The reddit summary of the A-Rod/Lore podcast is interesting. 3 parts that most stuck out to me:

1) Taylor was the one who insisted on the 3 year payment plan. (I actually kind of remember this because he wanted to pass on his “knowledge” or something)

2) He was against the Gobert trade

3) He said it was a waste of time trying to get Tim Connelly

Admittedly it’s foolish to only listen to one side in any ‘jilted lover’ scenario. But this is the kind of thing that has always been frustrating about Taylor. He’s very stuck in his ways even though those ways have led to decades of failure.

As long as he’s still owner they will only win in spite of him not because of him.

But that’s not the reason I came here.

What a game. First half was an impressive message. They were locked in. Zero turnovers and a 19 point lead.

You knew Denver would wake up in the second half, but the Wolves did just enough to hold them and maintain the lead most of the way.

Jim Pete said something that I was already thinking. The Wolves are now 9-3 without Towns. When he comes back they will have to be careful on how to reintegrate him. The Wolves are playing excellent team ball right now. Don’t want to upset that.

No this isn’t an anti-Towns rant, though I’ve had my share of those. I think they’ll figure it out and be fine. It will be something to watch though.

We probably will have to make a decision by next trade deadline.

KAT or Naz+NAW (and any resources we get for KAT).

I read a Strib article where Glen says he isn't mad at the guys he's screwing over. Aw that's so big of him.

my q: if you have the funds and know the significantly appreciating value of the investment, why would you miss any deadlines. i’m suspicious of a-rod & lore’s posturing.

Their position is that everything was submitted to the NBA for approval by the deadline, which is supposed to trigger the 90 day extension.

Though it pains me to say it, I'm kind of on Glen's side on this one. Yes he has been a failure as an owner over the years as far as putting a winning product on the court, but he didn't become a billionaire by making bad business decisions.

The value of the franchise rose dramatically during the sale process. If he can use some technical failures of contract obligations as an out to hold on a while longer and sell down the road for a billion dollars more, it's not too surprising.

Its a rock and a hard place situation as to who I'm "rooting" for..

I'm not sure how much I trust ALore to keep the team here long-term, and there is definitely a bit of Shyster to both of them.

With Glen, there is no doubt he loves the Wolves and Minnesota. But he's like 185 years old and his wife and heirs have no interest in running the team. My worry is if he goes, Becky immediately sells to the highest bidder, no matter what their plans for the franchise are.

I just can't imagine the league would allow the Wolves to bolt from this market, especially when they are ripe for expansion, which is more lucrative for them. We'd just have to pin our hopes on that.

Depends on how much of a relocation fee they could charge.

Target Center could kill us.

2nd oldest arena in the NBA (behind MSG) and its impossible to renovate to anything close to current NBA standards.

Vegas, Seattle, KC, Mexico City are all ripe for NBA franchises. I doubt we get 4 expansions.

Good points. Hard to believe it's time for a new arena, but here we are. Time flies. It's now older than the Metrodome was when people deemed that too old. And older than Met stadium when the dome replaced that. And older than the St. Paul Civic Center was when it was demolished and replaced by Xcel.

The last renovation was nice, but I think you're right, that's about as far as they can take it.

The last reno was basically slapping a new coat of paint on it.

It doesn't have the physical size to add all the ammenities that a modern arena needs.

And don't look to Glen to spearhead an initiative for a new arena. You'd think it might make sense for him to push for a new arena and even help finance it since it would make the franchise that much more appealing and valuable to the next buyer (Assuming the ARod/Lore deal is truly dead). But he said in the Reusse interview he's happy with Target Center. Of course.

Garza has been moved to a standard contract. Not surprising, need some insurance going into the playoffs.

And he is a legit offensive force. His per 36 minute points are 29.1. I know it's mostly garbage minutes but holy cow.

Its a nice reward for a guy who has been a really hard worker, with a great attitude for the past 2 seasons.

He's an absolute disaster on defense, but he can definitely score.

We did.

I'm not thrilled about a likely 1st round matchup with Phoenix.

In my opinion, any first round opponent in the West will be dangerous. All potential 9 other teams when healthy and playing well (they pretty much are all in that category) will be capable of winning the first round. Hope the Wolves can find and continue to execute at their highest. Pelicans probably scare me more than Suns.

Also, I don't know sports writers so can't comment on the quality of Sam Quinn's coverage but he wrote this for CBS sports https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/alex-rodriguez-marc-lore-reportedly-wanted-wolves-to-duck-luxury-tax-which-would-have-been-nearly-impossible/

in which he claims Lore and Rodriguez intended to dump ~$30M of payrole going into next year. Guess Taylor may consider it but hopefully if we can have a real playoff run whoever owns it will give this roster another year.

Phoenix game is huge.

Win and we’re no worse than #2. Lose and we’re most likely #3.

The only way to get #1 is to win and have either OKC lose to Memphis or Denver lose to Dallas (who is 100% locked into #5 and is expected to rest everyone).

No matter the 1st round matchup it will be tough. Yes it’s wide open this year but that doesn’t mean easy. 1-10 are all pretty good teams. Just getting 1 or 2 would at least guarantee a play in opponent who will be on less rest, a minor advantage I suppose.

The east is interesting too. While Boston is a clear favorite to be sure, 2-8 is actually pretty comparable to the west. It’s only at 9-10 where there is another drop off, with Chicago and Atlanta sub-.500.

We're going to lose in the 1st round to Phoenix.

Things could not have gone worse for us today.
