Props to Darnold, he was great. And those moments you thought the bewildered Darnold face was going to show, he made more big time throws.

In the end we trusted the QB guru O'Connell. We assumed JJ could be a starter with the QB guru. I was ok with letting Darnold walk, delegating my vote to KOC who knows better than any of us.

I always felt that Darnold should have been signed to a 2 or 3 year contract in the first place, since a good year would make him a viable trade candidate at the very least. I don't know if that was ever on the table for both parties.

I'm happy for Darnold, I was always fan of his since his USC days. Bad luck in NY, contracting mono early in his 2nd season, then coming back to what was essentially a 3 win team. Then going to another dysfunctional situation in Carolina where he had to battle the ultra competitive Mayfield for a starting spot.

He was poor vs the Lions last season no doubt. I don't blame him much for the Rams loss since the OLine had no chance. He obviously learned from that, and I didn't see him hold the grenade like he did last season in those pressure spots. Something must have clicked as well, he had thrown 6 terrible INTs vs the Rams in the first 6 or 7 quarters this season, perhaps he had a tell that was tipping off the Rams. In the last 5 quarters he plays lights out.

I wonder how it must feel to be Phil, Daniel or Bill today. You know, having to come in here, bend a knee, and tell me they were 100% wrong about Darnold.

I know there will be a long line of guys coming in here backtracking their statements and minimizing their predictions of Darnold's ultimate demise.

But, but, but...........

He still hasn't won the big one.
They won in spite of him.
He's Trent Dilfer 2.0

I can already hear the excuses. You know who was made a fool yesterday? Kwesi, McCarthy and O'Connell. However, we must not forget, it was most of you people telling them to make the move and move on to the McCarthy era. They didn't act alone.

30-7 since the beginning of last season.

Justin Jefferson had the worst season of his career in 2025. Be careful what you ask for, JJ.

I feel fine! Football wise, I'd like to see a better matchup in the SB but they are top echelon teams this year.

As far as your issue with Darnold, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. We'll see if it does this time. But please, continue with your classless gloating. Maybe you'll get those props you so desperately need.

Bend a knee, Bill. You were wrong. It's really simple. Brad H, you were right.

I took a lot of abuse in the past 12 months. It's time to get my pound of flesh. I expect nothing but graciousness and praise from the other locker room.

Paul Allen in hot water. I was listening on Friday when he said some absurd stuff. He won't be on tomorrow. Suspension or firing oncoming.

PA has been a sanctimonious fake Christian for a long time and his show sucks anyway. He likes to listen to himself talk and wastes entire segments of his show talking in circles without saying anything. Him and Matt Birk together was really terrible talking down to people with their holy roller schtick....Good riddance.

By the way, did anyone see that bullshit call for taunting on Seattle last night? Absolutely one of the worst calls I've ever seen. As someone that has been down on the field for many games, you could literally make that call on every play.

No chance should a ref be making that call in the NFC Championship Game, with all the emotions running as high as could be. That guy should never work an important game again.

Darnold / JJ / Kwesi

First, on Darnold vs JJ:

I tend to never emotionally 100% hitch my wagon to any one player. I outgrew that long ago. Sports is a business. I’ll have opinions on players, but I’ll gladly admit when I’m wrong. I came down a bit on both sides of the QB controversy. Darnold’s last two games last year hit me like it did everyone else…what happened?

Then once that was past here’s where I landed: The end sucked but you can’t discount the rest of Darnold’s season. And there’s a very good chance he’ll be better than McCarthy in 2025. BUT, he will command big money and commitment and that’s not going to work here with JJ waiting in the wings. So even though I knew it might cost us in 2025, I was okay with moving on to JJ and spending the Darnold money elsewhere.

And it ended up costing us in 2025. 2026? 2027? We’ll see. See next section.

Kwesi:

The buck stops with him. While I acknowledged I understood the QB approach in 2025, the team regressed largely (but not entirely) due to QB inconsistency. I said here that I’d be fine if Kwesi was let go the day after the season ended. It happens for far less reason to coaches and GMs around the league as we’ve seen.

That has passed though and he’s still here. So now I say he has zero margin for error. Back to a contender next year or show him the door. And a contender with significant contribution from home run draft picks, and a stable quarterback situation whatever that may look like. I’m still okay with continuing the McCarthy project, it’s possible his time might not be come until 2027, or beyond who knows. But meanwhile, the team can’t have a repeat of this year. There needs to be a solid Plan B for injuries and a willingness to yank McCarthy quickly if he is subpar.

JJ can no longer be in the role of unquestioned #1 QB. He needs to be moved into the ‘you need to show us’ bucket.

Brad was right on Darnold.

I didn't think Darnold would ever be clutch, there are plenty of QBs in the league, that just don't cut it when the games that really count happen, and that was Darnold until yesterday.

Darnold had some games in the regular season where we were still questioning if he really had the it factor, but either the rest of his team would pull through, or Darnold would make a play in the 4th quarter to win the game, after he wasn't so hot for 3 quarters.

That wasn't the case yesterday, props to longtime Vikings' fan Brad H.

I will cheer for Darnold in the Super Bowl.

Seattle is from a Bluer State, while New England winning would give me the feeling of a rekindled faux patriot support that we had in 2001.

Agree. We're in the midst of the uncertainty about what to do when a 1st round QB isn't panning out.

In Ponder's 3rd year he was soon injured, Cassell came in only to help cement his status as a journeyman, and they even brought in Josh Freeman who lasted one game throwing footballs out of the stadium on MNF.

Then the next year they drafted Teddy, and Ponder was effectively done.

Kinda thinking that will be the QB recipe for the upcoming two seasons.

No Sam hate here. Guy is a decent QB playing on a stacked team this year.

My issue was that we had a cash-strapped roster and it was going to cost a lot of money to keep him - and he showed that when we needed him most - he withered and turned into the Darnold we all knew before.

Our roster would not look like it did this year if we had kept him, so there is no fair/reasonable comparison to his performance this year vs last year on MN or this year on SEA. Besides, he's not on the roster and won't be.

I have NO issue with MN moving on from him, and I hope he is successful in SEA. Seems like a good guy.

*shrugs*

Several things can be true at the same time - something some seem to not be able to grasp.

Darnold on this year's SEA team may be very good AND Darnold on this year's MIN team may NOT have been very good.

Sam Darnold 2024 - sacked 48 times in 17 games

San Darnold 2025 - sacked 27 times in 17 games

It'll never matter until we finally get the OLine right. I'll give them a little credit as they finally tried but it flamed out spectacularly. Seattle protected him and has a very good running game to compliment him. He would have never, truly, succeeded in MN in 2025.

I was always 'iffy' on KAM. I was hopeful but he clearly had massive question marks when they hired him. On KOC I was more excited but he also had a lot of questions coming in. After year 1, I was all in on him and thought we hit a home run.

He has lost a lot of faith that I had and this is a make or break year for him. His play calling and stubbornness to change is going to be tested. The last couple of games shows he may have learned a little but will he keep that up for an entire year?

KOC solidified to me he can do it, to me it is Kwesi that is on thin ice.
