ORIGINAL: Mark Anderson I'm all for purging if it brings in a franchise mobile QB (Murray). Or if there was a can't miss prospect in college. Purging because it is something different makes you the Lions. Offense is in their prime right now in an offense driven league with a new innovative offensive coach. Blow it all up to re-build the defense??? Anyway, we can quit speculating in about 3 weeks. Murray started strong, but sucked the 2nd half of last season. IMO the jury is very out on him. Murray and Burrow were #1 overall picks. Herbert looks good. He was picked #6. Who was the last QB picked outside of the top 6 that turned out? Russell Wilson? Not sure what point you are making for sure... so I'd say that top QBs are chosen in the 1st round more often than not... but does not have to be top 6 pick. Josh Allen Lamar Jackson Dak Prescott Aaron Rodgers Patrick Mahomes Ben Roethlisberger Russel Wilson Tom Brady Derek Carr(?) My point is it's very unlikely to get a top QB drafting outside of the top 10 picks. I was forgetting Mahomes and Allen 10th and 7th respectively. Jackson, Carr and Dak don't impress me much and Wilson, Brady, Rodgers and Ben were a long, long time ago. Very late to respond... Top 6 pick starting QBs: Murray Ryan Darnold Goff Wentz Lawrence Herbert Stafford Tagovailoa Wilson Picking inside the top 6 doesn't seem to me like any better chance of getting an elite QB. It probably says it's just hard in general. However, I would say you pick a QB you believe in whenever you have the chance. If the Vikes have a QB they like in this class... and Carolina offered up the #6... do it. If the Vikes have a path to get Russ Wilson... do it. If KOC believes in Kirk... do that. I also really like taking a shot on Mond... if he is the next Dak/Russ Wilson... you take a huge step forward.
