Seems pretty cool, we can get to like Kirk a little better, maybe we back off from being concerned whether or not he can bring a Super Bowl win ?

Phil Mackey 🎙
@PhilMackey
Finished all 8 episodes of Quarterback on Netflix.

I won't spoil anything specific, but here are some Kirk Cousins observations...

▪️ He played through crazy pain last season and kept slinging it. Rarely threw the offensive line under the bus publicly.

▪️ He is INCREDIBLY studious and diligent about his craft. Everything from film study to body work, he's a true pro. It's obvious why he's been able to "overachieve" at every level of football and become one of the 10-15 best QBs in the world.

▪️ He seems like a great dad and husband. He comes across very likable, affable and charming. Mahomes and Cousins both seem like fun "hangs" -- but in very different ways. Cousins with his son Cooper in the catering section after the Colts win was one of the best parts of the whole series.

▪️As Cousins told his psychologist in one of the episodes: “Sometimes you carry yourself with a doubt mindset … wondering what’s coming around the corner." ... This is something he seems to struggle with -- worrying about what's going to go wrong. Like a constant mild anxiety. Even before the GW FG vs. Colts, he's telling the equipment guy, "It's too far."

▪️ When adversity hits (injuries, game flow, etc.), Patrick Mahomes seems to relish in it. He "hulks up." He'll go forehead to forehead with Maxx Crosby. He's constantly working the sidelines as a vocal leader.

Cousins overcame a lot of adversity last season (and throughout his football career), but he tends to get stuck in his feelings a lot. Kevin O'Connell spent a lot of time trying to pull Cousins into better mindsets. "Hey man, don't get frustrated. Don't get down." Even after big wins, Kirk refers to the games as "stressful," sort of dwelling on what went wrong. Very interesting.

▪️ Overall, just a fascinating peek behind the curtain of life as an NFL quarterback. It highlighted the reasons why Cousins is a very good QB. It also highlighted some of the things that hold him back.

I'm now FULLY fired up for the 2023 NFL and Vikings season 🔥🔥🔥

Doesn't seem smart at all.

Our group is full of fresh young legs having drafted a RB the last 3 years in a row.. We gave the 2nd guy a raise to try and prove he can be a #1. Now we'd take back the guy we let go over $ and get his best? I'm not sure where on the line between motivation for a new contract and self preservation it will fall but I'm not paying 7 million to find out. Not when we're fine.

You moved on. Move on.

After watching ep 4, Mind Games, Im really looking forward to the possibility of seeing a better offense in year 2 of KOC and Kirk than the pretty good one we had (at times) in year 1

Gotta cut down on those 88 QB hits though for sure. Freekin' Kirk took a beatin'

Come on D, step it up!!!

we're already on the hook with $5mm dead cap for cook - how would $7mm more factor into that?....

i think kwesi made mistakes by guaranteeing money to udoh, hicks, ham, mullens...in his world, ham actually got a monster extension this offseason and has money coming for a couple more seasons...and reagor is guaranteed his take this year....

why does kwesi draft so many injury-prone players with prime picks?...he thinks he's getting deals, but the players don't see the field....

I've never Found David to be condescending but he will call people out if they are in error. I have no issue with that and respect his knowledge of sports as I do many of you.

That being said, I do disagree that Cousins can win a Superbowl. Too many things need to go right and at his salary and ability that's very very unlikely.

I'd rather lose this year and take my chances with a top young QB that does not destroy the cap. unfortunately the team and owners don't seem to see the value of losing.
After 50 years I could care less about making the playoffs it's nothing more than a yawn. I know fans can't see this but how many years have we been in the playoffs with basically no shot of winning the SB. Way too many. We often have gotten in as a bad team courtesy. Last years was a great example. 13 wins but realistically we were a poor team with no chance to beat the good teams. We got pounded by a bad Giants team that basically didn't belong either.

David has always been extremely rude and condescending to anyone who doesn't agree with him. This is more evident on the basketball threads than on Football. Cousins is without question our best chance to win it all. There is no value to losing. We didn't exactly get pounded by the Giants, but you are correct about them not being very good.

Jefferson's contract status is more complex than it appears on the surface. He's clearly one of the best, and maybe the very best WR in the NFL right now. He deserves a huge contract and will be a huge asset to the team that has him. Do the Vikings know how to build a championship roster around him or will they be content to watch 60,000+ fans fill up the stadium week after week feeling great about some awesome WR stats and gloss over that we don't go anywhere in the playoffs? We saw it happen with Adrian Peterson. Fans got boners for the rushing record and happily threw their money at the Wilfs and we got a shiny new stadium. I'm undecided to say the least. I want Jefferson, but only if Jefferson isn't considered the 'mission accomplished' moment for the franchise right now. If we have no plans of taking a shot on finding a franchise QB in the draft then I'd rather trade Jefferson to get the ammo needed to draft the QB we feel we can take a shot on. Best case scenario would be signing Jefferson and then finding a way to move up in the draft for a QB. Second best scenario is trading Jefferson and then drafting QB. Best scenario is signing Jefferson and then extending Kirk for three seasons.

I fixed it for you.

The bolded/enlarged is you.

For some reason i can't totally identify, ive always had a prob with, "I fixed it for you."

I'm with you, Its arrogant and condescending.

DL if anyone should know arrogant and condescending it's you. You have so much experience with that. Or it could just be a joke. Isn't it a bit arrogant and condescending of you to think you're omniscient and know the intent of my post?

DL's comment was spot on. I've been guilty of it too but you're the one waving your dumbass banner around bringing attention to it.

If you have an emoticon (in your vast repertoire of three) for drinking one's medicine quietly and then moping off, this would be the perfect time.

Exactly.

I have no problem with people disagreeing, or thinking other people are wrong - or actively arguing/debating. But to actually change the words of another poster is the height of arrogance. That's not arguing, that's an attempt to invalidate another's opinion. You're literally stickering over what someone else thinks with your own opinion. Its not funny. And it runs the risk of misrepresenting other posters to people that aren't following along closely.

Whatever. It's an obvious joke. It is funny to those with any sense of humor.

Why are you guys surprised that a poster who believes lies, would create lies to fit his agenda?

Jesus told him it was ok to redefine the intent of someone else’s words, to fit his world view, and force it like a penis, down your throat and claim it was just “ being straight and honest “….

Worthless ****.

Holy buckets, guys! It was CLEARLY a joke! Why all the piling on?

The whole FIFY is just a lighthearted joke used all around the internet these days. It's really not that serious.

As far as what was switched, I think it's unlikely that we give JJ a huge extension and then Cousins gets one, but not completely out of the question if Cousins has a great year. Is JJ the same without Cousins? Is he shattering records with a young QB? We all know the answer to that. There is no easy answer here. There are so many question marks on the team. You pay JJ, Hock, Darrisaw, and possibly Hunter, but who else? We obviously have to build through the draft, but is it easier to find a good/great quarterback or is it easier to find DL, OL, LB, etc.? There is a lot of work to be done to build a true contender for years to come. Spending the money on Cousins is certainly a risk, but so is spending the draft capital it would take to get a potential QBOTF, because there are still several holes to fill as well as depth roles. And what if the QBOTF struggles? We're back to looking for the next ... Kirk Cousins, to not waste our "big three" in their primes. It's complicated. I get wanting to try something new; but I also get wanting to hold onto someone of Cousins' caliber. My goodness. The days of Ponder, McNabb, Cassel, etc. we would've killed to have someone like Cousins. Now that we have him, it's like fans forget.

Again, I get wanting to move on, but it's fair for people to be hesitant. Let's see a KAM pick actually pan out before we go trusting him with the quarterback position (and all of the other key needs).

Thank you.

Holy Buckets that's a broad, useless generalization with no understanding of the nuances or personalities involved in the 'discussion'.

But thanks for updating us on the internet. And throwing your own arrogant and condescending hat into the ring.

Tom you knew for an absolute fact it was a joke and yet you choose to perpetuate the lie. I thought you were better than that, but you're not.
