The new regime has been impressive, but they would have been even MORE impressive if they had gotten a #2 QB, immediately gotten rid of Mannion, and told Mond he would need to show more to get the #3 spot.

And then either traded Bradbury, or made it clear right away there would be competition for the center spot.

Being new, we should cut them a little slack, but pretty much everyone here knows those positions suck, so a regime that knows what they're doing, it shouldn't take them long to realize that.

A real #2 wouldn't be Sloter Marty plus they needed to see what Mannion and Mond had....same as our center.

I don’t think so. Bradbury Mannion were no secret … its late to adequately address the worst starter and key backup on your roster. It can get done but we may have to pay a premium at this point.

Oh wait a second, anybody will do.

Mond … ok wait to evaluate - as a #3 dev project … if you’re wrong and he’s better than you thought … super. He can compete with your legit #2 or at least give you hope post-cousins.

I don’t know how accurate training camp reports are but they seem to verify Zimmer’s attitude toward Mond. Upping his batting percentage to just below miniscule.

Mannion is 30 years old. There is nothing new to unearth.

And if he had any questions, he could probably just ask Sean McVay who had him in LA for 2 years.

With LA, Kevin was McVay's most cherished trusted assistant.

Now with the Vikings, "Mannion is a stud, you guys are lucky to have him. I wouldn't look at anybody else'.

Kevin is now getting dunked and baptized in the NFL-is-a-business river.

Depending on how this season goes, good or bad, once again OL and QB are looking like first and second options, regardless of draft position, for draft day.

Tight End will be in there too IMHO

We had 4 shots at drafting Malik Willis or several other QBs this year. Were we so confident in Mond that we didn't bother or did we just see Willis and others as not being any good. I hope that doesn't bite us.

It was not a good Class of QBs in this years draft. I heard one pundit state that if Drew Lock were in this years draft he would have easily been the first QB taken. DREW STINKING LOCK

Next year has a much better class.

only team in good shape at backup QB is the 49ers and likely they will not be by week 1.

the rest, season over.

Sure, if their starter goes down for the season - or even an extended period.

But there are plenty of back-ups who can keep a team afloat for a couple games.

NEW: Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins will miss Sunday's preseason game at Las Vegas after testing positive for #COVID19.

* Cool, build up those antibodies Kirk! - don't need you against no stinkin' Raiders in PS1 anyway ...

How much playing time are starter QBs getting now in game 1 with 3 PS games? First series only?

Honestly not a big deal. Missing 5 or 6 practice days in a new system – with our backups [which is not KCs fault] – is a bigger deal.

At the very least, it doesn't help. [I can't let KC off completely, you know that]

I'm just bringing it up. Funny thing is if we had drafted Willis at 12 nobody would have batted an eye over it and many would have been delirious with joy.

We could've had literally any of the QBs in this draft. and most of them will make whoever got them to pine for Christian Ponder, Johnny Manziel, or Paxton Lynch.

Yep, but Willis is the one most wanted. If Kwesi had taken him at 69 instead of taking Asamoah the media would have declared him a genius instead of raking him over the coals for the Lions and Pukers trades.

Just saw that the KC Chefs were going to have the first string playing all the first quarter..

I’d go with that, as well

I’m tired of seeing the first game and second game played by rusty, out of shape, mentally moroned, untested players..

You only get three warmup games.. put some efforts into the first two, then find the bottom 20 in the last one.

Here is how I’d do it..

1st game starters get first quarter..

Work on your playbook..
Get some hits in, throw the ****ing ball deep early and often..
**** the vanilla shit..

Second game they wait untill second quarter, to hold the lead before half, or come back to get it close by halftime, or if it’s close, take the lead at the half..
Then second game, same game as above.. in case you missed that..
they start the third quarter to hold the lead, or get it back..

Then get benched for the rest of the preseason to get ready for the opening beat down of the Fudge Pukers..

After those scenarios , … let the 2-3 and wannabes fight for scraps..

Im trying to remember when Ive read such horrible reviews of a player on here - wow! Good thing our QB1 never misses a game

Until you jinxed him...

Maybe, 'cause the universe is always screwing me that way ... but I can argue this board is manifesting an injury for Cousins big time!

Fully expect Cousins on the cusp of the regular season to suffer a leg/life threatening knee injury tripping over an out of place piece of grass.

Can we argue about the impossibility of Cousins' missing time when he's not out? Thanks.

Not sure why we would argue a tautology.

Cousins is "feeling pretty darn good and is wearing me out" talking about the installs today at practice. He won't make the trip to Las Vegas. By NFL rule, Cousins must isolate at least five days.

- I thought this was an fun couple paragraphs to read ... so ill share

O'Connell, a former NFL backup quarterback, wouldn't tip his hand about who is starting against the Raiders between quarterbacks Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond. He did say they're expected to get a "50-50" split of the reps against the Raiders as they compete for the backup job to Cousins this season.

"I've been that guy before where you're told it's going to be 50-50 and you're looking up at the clock and doing the math in your head," O'Connell said. "Having gone through that experience myself, I'll try to be as aware as possible. But if a guy gets hot, starts feeling maybe he should take one more or a two-minute [drill] or something like that, we'll always adapt. But we'll have plenty of snaps to make it right through these next three games."

Make sure we get a 50/50 balance of suckiness with backup QBs.
