Hot take: Zebby is better than Joe Ryan. Check back with me September 2026.

IMHO there's a good chance Ryan will not be a Twin by then.

and after last night, I wouldn't be singing Zebby's praises just yet.

I'd be surprised if Ryan is on the move. He's an All Star starter in his prime and under team control. His recent comments don't change that.

I didn't think they'd trade most of the bullpen at the trade deadline, but here we are.

They tried to trade Ryan then too. Just couldn't sucker enough capital out of the Red Sox.

I'm just speculating, but I have a sense this team will move Ryan in the offseason.

They didn't shop Ryan. The Red Sox showed late interest, but wouldn't meet the price.

My guess is that they will first try to ink Ryan to a deal that buys his first couple years of free agency. If they can't, they have a two year window to trade him.

Valuewise, he's more valuable now, he's cheap and under team control for two more years. Now that argument goes both ways...

A reason to keep him is obvious

But he trade value will be highest now....not in a year and a half at the trade deadline. I think if they try to ink him, and they fail, they will trade him much more quickly.

There is no doubt, Ryan's value will never be higher. In a perfect world the Falvey organization would have produced pitching the way we were promised and Ryan's replacement would be waiting in the wings. We all know that didn't work out.

If the Twins objective is to be competitive next year, it will have to be built around the rotation. If the objective is a bigger picture and longer term, then they should trade him and Lopez for that matter. Follow the Billy Bean principle of trading players at peak value.

It's rumored that Baldelli is out after the season and will be replaced by either James Rowson or Derek Shelton.
