Yeah, forgot about Penix.

What makes Phil's QBOTF remarks all the more strange is the timing. A mere 24 hours after JJM is officially relegated to being a backup, Phil labels him as the QBOTF! Benchwarming QBs everywhere, it's time to stand up and proudly crown yourselves!

It could be like a game show:
JJM: I am the QBOTF
Wentz: I am the QBOTF
Brosmer: I am the QBOTF

So contestant, who is the real QBOTF?

Trick question... they ALL are!

Really?
Before he was hurt 2 years ago there was a good chance Darnold was starting instead of him.

Talk about convenient.....the Vikings will be more successful with Murray and JJ with Murray starting this year.

Would you rather not have JJ as backup and Murray not starting?

So remarkably you changed your claim of McCarthy as your "QBOTF" into a bizarre multi-year Vikings QB corps scenario involving Darnold and Murray.

And your accusation veiled as a dumbass question and emoji is a non-starter because Murray was going to start over JJM, rightly so, the moment he signed here.

I've read my posts written since the Murray-to-Minny scenario became a possibility. JJM never entered the equation as being a starter, so stop with your BS. You want to pretend I said something, do the right thing and quote it for once instead of using sly chicken-shit distortions.

The truth is your constant need for Validation: A constant reliance on external praise and attention to maintain a fragile self-esteem.
Bill your narcissism has your self esteem at lower levels the JJM.

Football is a team game yet you constantly point to one player.....so JJM can't be a "QBOTF" similar to what Rodgers or Jordan Love because why again?

Murray can be the QB of now and JJM can still be QBOTF even if you if you once again can't accept it....

Pointing to one player? No, I pointed to you and your take on one player.

Here you go again with football being a team game. It just so happens QB is far and away the preeminent position. As such, Murray will be in the spotlight. And given Murray's injury history, the backup QB should be also, to a degree.

You created a strawman by saying JJM's situation "applied just fine to Love and Rodgers for up to 4 years." and is "similar to what Rodgers or Jordan Love". No, the two situations are not similar, they are very different. And JJM's situation is not equally "just fine".

Even with posters saying your definition of "QBOTF" is way off, you continue to think you have it all figured out.

That's fine. At least this time part of your reply tried to address the topic. You go on believing your strawman and your alternate definitions.

The only poster (not posters) saying it is way off is you.....

Your narcissist fixation on a single subject moved from Kwesi to now JJM. It really shouldn't be that way since he is at best the backup QB now.

I won't use other posters quotes to make that point. Like I said, you go on believing your strawman and alternate definitions.

And I haven't moved from your guy Kwesi. Since most of the player acquisitions and current contracts were under his watch, rest assured there will be more posts about him.

Other people who will be the subject of posts include Teasley (later), KOC, Flores, Murray, team stars, and top draft picks. That is because they are important pieces of the team.

Plenty of 'fixations' for you to track as you continue to fixate who I post about!

Almost all posters moved forward on who is the starting QB and new GM.....

I agree with giving Kyler starter reps, it is the wise decision at the time, see what he has.
But at the same time, I think it's premature to give up on McCarthy.

IMO the best thing will be Preseason reps for McCarthy. He has to show consistency in his reads and throws and learn how to protect himself.
This is year 3 and we need to know by end of year if he is the QBOTF.

Murray was named the starter so why the JJM post? Move on Phil.

You mean backup right?

The QBOTF ship has sailed, clearly.

He needs to demonstrate he can rise to the level of a solid backup at this point, who isn’t constantly injured.

Does not mean he can’t claw his way into a starter equation at some point somewhere but first things first.

He just got passed over for the starting gig by the HC that used massive franchise resources to draft him. (albeit as maybe our third or fourth choice in that draft)

Its time to say goodbye to The Plan and move on.

I hope JJ sticks and develops. I honestly do. But I want him to stay the eff out of the way of progress if he isnt contributing as a player. I’m done with his highly drafted potential.

23 year old? Still QBOTF until traded or cut.......QBOTF doesn't mean starter. It applied just fine to Love and Rodgers for up to 4 years.

We needed 3 QBs in 1998. Odds are we need at least 2 this year. He obviously needs more reps.

Murray was named the starter so why the JJM post? Move on Phil.

JMO but I think there's more to this than it seems. I don't see JJM being here much longer. There's just weird vibes between he and KOC. I have no proof of that. Just a hunch.

That could be very relevant.

Again, no proof, just a hunch but I think KOC just doesn't like JJM or something about his personality. It started when he missed practice for his kids birth and carried out in his Griddy that he was told not to do.

Yes, he was wildly erratic at times but also had some really nice flashes and you can't question his fire. Still, only 10 starts?? His comp % is a whopping .5% lower than Caleb Williams who the media is fawning over. To me, it all points to something about his personality and not potential.

What really seems weird is how KOC didn't pick it up pre-draft (if, in fact, I'm right).

I don't see it as a personality issue. There are things that KOC can't do with the offense if it isn't fixed. 1) JJM has to get his footwork figured out so you he can complete an out route to the right, 2) he has to process faster, and 3) most importantly he has to learn to protect himself better and be less reckless as a starter as we need him not to miss games.

Fact is, since Murray was named the starter 100% of Phil's posts have been about me or his BFF.

Granted, Phil did say "almost" all posters have moved forward. He left himself some leeway.

For sure. Looking forward to coverage of these practices as the first real insight into where our people are at as they get ready for the season.

Small insights but better than getting excited over 7 on 7 passing stats.

They can get so much more work in because they more or less script scenarios. Like when one team wants to work on its Red Zone offense and the other team wants to see its own RZ D they just do it vs maybe never seeing it with the right players in preseason games.

Preseason games are ok for the stadium feel, good for FG kickers, and are mostly to tiebreak back end roster battles. Overall, feel like the mostly roster is set except for:

Claiborne v Scott
Bartholomew v Yurosek
Gerhardt v Jurgens
Elijah Williams v ?
Pace v Adams
Batty v Chambliss

Could be other battles depending on the numbers they keep for each position. But those look like the areas where there is a general surplus. And that's excluding a bunch of other invites/walk-ons/etc.

I've always felt preseason can tell you a little bit from individual 1 on 1 battles.

I'll be watching Demmings for example... and if he is smothering WRs you get some feel for if this guy is really a player or not.

I remember watching Diggs back in the day and thinking this guy is unbelievable at shaking coverage. And then Zim refused to play him until injuries forced him to... and he immediately made an impact.

But team wise it's pretty tough to get a gauge.
And even standouts... if they are playing against other scrubs you have to take it with a grain of salt.

Starting QB's haven't played a lot of pre season snaps under KOC. I'm very interested in what he gives Murray.

Last year KOC gave JJ the first drive for a field goal and that was it. I sure hope he gives Murray more snaps than that. I would guess at least 3 or 4 offensive series depending on how things are going. We can't go into our first game without knowing what we really have like we did last year....

20 years ago starters played three quarters in game 1, two quarters in game two, and one quarter in game three before resting for game four. I think there were situations where the HC kept the starter out there longer until he got things right or played a clean series.

Things have evolved a lot. The current MO is for starters not to play or get a half dozen attempts. Anything more is unusual. Like it or not, the little fraternity of NFL head coaches have a herd mentality/groupthink, but maybe the value just isn't there.

Guessing Murray plays one series or two if the first series is a 3 and out.

I don't think Murray playing more than the norm in a vanilla game a month out will move that needle.

He needs snaps, but meaningful snaps.

Read that Justin Jefferson has never played in a preseason game. That's not tied to what a QB needs, more trivia than anything else.

Not playing starters much at all in the PS started with the Chargers not playing LT at all due to injury concerns. Kind of snowballed from there.

Heard on the radio there was some new statistical data showing that players are less likely to get hurt if they have seen PS action.

Not playing JJM much last PS didn't make any sense. The more further we get into the O'Connell era the less I like him. A WI talk show were playing clips of his 20 minutes of word salad ultimately naming Murray the starter had them rolling.

Turner and Adams look good early.

Murray looked OK. Not a great, but still catchable, pass on 3rd down.

McCarthy's first pass was too high and too late to Jones, who had a step on his man.

Give up a 40-yard screen on 3rd and 23. And then Pace gets beat badly in the EZ for the TD.

Banks is an absolute monster that needs to work on his awareness. He's easily breaking through the line with ease, but isn't diagnosing plays well.
