So we traded our 119 for a 5th round pick next year? I am so sick of these trade downs at the time of the trade down, but sometimes I am happy with the haul LOL!

I doubt we made that trade.

We got 134 this year and a 5th round pick next year. I thought I got it edited, but I guess not.

Yep. We are about 12 picks away from another trade down!

A 5th rounder next year = about a 6th rounder this year, this doesn't sound like very good value.

Shelly is 5’8”. A great story last year but he looked good on our bottom defense which means he wasn’t a total sieve.

So if 5'10" is avg CB height how much can 5'8 hinder one if that guy has all-over-you coverage skills? What types of passes can beat that guy but not someone 5'10" - 6'2"? Seems silly to me for that to be such a big focus if you have a guy that has got everything needed for CB skills except 2" of height.

Phil has always dogged Shelley for his height. Not the guys he outplayed who were bigger and more highly touted.

Since he did outlplay / out-durable those other guys, the narrative has shifted to ... he wasn't that good, just not that bad on our bad defense. [which ofcourse doesn't apply to non-starter before injury Booth Cine]

By the way ... if we want to draft the reincarnation of 'he wasn't a total sieve' Shelley:

CB Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, TCU

5*8 178 – 4.41 40yd 1.5 10yd 39" vert

One of the more explosive athletes in the draft.
Twitchy, agile and a voracious competitor in coverage.
Allowed 34.6 percent completion rate when targeted in 2022, per PFF.

There is a genius to this trade down strategy. If you don’t pick a player And keep trading down, you can’t be blamed when a sixth round pick does not pan out. Simple.

The Vikings should have gotten at least a 3rd rounder next year in that trade.

KC's 5th next year is likely near the bottom of the round. And factor in the general idea that you lose a round in a delayed pick and it's nearly a 7th rounder.

I think Kwesi is just phoning in random trade downs from his car.

Perhaps we'll use that 5th rounder next year to trade. I actually expect that we will trade that pick. A 5th round pick, if it is actually the KC 5th round pick is basically a 6th round pick because of how late in the round it will be.

If it was a 1 for 1 swap then sure. The Vikings also got a 4th this year.

I guess their player groupings are comprised of 15-20 players all equally rated.

So... #87 nets #102, #134, a late 2024 pick. Seems to be a wash except for the factor of having to wait a year.

And every target position has another tier that's still full.

Somebody needs to call Kwesi with an Ian Malcom Jurassic Park voice and complain, 'This is a draft right, you are going to pick prospects during the draft right?"

But it seems like if KC was moving up in the 4th, they would need to throw in a 5th or 6th from this year, or a 4th or 5th next year.

Since KC tends to pick towards the bottom, the Vikings should have at least gotten a 4th next year, or even a 3rd if it were a large move up.

I guess the Vikings gained a tiny bit of ammo for their attempted move up next year to get Caleb Williams.

Dummies here don't realize that no CB's were taken from 87 to 102. Complain about the pick if you want, but the trade got us two more picks in the draft so stop with the hyperbole.

I made that exact point.

If CB was the only defensive need that might be significant. Were no other defensive players taken during that stretch at all?
