Doesn't seem smart at all.

Our group is full of fresh young legs having drafted a RB the last 3 years in a row.. We gave the 2nd guy a raise to try and prove he can be a #1. Now we'd take back the guy we let go over $ and get his best? I'm not sure where on the line between motivation for a new contract and self preservation it will fall but I'm not paying 7 million to find out. Not when we're fine.

That being said, I do disagree that Cousins can win a Superbowl. Too many things need to go right and at his salary and ability that's very very unlikely.

After 50 years I could care less about making the playoffs it's nothing more than a yawn. I know fans can't see this but how many years have we been in the playoffs with basically no shot of winning the SB. Way too many. We often have gotten in as a bad team courtesy. Last years was a great example. 13 wins but realistically we were a poor team with no chance to beat the good teams. We got pounded by a bad Giants team that basically didn't belong either.

Jefferson's contract status is more complex than it appears on the surface. He's clearly one of the best, and maybe the very best WR in the NFL right now. He deserves a huge contract and will be a huge asset to the team that has him. Do the Vikings know how to build a championship roster around him or will they be content to watch 60,000+ fans fill up the stadium week after week feeling great about some awesome WR stats and gloss over that we don't go anywhere in the playoffs? We saw it happen with Adrian Peterson. Fans got boners for the rushing record and happily threw their money at the Wilfs and we got a shiny new stadium. I'm undecided to say the least. I want Jefferson, but only if Jefferson isn't considered the 'mission accomplished' moment for the franchise right now. If we have no plans of taking a shot on finding a franchise QB in the draft then I'd rather trade Jefferson to get the ammo needed to draft the QB we feel we can take a shot on. Best case scenario would be signing Jefferson and then finding a way to move up in the draft for a QB. Second best scenario is trading Jefferson and then drafting QB. Best scenario is signing Jefferson and then extending Kirk for three seasons.

I have no problem with people disagreeing, or thinking other people are wrong - or actively arguing/debating. But to actually change the words of another poster is the height of arrogance. That's not arguing, that's an attempt to invalidate another's opinion. You're literally stickering over what someone else thinks with your own opinion. Its not funny. And it runs the risk of misrepresenting other posters to people that aren't following along closely.

The whole FIFY is just a lighthearted joke used all around the internet these days. It's really not that serious.

As far as what was switched, I think it's unlikely that we give JJ a huge extension and then Cousins gets one, but not completely out of the question if Cousins has a great year. Is JJ the same without Cousins? Is he shattering records with a young QB? We all know the answer to that. There is no easy answer here. There are so many question marks on the team. You pay JJ, Hock, Darrisaw, and possibly Hunter, but who else? We obviously have to build through the draft, but is it easier to find a good/great quarterback or is it easier to find DL, OL, LB, etc.? There is a lot of work to be done to build a true contender for years to come. Spending the money on Cousins is certainly a risk, but so is spending the draft capital it would take to get a potential QBOTF, because there are still several holes to fill as well as depth roles. And what if the QBOTF struggles? We're back to looking for the next ... Kirk Cousins, to not waste our "big three" in their primes. It's complicated. I get wanting to try something new; but I also get wanting to hold onto someone of Cousins' caliber. My goodness. The days of Ponder, McNabb, Cassel, etc. we would've killed to have someone like Cousins. Now that we have him, it's like fans forget.

Again, I get wanting to move on, but it's fair for people to be hesitant. Let's see a KAM pick actually pan out before we go trusting him with the quarterback position (and all of the other key needs).
