I think if the Vikings were going to make a trade, signing, or claim before the first game they'd have done it by now. We might be looking at the opening day roster right now.

if we pick up a free agent after the first game of the season, like risner, we don't have to guarantee his salary - some think that we might sign someone during the 2nd week....

Yeah that's why I just said opening day roster. I don't like that thinking. If we want Risner and really thing he'll be good why not sign him now. Who cares if his contract is guaranteed?

Well tell that to GM’s/ Front offices around the league that regularly use that loop hold.
Kwesi has had some whiffs, I’d feel better if we had the freedom to waive another potential mistake, as would the Wilfs..

Ian what’s your preferred Jersey site. You usually haven’t led me astray. 😂

That damn Alan Page jersey I got was completely jacked up on the sleeves, and it was a authentic Mitchell & Ness?

Hey Kurt & Ian!

What's up my dude..

Hanging in there! Looking forward to a good one!

Looks like the Vikings, along with 31 other teams, don't want Risner and/or don't really think he'll be good and/or DO care that his contract is guaranteed.

Sure you protect yourself in case he sucks, but if you think the guy will help by waiting to sign him he gets behind the learning curve and you take the risk of somebody else signing him. Is it worth that risk I personally don't think so.

Finally, game week is here! What do I expect from our team, not really sure. I believe the offense will continue to ascend, but curious how the run game goes with Mattison and company. We still need to be able to run the ball for the play action game of Cousins to work. It will be fun to see how Addison makes our team faster compared to having Thielen out there. The defense can go nowhere but up and with Flores I feel we it will, with some growing pains of course. Still feel like we need to put some serious points on the board each week.

Miscellaneous thoughts. So tired of the Lion love I could puke! I am certain that Justin Fields will be the best quarterback in the NFC North Just as certain that Jordan Love will make everyone forget Aaron (not!)

Hoping for another fun season with the Purple and Gold. Skol!!!!!

OLBs Coach Mike Smith Taking a Personal Leave of Absence

Smith joined head coach Kevin O’Connell’s staff in 2022, shortly after Mike Pettine was named assistant head coach. Mike has over 30 years of coaching experience, having previously coached for the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets. Under Smith’s tutelage, OLBs Danielle Hunter and Za’Darius Smith had highly productive seasons, combining for 20.5 sacks. Mike was also an influential figure who helped recruit Za’Darius Smith to Minnesota.

Assistant head coach Mike Pettine and defensive assistant Imarjaye Albury will split coaching duties until Mike Smith returns. Pettine is more than qualified for the role, also boasting over 30 years of coaching experience. Most prominently, Pettine was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2014-2015. He also served as defensive coordinator for the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, and the Green Bay Packers....dailynorseman

It's N’Keal Harry - the wideout was signed to the practice squad while interior lineman Alan Ali was released to make room for him, the team announced.

Harry was signed during training camp and played in the first preseason contest before suffering a minor injury. That kept him out of the second game, and some folks thought he may have already clinched a roster spot before knowing about the issue. Because he wasn’t healthy for the final game, the Vikings released him and signed someone who was.

A couple of weeks later, he is back in Minnesota and attempts to get a second chance with the organization. Harry logged two catches for 24 yards in the preseason.

The play that inflamed sports-talk radio debates, about whether Kirk Cousins should have tried Jefferson in double coverage rather than throwing short for T.J. Hockenson on fourth-and-8 against the Giants, is not in the Vikings' 2023 playbook.

"I don't know if that play will ever be in an offense again," offensive coordinator Wes Phillips said.

I just watched the last minutes of the 2022 Vikings vs Bills. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QW6R-ITG04s
So fun. Remembering that game makes me miss Dalvin Cook, but all in all it's for the best that he's gone.

I've watched that probably 5-6 times over the last several months...cook played very well on our last couple of drives...and don't forget that the refs screwed us twice in that clip....

Ingram's quote seems out of the blue but perhaps shows some confidence and maybe backed up by what we can't see. That would be great.

Another 'season' of free agency, the draft, and roster shaping is in the books. Looking to the Bucs, decent defense offers a test for the Vikes offense. Real early season games often favor the defense because the kinks on O haven't been worked out. If the running game is humming, a big if, we should be putting a lot of points on them, and long drives will help our D.

On D, it's a test against a scrub offense. Holding them to less than 20 points would be good (totally shooting from the hip with that).

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said the #Vikings have agreed to terms with T.J. Hockenson on a contract extension.

-- bet the aches and pains suddenly got better ;)

I hate hearing that. I was hoping we would trade him. Or is this prior to trading him?

That's crazy KG - stop worrying about getting sucked back into cap hell and enjoy the ride

I don't even think Rick would have paid him that much.

Correct; Rick gives 30 and 31 year old players those extensions; not a 25 year old.

I think the only way the Vikings get the #1 pick to draft Caleb Williams, is by giving up JJ and 2 1st round picks.

Don't want Caleb. He is overrated.

Risner still hasn't signed (with another); so maybe he is onboard with the plan?

After looking at the Hockenson contract closer it wasn't as egregious as I originally thought. This contract will probably include the 3 best years of Hock's career. That's fine. I don't like extending Hock because I believe it will end up causing us to have to let somebody we need more go.

If the Lions beat the Chefs than they just might beat us out for the division, but I'd consider it a fluke and we would still win the division.
