.43 at the combine, as pretty the only knock on him was his supposed lack of long speed.

The kid is supremely more productive then just about all his fellow WR’s in this draft. I’m good the more I look at this pick, and in tandem with Thielen.

Gladney appears an upgrade to Mac Alexander as primarily a nickel corner. I still see a need to either add a starter on the outside at CB, or backup Holton Hill.

But getting more capital trading back was nice as long as Spielman maneuvers up today to fill perhaps another CB, and finally work on this OLine then with the addition of Williams this all makes sense...

I’ll get obvious flak for this, but it’s a fact. Vikings had the best Round 1:

1. Drafted a stud WR they apparently were exploring Trade-Ups for

2. Landed the biggest Trade-Down haul of the night by a good margin

3. Still got their CB at No. 31

4. 3rd most Draft Capital left

That’s what makes the acquisition of Williams key here. I certainly go after Guard the next few rounds.

Although heard a rumor Spielman thinks Elflein is underrated..

I think we take Ezera Cleveland today along with an edge rusher or DT. I would like to get the WR from Colorado that Don T covets as well. And Windfield at safety.

I'm really curious about where we had Riuz. He climbed fast though. I can't say I know the IOL prospects very well this year. I do trust Kubiak a lot and his ability to influence the draft.

The Line needs upgrading - no doubt. A lot will depend on what they think of Samia, Udoh, Collins. Collins has played about every spot on the line. Udoh - some think has the athletic profile to play inside. Trades could still happen - Thuney/Williams. I stole this from another site:

Muti and Jonah Jackson I like a lot. Cleveland Hunt Driscoll and Peart are all tackle prospects that also seem more than capable moving inside. Damian Lewis and John Simpson are the consensus top two guards on the board. That’s eight guys that could potentially start for the Vikings this year, and you likely can get two of them in the third round without moving up.

Right now - we've got a lot of work to do. But again I have confidence in Kubiak/Dennison. I can't wait for Round 2 & 3!!

Packers draft was a bit puzzling. Maybe it's just me, but I see Aaron Rodgers playing quarterback for a few more years. I like Love, but Rodgers is one of the smartest and most accurate quarterbacks in the game. I thought they had a ton of needs they didn't address. Quarterback is not their problem, and hasn't been for over 25 years.

The Packers may have decided that they are closer to moving on from the diva than people realize.

Apparently so. That, or he is going to have a huge chip on his shoulder in 2020 and play his ass off.

Can he get out of his contract and ask for a trade?

Rodgers to the Patriots?

Dead cap hits of 51M this year and 31M next year.

2022 he still has a dead cap hit of 17M and a 39M cap hit overall.

2023 he only has a 3M dead cap hit (but still a 28M salary).

Seems like he might be hard to move...

Then drafting Love is all the more puzzling to me. Rodgers is absolutely unmovable for three years. Year 4 they can only release him for no compensation. They burned a 4th round pick to move up in the first round and take a flier on a 3 year backup QB, who is considered to be a project. This, despite the fact that they are a playoff team that could have legitimately addressed needs with the picks they used up on Love.

The only benefit I can see is the long term investment (it worked for them before) and insurance if Rodgers gets hurt. A first round pick for a backup anywhere is kind of crazy though, these days with the salary cap. You make a great point that it wasn't just a first, but also a third.

If we trade for Williams we could restructure Reiff and move him to G. If not, grab a couple in later rounds. We NEED more CB’s. Hughes has not made it through a full season injury-wise and Hill is one toke away from a season long suspension. We could also use another WR as we were still missing that 3rd guy last year before we traded Diggs so, while he has been replaced, we are still thin at that position IMO.

Justin Jefferson said he can play equally well in slot and on the outside. "I've been playing outside all my life until last year.''

This comment by Jeff Gladney will make #Vikings coach Mike Zimmer feel good. He said of his TCU tenure, "I knew the playbook like the back of my hand.''

CB draftee Jeff Gladney said he's the "perfect fit" for the #Vikings and wants to make Mike Zimmer "proud'' of drafting him.

CB Jeff Gladney thought he was going to get drafted by the #Vikings at No. 22 or 25. When the Vikings traded the No. 25 pick, he said he got a little bit "antsy" but still thought he might be drafted by them.

#Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Jeff Gladney is similar to some CBs he has had but didn't want to offer specific comparisons. When I asked him if Terence Newman is a good comparison, he at least said, "Maybe.''

Mike Zimmer on Packers drafting Jordan Love “I think Rodgers should retire.”

#Vikings No. 31 pick Jeff Gladney will get an estimated four-year, $10.99 million salary, including a $5.55 million signing bonus, and to have a 2020 cap number of $1.99 million. He will have a fifth-year contract option.

(Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

Regarding that last quote, I am wondering how much trading back for Gladney impacted the salary cap for the Vikings.

Justin can claim this all he wants, but he barely played outside at all in 19 and when they put him outside in 18 he very much struggled comparatively.

Right. Kubiak must know that and it seems that he really did want him. Corey Chavous had some good things to say about Jefferson. We'll have to learn more, though. The best thing to like about Jefferson, in my opinion, is that he doesn't back down from the big games and the bright lights. He absolutely played huge down the stretch towards his teams national championship.

Hill is not one toke away from a season long suspension. New CBA took care of that. Sign Kirkpatrick to a cheap deal after the draft. Pick a developmental guy later in the draft and I think we are good with Gladney/Hill/Hughes/Boyd/Kirkpatrick/Developmental guy. Kirkpatrick also a connection to the Vikes DB coach.

I like the idea of OLine/DT and the best of Shinn (S), burner WR in the second and third rounds.

Go get em!

EDIT: Not only good but a big upgrade over last year's CB group.

Re: Rodgers. Don't know if people have noticed, but he's not that good anymore.

Don't get me wrong, still a top 10, but not a real difference maker like he once was. That team last year, got to where they were based on being a full team and their defense.
I think they see decline in his play and within 2 years, could be out for a much younger, cheaper QB
He's had a lot of accuracy issues lately. I think injuries have added up for him.

Man, Rick likes to spend his early picks lately on the outside. Personally, believe we should be spending early resources on the lines, but it is what it is.

Not sure really what to think of Jefferson, personally, believe we could have gotten an equivalent talent much later, but late 1st is always tough, almost everyone has warts at that point.
I think he is being slightly overrated. He played in spread offense with lots of weapons and a great QB.
I wouldn't use his college production as an indicator for how he'll do in the pros.

What worries me most is he not overly big and physical, which is where a guy like Michael Thomas makes up for his lack of speed. Could see him having issues getting open.

Seems most services say he's a high floor, low ceiling guy, which I guess is fine. probably a safe #2 type.

Also his role in this run first offense will be completely differnet than LSU's pass happy scheme.

Rodgers has plenty left if Devante is healthy. They will get another weapon....should have grabbed one already.

Jefferson is a Thielen clone. 4.43, runs good routes, can play slot and outside. Lots of weapons now on Vikes.

Phil, it's not that he doesn't have anything left, it's a matter of whether he's worth the money at this point of his career.
I think it was the home game, he kept us in the game with his terrible accuracy. he was all over the place.
I think they see the writing on the wall with him, and may be better to cut bait soon.

Arlowe I hate the Pack...but who outside of Adams and Rodgers is any good? Their TEs and WRs are horrible outside of Adams.

That GM and Coach better hope WRs and TEs continue to drop.

They have a really good running back, I think. Their defense was better than their offense last year, though. Their defense stuck it to us at the Bank.

Something else to consider about Jefferson is that he just turned 21 in January. I'm sure there are things that an NFL receiver coach and veteran teammates can show him about getting off press coverage on the outside among other things. He is not a finished product and has more levels he can reach IMO.

It may be very revealing as to whom they select in the second round. If they go d-lineman (good possibility) or safety I believe it will be saying something about the chances of the trade.

I would give up our second and a third next year for Thuney.

Oneil/Thuney/Bradbury/Samia or Collins/Udoh. I like that line a lot.

Actually, his second suspension was for PED’s if I remember correctly (I’m getting old so could be wrong). I still believe he is out for a season for another violation not marijuana related. He was also suspended numerous times in college. He is hardly a sure thing to stay on the straight and narrow. I’d spend another high pick on a CB if I was making the call.
