ORIGINAL: Brad H Joey Gallo now batting .172. One hit in his past 15 at-bats with 10 strikeouts. I get that you think we traded Arraez for Gallo. But you're a popcorn eating emoji away from turning into Phil with this one... Nope He's a guy most of us questioned why we signed him, only one person here was really excited about it, and no one wants him on the team anymore. He also, in no way, replaced Arraez on the roster. So I don't think this particular bait is as effective as you think it is. "Oh no, the guy we don't even want isn't playing well..." Joey Gallo is not worth the time and angst that is being spent on him. He was NOT signed to replace Arraez. He was NOT signed to be the heart of the offense. He was signed as a one year stop gap while kids like Wallner, Larnach and Kirilloff transitioned to MLB. The Twins knew Kirilloff would not be ready to start the season at 1B. The Twins knew Larnach was inconsistent and injury prone. The Twins knew Wallner had only a handful of AB in the bigs. Gallo was brought in to be an ugrade to the Jake Cave / Kyle Garlic dynamic duo and has done that. Yes, he has a terribly low average. Yes, he strikes out at a maddening rate. Mixed in with the low average and k's is production. He draws a lot of walks. His OBP is 120 points higher than his average as a result. He does hit for power. Gallo is on pace for close 30 HR this year. He is a very good defensive player (2X gold glove winner). I didn't want another feast or famine hitter either, but that's what we got. I can't rip Gallo for being what he has been for his whole career. Aggravatingly inconsistent as he is, he is not the problem with this offense. The problem is both Correa and Buxton are hitting at a level where there OPS are 100+ points below their career levels. They are supposed to be the heart and soul of the batting order and they are both less productive than Gallo. THAT is the #1 problem with this offense.
