PA hoping the new GM isn't the one making the final call on who to draft if there's disagreement. WTF??? Old white man has a problem.

PA had too much access to Spielman and Zimmer...Poor guy.

our version of Hannity

Hannity and Carlson wrapped in one.

How unintentionally (or intentionally?) racist can a statement get? C'mon PA!!

well … full-disclosure, I made a very similar statement a day or two go … if there’s a dispute in the draft room - is the analytics guy going to have to make a final call for the personnel guys he hired as his experts?

I’m not seeing the racial side of that …. I guess I’m an anaytics racist when it comes to judging college football talent.

Maybe the final decision is better off being cold and calculating instead of intuitive. Who knows. It will take a few drafts to build analytics on the new guy.

This is my take on Analytics.

You can't base everything on just the numbers.

If you do, you will think Kirk Cousins is one of the best QBs in Football and the numbers bear that out.

There is a feel to it. There is more than just the numbers.

Analytics can only get you so far. You do have to read between the lines sometimes.

I think there is a disconnect here between "stats" and "analytics".

Stats (TDs, Comp%, QBR, etc) would say that Kirk is one of the best QBs in football.

Analytics would look at the situations where he excels and where he struggles. Its a much deeper dive than what boxscores tell you. What type of plays or situations does he do well in, when and how does he struggle, stuff like that.

Vastly more in depth yes but at some point, you are still diving off of meaningful data patterns and projecting human behavior ... that's true in business and moreso in sports.

Extrapolating every conceivable variable going all the way back to CBs in the primordial soup. At some point its a gut call.

i guess i don't follow.

Tbc, the only thing I was referring to in your post was the your view of twins fan's interpretation of what PA said. It was a stupid thing say and it was most prob about his ignorance regarding the analytical position of Adofo-Mensah.

The second part was my feeling of the criticism Adofo-Mensah is going to get going forward for being "analytical guy" if we don't win big and soon.

I was commenting on the second part … the short leash KAM will have to start showing results. His starting point is in the middle of a sour taste that has been building for awhile … though no fault of his own … unless your Timz who blames him for inflation and climate change.

Obviously great in theory. Time will tell if it actually makes a difference. Could analytics have helped us avoid someone like Bradbury and instead opt for Elgton Jenkins? Gladney vs. Winfield Jr? Mond vs. Mills? So many recent misses.

I'm not thinking AR to Denver is a done deal - and i'm not sure I care if he stays in GB - but nevertheless this makes sense to me. But of course we'd like to do better than just make the playoffs

The Minnesota Vikings have a great opportunity next season. It looks like Rodgers will go to Denver opening up the team to be the clear front runner to win the North. This is not a time to trade Kirk Cousins. Extend him, improve the OL, and focus the rest of resources on the D

Can we do an extension that makes sense?

Kirk has taken us to the cleaners
..can he agree to something that isn't csp busting? If he can't then he has to go. No conference championships or SB's to your name and you simply don't deserve 30 something million.

I don't hate him. But I'm so OK with trading him.

Looking at this team on paper in Aug "you" thought there's a real chance - at least for those practicing optimism - but it turned out to be a shit show in many areas ... QB not being close to the biggest one. One big name QB made it past the 1st round.

They get what they get .... figure it out from there

It all depends on Adofo-Mensah's vision for the team is. If he thinks he can retool around the existing core, he will need to extend Cousins and lower his cap hit. I know a lot of people don't want to hear that, but if the Vikings expect to contend right away there really aren't any other QB options available to them.

If Adofo-Mensah thinks it's time to start over, then a full blow up including Cousins and Cook. In that case the house needs to be gutted right to the studs.

I think the Defense needs more gutting than the offense. 30th and 29th ranking last two years really point it out.

If KAM uses analytics, it doesn't take a rocket science to figure out what side of the ball needs more help. Especially CB.

Good point. 1st example is the most glaring. Gladney's trouble came out of nowhere(supposedly no red flags) so that one is forgiveable.

Mills looks decent. Mond???

Even though I recognized KC's big pitfalls as a QB, I always defended him as not being "the problem". That all changed last year. He needs to go. He's extremely selfish IMO.

I respect everyone's right to choose for themselves but when your choice impacts the entire org and you choose yourself, I'm done with ya. It didn't take a rocket scientist to understand that he would most likely get Covid at some point. I get that he figured/knew it wouldn't affect him too badly. It was a lock it would take him out for, at least, 1 game. That it was the game that knocked us out of the playoffs was Karma punching the collective Viking fandom in the face.

I also get that Cooke/Smith ect were in the same boat but the drop-off from Cooke to Mattison ect is nothing compared to KC's and Mannion. As soon as he tested positive we were done. Had no chance.

I fear that you're 100% correct. We're no where near being a team that can compete for a title this coming year. If Green Bay falls from grace that's all well and dandy but to keep or extend a QB that isn't our answer in the long term just to get a cheap division title with no chance of advancing in the playoffs is something that Spielman/Zimmer would do - hopefully not our new regime.

How many vaccinated players missed games because of Covid?

Why not just stop conditioning and training in the offseason? Then when you get injured you can just say look at all the players who DID condition and train in the offseason also got hurt. We can minimize poor decisions all day long if you like.

I wouldn't give ANY qb $30-50+ mil unless that QB had won me a Super Bowl. Did you win a Super Bowl on your rookie deal? Yes? Great! Here's your hugenormous contract. F it let's just run victory laps and love life. No? Good luck. Next!

It all depends on Adofo-Mensah's vision for the team is. If he thinks he can retool around the existing core, he will need to extend Cousins and lower his cap hit. I know a lot of people don't want to hear that, but if the Vikings expect to contend right away there really aren't any other QB options available to them.

Apples and Oranges.

Everyone can get Covid. I'm guessing in the range of 300-400 vaccinated players missed games because of Covid. If someone can find the actual number, please post it.

The rules were stupid. It took them(NFL) about 18 weeks to figure that out and now the rules are how it should have been all along.

3 that I can remember that had any importance. Cooke, Smith and Cousins

Cooke - We lost 23-30 to the team in the NFC Championship. Mattison did dine. 13 carries for 41 yards a TD and 3 catches for 29 yards. Offense put up 23 points to a great D and about 400 total yards.

Mannion - we got crushed by 27 and Mannion didn't even crack 200 yards in a must win to get in the playoffs.

Do Cook or Cousins play defense?

We couldn't stop the Rams or Packers.

If you think Cousins would have beat GB that night, then I'm glad you're not making decisions for the Vikings.

Jeff. I'll ask you this.

Would Cousins, Smith or Cook have missed a game with the new revised NFL Covid rules?

Here's the thing though - we hear all the time about doing everything you can to be on the field. Those guys didn't. You might not agree with the rules, and you have the right to choose not to get vaxxed, but bottom line those were the rules. And those guys chose not to do everything they could to be on the field.

I'm fine with that line of thinking as long as it's consistent with how it applies to all injuries. Don't like to hear the same people question toughness if someone doesn't rush back from injury, even if it takes longer than what was originally thought. Not saying that's you, but I have seen it a lot.

Would having Harrison Smith available for the Ravens game have made the difference? Who knows but maybe they make more defensive plays down the stretch?

I heard Cousins isn't going to wear a helmet next season. When asked why he said the decision was a personal one. But hey - look at all those helmet-wearers that also got injured.
