I’ will believe its only one year left when I see it. And playing one year or not, KCs contract will strangle this team for 3 more years min.

1 - right, I'll believe it when I see it, too. Seems like a long way off to worry about it <not you, everybody>

2 - I don't know about strangle but I thought '24 & '25 came into play as well

Let the rebuild begin in 2026 then. I hope most Viking fans are more patient than I am.

We have our out. Even if it's a pricey one I'd like to rip off the bandaid and be done with it. I don't want to do this dance anymore.

If Cousins stays Kwesi won't make it past his 4 year deal.

I agree, Cousins will pushing 40 soon. I think 2023 is it. Especially with the W-L record they likely will have next year given their tough schedule.

I think they will be lucky to win 8 games and nobody is going to want Cousins when that happens.

Off the top of my head, 28.5 dead money in 2024 and 18.5 in 2025. If Kc is not extended.

Correct me if I’m wrong … I’m too lazy to check this morning but even half those numbers are bitter gravy on top of what we’ve given Cousins for one playoff win, one playoff loss and one playoff catastrophe.

His run with us is over. Just not sure how long he’ll occupy the QB position and hold our future down at this point. That’s called a stranglehold.

What started the process though? It is a series of bad contracts.

2020 36 million dead cap
2021 25 million dead cap
2022 28 million dead cap
2023 27 million dead cap

It just gets soooo tiring to hear the same people say over and over and over again the same thing everyday how much they want to get rid of Cousins - Lawd! I guess it makes 'em feel better and now they can approach the day 'cause they got it off their chests.

Almost forces us to go with a rook next year but still won't enjoy the bulk of the cap savings due to kicking the can with a mediocre Cousins.

From the Strib a couple of days ago:

Cousins is scheduled to become a free agent after 2023; negotiations between the quarterback and team on a longer deal have so far proved unfruitful. He was set to earn a $20 million roster bonus if he was on the roster by Friday. Language in Cousins' current contract allows the Vikings to convert the roster bonus to a signing bonus, which can hit the salary cap over multiple years instead of all in 2023.

By adding void years for 2026 and 2027 onto the deal, which already had void years for 2024 and 2025, the Vikings can prorate the roster bonus over five years and count only $4 million of it against the 2023 cap.

Converting a large portion of Cousins' deal to a signing bonus still gives the Vikings flexibility, but it means the quarterback would carry a $28.5 million cap number for 2024 if he were to depart after this season. The Vikings, though, could have nearly $100 million in cap space next year, with money from the NFL's new television contracts expected to push the salary cap higher.

I say we bite the bullet and take the hit next year and move on.

Seattle, NE, Denver, Philly, KC, TB, LAR: teams that won the SB in the last 10 years, leaving 25 teams that did not. That's a lot of kicking the can ...

This is the year to trade Cousins, his highest value after an outlier season.

Just like last off-season was the time for the Pack to trade Rodgers, they could have gotten quite a bit for him.

Cousins has so many damn void years and salary that one may as well read it as a contract:
2024 - $10.25
2025 - $10.25
2026 - $4.0
2027 - $4.0

From the minute he signed the 3 year, $84 million first-ever 100% guaranteed contract, it's been nothing but obscene contracts with him.

I hate when the Vikings do first-ever crap like that.

Basically, after 2023 add an average of $7 million each year to the QB position until the next two leap years are complete.

He'd have to lift the NTC or be able to have say where he goes. Which we have little leverage if we don't have the QBOTF on the roster. Looking like we are going to be in no mans land again this season as far as being a serious sb contender.

The singular reason the Vikings finished first in that poll about the franchises is they are loose with contracts.

I responded to your comment fairly, politely, in earnest. I can’t help it if you feel different … neither of us is going to convince the other person otherwise.

No reason for you to be a jackass about that difference. I apologize for insulting your Kirk.

Getting a bit ridiculous. Cousins will be collecting checks from us well into his fiftys. Kwesi must be following the Saints model of non-cap mgmnt

I don't get the one-year $13 million for Marcus 'contract is up in the air' Davenport. He is a spotty player at best. Use Jones and/or Wonnum for the year and apply the net $10 million elsewhere. Have been wondering if it was a signal to Za Smith to try to get leverage.

Details for Jordan Hicks' contract restructure with the #Vikings are finally in.

He gets a $3.25M base salary this year, up to $200K in per-game roster bonuses and a $50K workout bonus.

His base dropped by $1.2M, and per-game bonuses dropped by $300K. Total savings of $1.5M.

He looked slower than Kendricks…bad move
