To be clear. I want no part of OBJ even if we have the cash.

That being said. I've read others say "spend it on IOL or D". While I agree that this would help much more, WHO? Name one guy on the market that could make a difference. Suh?

OBJ gets clicks and that's why he's linked to several teams. It would be stupid as hell for us to take a flyer at this point but it sells so they're (the media) is talking about it.

I think OBJ is fine for a year/partial year as long as the offense is good.

He is like a lot of WR's, just add inconsistent offense and they turn into team cancer.

OBJ, Percy Harvin, Moss, Diggs, and TO are few that come to mind right away.

Inconsistent offense, ya say.

If KC has an interest in OBJ and the money, he would be stupid to not sign.

Very good chance of another ring.

My guess is he's more interested in a paycheck than a ring.

Since we average 1 point in the third quarter for the season (remarkably consistent) any cancerous WR breakdown is likely to occur then.

Or OBJ does NOT become a cancer (just like Moss wasn't), and gives 3rd quarter scoring a nice boost, or assists in it's improving.

On thing for sure, if we did sign OBJ, he'd be very well vetted:

There are plenty of other connections that make it an intriguing possible fit. Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell was just with Beckham on the Super Bowl-winning Rams last year. O'Connell knows what Beckham can bring to an offense, and Beckham knows what O'Connell is like as an offensive coach.

Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was also with Beckham in Cleveland for a few years. Perhaps most importantly, the Vikings have a bunch of LSU connections in their locker room. Patrick Peterson starred at LSU right before Beckham got there in 2011. Danielle Hunter played with Beckham for two years. And Justin Jefferson, a more recent LSU product, has been super close with Beckham for years now, saying he's like an older brother to him.

Among the biggest differences this year:
+33 point differential in last 4 minutes of both halves, best in the NFL and way better than last year.
Only 185 penalty yards, fewest in the league.
7th in the NFL in 3rd down rate.
Turnover margin is second best.
Other than one game by Harrison Smith with a concussion, no players have missed a start.

8 months removed from an acl he's seeking for a team to pay him while he enjoys the hot tub. Not many athletes (other than AD) can recover from that in less than 12 months and most (if not all) aren't right for 16-24 months. Esp at his age. he's no spring chicken.

It has become an 8-9 month injury; the 16-24 months out for ACL was 10 years ago. Example: The Ravens had 3 RBs out for ACL last fall and all three are back now.

OBJ has been injury prone and that is an issue; but you don't have to throw guaranteed money at him.

7th is opponent third down conversion percentage (35%). We are 25th in opponent fourth down conversion percentage (58%), but that's largely from the Lions going 4/6. Since then the Saints and Bears are each 1/1, so there should be concern.

Tied with two other teams for turnover margin. What has helped that is being tied for third with 0.2 fumbles per game. If Cousins was his normal self our interception rate would be cut in half. His three picks v Philly still impact his stats a lot, and of course help bolster Philly's clear top ranking.

Noticed we are 31st in opposition red zone TD percentage with a whopping 80% (last year was 56%).

I do think that the Vikes would be better served to get Mike Gesicki or Noah Fant...than OBJ.

I don't think they can create enough room for Gesicki...2022 salary is 10 million; Fant is still on rookie contract 2.2 million

The 49rs trade a 2023 second, third, and fourth round pick, and a 2024 fifth round pick, for Christian McCaffrey.

Don't think I would ever draft a RB before the 3rd round and I doubt I would ever give one a second contract.

Doesn't ever seem to work out or matter all that much in the "new NFL"

Would rather hope I draft a shutdown corner or a dominant OL,DL, WR in the early rounds.

It saves wear and tear on Deebo, gives them a great shot at winning the division.

It never has worked?
Cook, AP----just 2 examples of it working.

I’m with you….I’d bet they never get 34 games out of him.

$12mm/yr, each year through 2025….

I think Cook is a really bad example of it working.

AD was a generational talent. But I would have traded him after his 2000 td season.

I would have traded AD the day after the switch allegations, he would have brought an enormous amount at the time.

I would have fired Zimmer the day after the Philly playoff slaughter.

Maybe I am a bit rash, but Donatell would be on a short leash right now.

You never trade a player that is capable of scoring 2000 TDs in a season...

Cook?

I can think of a lot better ways to allocate 12M (and rising the next 3 years).

True but the original post was about spending higher than a third round pick.

Big 24 hrs here. If the guys stay out of trouble tonight and early AM, we should be home free on a bye week disaster.

Just read Kene has 0 carries thru 6 games.

Reagor had at least one on that shuffle play for a TD.

I'm no big Kene fan thinking he can be an every down RB but speed kills and KOC needs to get him on the field. Seems plain dumb not to use the guy.

Agree on all, Bill. I don't think much of Kene as a 1 or even a 2 but I'd try to get him a few touches a game.

I think his best play so far this year has been on kick off coverage. Hopefully he snaps off an opportune return or 2 soon.
