Dean Lowry's never going to put up sexy numbers (although he did post career high 42 pressures, 5.0 sacks in 2021). His job in the Flores defense will be to rock the 4T/5T spot. Absorb bodies. Keep the edge rushers and off-ball LBs clean and stop the run.

He'll do that.

Alexander Mattison got a $2.5M signing bonus and a $1.1M base salary for this year. He gets a $3.3M base in ‘24, with $2.75M fully guaranteed. $50K workout bonuses both years. His ‘23 cap number is $2.4M.

Mattison also gets up to $500K in incentives for rush yards each year of the deal.

The #Vikings agreed to terms with former Packers defensive end Dean Lowry, per source.

A rotational guy who might get you a sack or 2. Finished last year on IR.

Do the analytics on what you might get on an injury risk *IF* get Kwesi hot or something?

He had 5 sacks in 2021. He is only 28.

And none or 0.5 other years. He's a nothing burger.

DE depth consisted of Lynch, Otomewo and throwaways so he's an ok sign. Actually, given our cap woes he is a good sign.

Maybe you thought we'd be buying filets.

No.

Sean Murphy-Bunting is an American football cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League. He was recently signed to the Vikings on March 17, 2023. He played college football at Central Michigan. wikipedia

So you really think Wikipedia scooped all the NFL writers?

I think that you're right - the dude just went a step further than most...it very well could be a hustle....

Lowry long has been one of Green Bay’s more underappreciated performers. Has he ever been a star? No. A game-changer? Rarely. But there’s something to be said about showing up every day and doing your job.

Pro Football Focus has a stat called run stops. Essentially, it measures impact tackles, and it mirrors Green Bay’s win/loss grading system. A tackle on first-and-10 that holds the play to 3 or fewer yards, a tackle on second down that holds the play to less than half the remaining yardage or a tackle on third down that prevents a first down is a run stop/win. In 2022, Lowry had more run stops than Kenny Clark despite playing 63 fewer run-defending snaps.

His average tackle vs. the run came 2.3 yards downfield, best on the unit and 35th out of 78 interior defenders who played at least 200 snaps of run defense.

Lowry missed one game in the first six seasons of his career before going on injured reserve for the final two games of 2022. From 2019 through 2021, he started all 49 games.

He's better than Bullard or Blacklock.
Can't say it's thrilling but you need solid players too... and cheap contract.

You heard it hear 1st.

Flores will get our defense into the 16 to 20(ranking) range.

Wouldn't that and a better offense be nice?! Maybe even get a playoff win ;)

Who the hell is Dean Lowry and why did we just give him $8.5-million over two years?

You can get a Lowry-type the day after the draft for the bare minimum.

Possibly a raw onion could be added.

Lowry can do everything Tomlinson can at a third of the price.

Time to dust off the term ‘nitwit’ and bring it back into the modern lexicon.

Honestly, your schtick has completely lost its edge.

Thats exactly right. We are trying to hit the sweetspot above last year’s team without further handcuffing ourselves financially.

I like the bits and pieces so far, I like the 1-2 year contracts which seem fair to me … we’ll see what Flores brings to the table but atleast he has a few more colors to smash through his playdough mold.

The Shelley, Cook and Zad non-decisions, if they stay that way, are troubling … but still a whole offseason left for retooling.

Don't you know that we could have the top 10 free agents and traded for Jalen Ramsey if we didn't have Cousin's contract on the books?

I'm guessing Shelly and his agent are shopping around for some money.

I think Cook surgery is holding up a trade.

ZAD is a guy Flores wants around(if rumors are true). Brought in Davenport to lighten load(snaps) on him and Hunter.

Gotta be hard to shop a guy that was cut from a very good passing D and looked decent for the worst. How do even try to highlight that?

I think the reasoning is sound. IMO not sure who would trade for an injured high-salaried not-young RB, I expected a ‘take less or gone’ situation like Harry, but however, do something (with trade being best case scenario). I did get sucked in to the Zad wanting out rumor mill which has tainted my expectations … it would be nice to get an actual signal from the team.

I’m just impatient, I want these three addressed in some way so we can move on to the rest of the puzzle.

They don't expect him to miss any time but who knows?

Oli filled in admirably I thought. Glad he's back. Just don't put him at G.

Za's dead cap to cap savings ratio changed significantly in the last day or two. Maybe it was corrected, I don't know, but now his dead cap is quite a bit more and cap savings less.
