The year before that, I think they were ranked 27th. So people can rail on Kirk and rail on this offense and say we can’t win with him or we can’t win with this offense. I say that’s total BS. We couldn’t win with the crap defense that we’ve had the last two years. We couldn’t stop the run, at all. Ever. And then in key moments of the games . . . we couldn’t stop any two-minute offense. So, to me, the biggest liability of this team has been defense. All this team has to do is play good team defense, finish in the mid-teens at the end of the season, and they’re playoff bound and they can make some noise.”

For years, it seemed that opposition FG kickers were making 50+ yarders far more than averages against us. Turns out that was a fact.

Similar to it looking like that after we score the opposition drives down the field and scores in greater frequency than the norm. Anyway, we weren't going to do squat in the playoffs, and with the coaches, scheme, and players, it's a total new start.

Impossible to say but I'd lean lazy coaching staff. "Give me the guys that already know what I teach so I don't have to teach it to a new guy even if he is younger, cheaper, and more talented." That's what I see. Throw in a GM that had given up and this is what we got. To be honest I was surprised we didn't sign Terrence Newman and Jimmy Kliensasser.

From a different angle, at least as it pertains to Minnesota signing any of them...

New regimes put their stamp on things. Hence, this season's FA signings and draftees are higher in the pecking order than the vets we had. Add in the holdover starters, and I'm not sure how many roster spots are really even left.

None of those players have any inside track as a 'known quantity', and probably besides some standard evaluation grade they are simply lumped in with the multitudes of other FAs.

Rudolph to the Bucs on a one-year-deal. I couldn't find the amount but league minimum is a pretty good guess. So in 2022 he'll cost the Vikings $2.9 million in dead cap. He'll cost the Giants $2.4 million in dead cap. He'll cost the Bucs about $1 million and they'll actually have a player on the field for their money. Scenarios like this show in great detail the difference between teams that are run smartly and teams that are... for lack of a better word - not run smartly.

Is getting Rudolph really smart?

I am glad the Bucs took the scissors out of our hands.

Rudy is slow, old and only serves one purpose anymore...as a redzone threat because he's tall with good hands.

He can't run.

He goes down too easily.

He's not worth 1 mil anymore

Omg no no no no he isn’t worth even the minimum. I hope that’s not how my post comes off. We’ll have to see if any of that money from Tampa is guaranteed. He might not make it out of camp.

Or in the case of the Spielman Vikings...think they're run smarter than everyone else.

Rudolph probably would have been a poor signing, I just envisioned him (after Smith got his usual injury, one that sidelined him for the SB), catching the game winner for the Vikings' first Super Bowl win.
