On this date in 1976: BLOOMINGTON, Minn., Oct. 13 (AP) —The Minnesota Vikings acknowledged today they had been fined and reprimanded by the National Football League for arriving late for their game against Detroit on Sept. 26. “The league has taken appropriate action in connection with our showing up late for the Detroit game,” General Manager Mike Lynn said. The amount of the fine was not announced, but it was believed to be in the vicinity of $5,000. The Vikings arrived 15 minutes before the scheduled time for the opening kickoff, forcing a half‐hour delay in the start of the game at Pontiac, Mich. Vikings officials blamed unexpected heavy traffic for the late arrival. Minnesota won the game, 10‐9. The Vikings denied speculation that they had been reprimanded for allegedly withholding information about an injury to their star quarterback, Fran Tarkenton, during the Detroit game.
