I think the team’s problems could damn near be summed up with one sentence: Kirk cousins was outplayed by justin fields, at home. What a shame considering how hot Kirk started off and equally shameful allowing fields to have such a successful day by his standards.

In successive weeks we've allowed Jared Goff, Andy Dalton, and Justin Fields have their way with us.

At least Jalen Hurts is doing his shit to everyone, not just us.

That varies by degree.

Hurts. 80.6, 108.7, 123.5 (Wash), 72.8, 89.9

Hurts has been good but a bit overhyped. The Eagles have a VERY good defense. If he plays solid they'll win a lot of games.

Whoa let’s not go full negative. We have plenty to be happy about. Excellent coaching, elite special teams (don’t let one bad punt erase the prior 4 games). Elite pass catchers, a seemingly adequate O-line, and a few defenders that are flashing. z smith and dantzler.

The Philly game was weird. His stats, at least for much of the game, were all-world but at the same time a Div. II QB could have produced the same given our horrid non pass defense.

Hurts carried a couple of defenders into the end zone on one run.

Looking at how this team is playing right now, I feel we are average at best.
We have played and will play some very weak teams, appear to have a very weak division, and got pounded by the one good team we played.
We scraped by a terrible Bears team at home. Our O-line is still getting horribly gashed at times. The pass Rush doesn't seem to be what I expected.
4-1 but who have we really beaten? We looked very good against the Packers. We barely beat a Saints team that was very undermanned. Lions and Bears meh.

I'm still not really sure what the optimism around the Vikings is? The record sure but I'm not seeing it on the field.

We are starting the year as an average team

The optimism is that we can improve with more time in the new systems

We have avoided most of the dumb clock management decisions from last few years which makes me optimistic about our coaches

I am starting to lean towards the D being bad, but will try to give some time

Does any of that optimism make sense

Does every team playing a “shell” defense give up easy passes underneath?

If not, are the Vikings still learning or do they lack the playmakers to tighten it up?

Hyperbole isn't my thing.

Elite is a pretty big word. One that I like to save for things that are truly...elite.

We've had a lot of good ST moments (I said our STs were the story in Game 1 and was upset with our ST coach for being hard on himself afterwards), but we've had our share of bad as well. Missed FGs, blocked FG, fumbled PR, shanked punt.

Cool that the Vikings are the first team to both win in Europe, and come back and win the next week.

23rd in XP percentage.

Combine that with the five categories above, and we average 18th in six common special teams barometers.

League-wide, there has only been 1 kickoff or punt return run back for a TD all year.

Elite: a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society.

So is Miami starting a 3rd string QB that will have a hell of a game against Donatell's defense ?

the vikings had eight meaningful drives yesterday...4 touchdowns, 2 missed field goals, 1 interception, 1 punt....

the first missed fg came at the end of the first half...we ran out of time and attempted the kick on a 3rd down...biggest mistake on that drive; we got the ball with 1:03 minutes left and allowed 21 seconds to elapse between the 2nd and 3rd play of that drive...still we moved the ball 40 yards to try a 53-yard field goal....

after the onside kick and we recovered the ball, we got one 1st down, but then got zero yards on the next three plays and missed a 51-yard field goal....

i thought that we should have fired zimmer very early last season...i think that we should fire donatell during the bye week, or sooner....

save the season...the defense is going to destroy this team...don't make danielle hunter play linebacker....

If we stopped doing what we're doing our defense might not be good but putting Z and Hunter in better positions would alter more drives with pressures and sacks.

Make a change and we can challenge for the conference title.

The Dolphins have signed DL Jaylen Twyman to their practice squad and cut DL Big Kat Bryant from their practice squad.

****

That does not seem like an upgrade. We should get Bryant on our PS

Scrap the 3-4!

We'd have a plethora of DL but would be literally and figuratively light at LB. But overall the 4-3 offers more position fits IMNSHO.

Twyman's like, well I don't know what in the hell Donatell was trying to do. It's like they signed Phillips and suddenly he was the lynchpin to convert to the 3-4.

No valid intel, you're cut.

OMG I see now that you jumped in there. I thought I was replying to Bill. Sorry about that. You don't have an issue with optimism. I should have looked closer at who I was replying to.
