ORIGINAL: nfrosty "I'm totally fine with drafting a QB in a later round as a guy to potentially groom, but no way in the 1st." Drafting another QB in the first when you already have a young first round QB is rare. Jimmy Johnson did it when Aikman was still a rookie. He drafted another top rated QB named Steve Walsh. The starting job was won by Aikman, then Johnson traded Walsh for a 1st, second, and third round pick. The advantage was Dallas was able to see which of two top rated rookie QB's was the best and ended up getting their draft pick back for Walsh plus a few extras. Of course no one was better at drafting and trading then Jimmy Johnson as he built the Cowboy's 90's dynasty. Totally different era - 35 years ago! And Walsh may have netted a 1st (#14 overall), 2nd and 3rd, but he cost Dallas the #1 overall pick in 1990. And the only reason he played at all for Dallas was an Aikman injury.
