The additions of Akers, Powell and Dobbs, all look to be good additions.

Akers sure is going to be helpful for the rest of the year....

Quessenbury might have been a sneaky good addition as well.

Due to his conditional picks on the trade...
I believe Akers cost the Vikes nothing.... he was a good pickup.

I have no idea why he wasn't given the majority of snaps.

Any RBs out there the Vikings can pick up to replace Akers ?

I guess you could pluck Melvin Gordon off Baltimore's PS.

He hasn't really played the last 2 seasons, but was good for Denver before that:

2020: 986 yards, 4.6 YPC, 9 TDs.
2021: 918 yards, 4.5 YPC, 8 TDs.

But at 30, its very likely his productivity is behind him.

I wouldn't hate it. Although I'd probably prefer a Scottie Graham like pickup. A little younger at the very least.

I guess we'll be going quite a ways down the list of prospects to find our rookie QB next draft. I hope our scouts are up to the task.

We just need to find a Kwesi type to trade with:

The Vikings traded the 12th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft within the division on Thursday night. Minnesota sent the selection to the Detroit Lions, along with the 46th overall pick in the second round, in exchange for the 32nd, 34th and 66th overall selections this year.

Commodity trader turned NFL GM types are hard to come by.

zygi wilf has kwesi handling his portfolio of pork-belly futures as part of his contract....

My guess is he has little to no juice left, or he'd be on someone's roster. No position ages faster than RB.

dobbs threw several passes on sunday that cousins would never throw - window too tight...some were caught, but a few were not - passes that were right on the money, but the receiver couldn't hold on to the ball for whatever reason....

he can throw on the run better than cousins...and he's willing to take tight-window risks that o'connell has been trying to get cousins to take....

People remember the Giants game and rightfully so but I saw the opposite of what you were seeing. You don't have eight 4th quarter comebacks playing it safe.

Anyway, Dobbs gives us the running option and helps us in a way Cousins couldn't.

The only thing I can think of is that Roy and Tonga are starting to contribute and we are rolling with the young guys.

Time blurred, and before he knew it, he was on the field, shrugging off tacklers, escaping pockets and listening to Kevin O’Connell map out plays in his ear. Through the crackling microphones, O’Connell described how Dobbs needed to drop back, where the primary reads were going to be, which routes would be happening on the left and which routes receivers would be running on the right. In fact, Dobbs said, the coach was using language that Dobbs had become accustomed to in previous systems to translate into what was necessary Sunday.

This is huge. I can't imagine having a better coach to guide an emergency QB through a game. Zimmer would be like "I don't know, just hand off a lot. Do some QB stuff and don't bother me"

They literally did this for each play and not once do I remember feeling panic that the clock was going to run out.

Says a ton...

Now that I think of it I was never thinking "HURRY UP!" because it seemed like they were moving with pace. Very nice to see.

Right?

And not one wasted time out or penalty for procedure.

Yesterday you mentioned the term "stray voltage" re Cousins. It's so spot on but can't define it. Lost energy, a staleness... I don't know. Regardless, the team had a jolt of energy with Dobbs.

Not just the team but the fans too ... it created win euphoria for everybody without being tainted by pro or anti Cousins bickering.

That is so far below my spiritual plane.

Wait, are you saying there is a, gasp, consensus? Those are mighty tall words.

A brief fleeting nanosecond of unsoiled agreement.

Next week, let the soiling begin.

Next week is a freebie/playing with house money. Expectations are low yet we’ll happily take any good results.

What???

If we have JJ and Darrisaw back and Dobbs having a full week of practice, I expect a great game against a team that is also battling for a playoff spot.

We have won 4 in a row because we are a good team. Defense playing at a level we haven't seen since we beat NO in playoffs. OLine jelling. Unsung guys coming through.

I fully expect a raucous crowd expecting and getting a win.

I understand the optimism but I’m not there yet.

We still don’t know what we have with either Hall Dobbs. A long way from it.

Aside from beating some chumps, yes we beat the big bad SF wolf but clearly they are not playing their best.

That’s the playing the devil’s advocate side of it.

I definitely like where we are at compared to our first 4 games. Ingram / Bradbury and the defense, the usual suspects, have elevated their games.

We are in a good place … its very possible our coaches are a big step up from the Card’s Gannon and Petzing who I know absolutely nothing about.

We are trending up, thats for dam sure. Which is fun.

Just not ready to say by how much. I know nobody is predicting greatness etc … but I still think we have a lot more to prove to be considered a good team (which in my book = a legitimate playoff contender.).

I'm not saying we are rolling into PHI, Dallas or SF in the playoffs and winning and going to SB.

I just think we have a young nucleus that is jelling and we can maybe get one win in playoffs and then work for better things next year.

16. Minnesota Vikings (5-4)

Week 9 ranking: 17

Non-QB MVP: RT Brian O'Neill

This is difficult given the Vikings' injury-based roster churn on offense and their weekly personnel shifts on defense. But after spending training camp in the final stages of recovery from an Achilles injury he suffered Jan. 1, O'Neill returned to the lineup in Week 1, has played every offensive snap and leads the NFL in pass block win rate at 94.7% (ESPN/NFL Next Gen Stats). His presence has been especially valuable given injuries that have forced left tackle Christian Darrisaw to miss a pair of games. It's always tough to predict voting for postseason awards among offensive linemen, but O'Neill deserves strong consideration for All-Pro honors. -- Kevin Seifert

Agree in that there were games where Cousins fired it into incredibly tight windows, and with great accuracy. That's not his normal MO.

Weird part is all 3 (SF, Dallas, and Philly) are showing more warts than they did last year. Hurts knee and DB, Dallas DB and Oline, SF injuries all over and Deebo out.

If Defense keeps improving and we figure out a running game.....exactly the reason you never tank and get into the end of the year tourney.

Just improve a little on the run game at the goal line and short yardage to start. Just makes everything easier----

Josh Dobbs will get all the 1st-team reps in practice this week, Kevin O'Connell said, with the idea that he will start vs. Saints.
Jaren Hall is in concussion protocol. O'Connell still not sure on when Nick Mullens (IR) will be ready. Sean Mannion could be Sunday's backup.

Vikings confirmed today that Cam Akers ruptured his left Achilles tendon.
"Cam is pretty bummed out," Kevin O'Connell said.
He tore the right Achilles in 2021.

That’s BS. Injury wasn’t a month long thing let alone longer.

GTF in there Jefferson.
