About the only thing I can say about the draft with any level of certainty is that Simpson was a MASSIVE reach by LAR and will not be an NFL starter ever.

We have a decent amount of picks left. Let's get a C, WR, DB and depth

After tinkering all night and using copious amounts of 'duck tape, bailing wire, cotter pins and oil' the Hope Bandwagon is rolling, technically anyway. Pretty creaky... wobbly wheels, misfiring... almost as if it's saying "Again?" But it WILL be by so jump aboard!

Seems McVay is not happy about the Simpson pick.

Only grade I saw for Banks was a D from Bleacher Report.

Classic look of a HC and GM not being on the same page

I’m just saying …

taking DT Darrel Jackson in the third would give us a humungous defensive wall (and insurance for Banks). Jackson like Banks plays inside and out. Caleb (when healthy) and Darrell could take turns swinging baby Redmond around at ballcarriers trying the middle.

Draft Kilgore Stukes Haulcy or Clark in 2nd.

Jackson and a c or rb or wr in the third …

Cmon Brzez … regroup … its still possible not to have a terrible draft!

Jackson in the 3rd sounds like a great idea. But it's those damn other needs to consider

I think we need to double dip on the DL. LDR/TID seem more rotational than starting material at this point. Factor in Banks injury history we're still pretty shallow up front.

If we draft Banks in the second round, even in a minor trade up, I'd feel a lot different. Too boom or bust at #18. I don't understand why they didn't trade back? Seemed like a few teams trying to move up.

His highlight reels are really impressive, seems like a really disruptive player. Let's pray he stays healthy.

It's done and if healthy could be an impact player, skol

PS Let's get a NEW strong GM with much less collaboration ASAP!

I still remember when we drafted Williams over Suggs.

Not as sexy but hopefully just as effective. I was thinking an Edge.

My pick dropped to the end of the first.

Sky isn't falling. Banks is an extremely talented player. Nobody likes that he has an injury history but if that's behind him we just got a hellava player.

Trading back and selecting him in the mid twenties would have been ideal. But obviously, nobody was interested in trading up. Looking at whom was still on the board there was nobody worth trading up for.

Well that's my complaint... Eagles DID trade up and the deal they gave Cowboys I would have accepted for the 18th.

And you could have likely gottent Banks even trading down.

It's not just the pick for me... I thought this draft was going to show a smarter approach to the draft and first round didn't impress... seems like more of the same.

Maybe the kill it the rest of the draft.

That's the thing about Kwesi ... outwardly he was projecting as mr. johnny collaborator

until draft decisions, then he was flying solo.

Well now that our in-house Masked Ambulance Chaser has been revealed ... we know where some of Kwesi and Spielman's advice was coming from.

Good Post.

Not to mention, Dallas was probably trying to gouge Philly ... you can't tell me they didn't try the Lions, us and the Panthers before trying the Cowboys.

Philly: We'll offer two fourths.

Brzez: That's okay, we are not sure Caleb Banks the DT from Florida, the only guy we care about ... will still be there at 23. Regardless of what everybody and their mother says. For us, the security of getting him at 18 versus the absolute certainty of getting two 4th rd picks and Caleb at 23 ... its just too big of a risk for us.

Initially I had Zion Young in my draft challenge as our pick (caved last second to Thieneman).

Young didn't get drafted yesterday. Wanted to change it Faulk but saw you had him, so no way was I going to pick him lol.

But I thought Faulk was a real possibility, kept him on my list of players we might draft.

And the end is here............

We drafted athletic freak. without the injury history he would have been drafted before 18. Could we have traded back? who knows? My guess is that other teams may have tried to trade up but they didn't meet the vikings demands. We just don't know. In the end only time will tell if the pick was worth it.

one thing is for certain...only time will tell if the pick war worth it. To decide they ****ed up already is far too premature.

No. Double no.

We voice our opinions in real time. And given the variables, its perfectly acceptable to say they effed it up horribly. Or not.

We are perfectly entitled to do so.

OBVIOUSLY we will see how it turns out.

Saying it is a waste of time because we don't know how he's going to pan out. If his health isn't an issue he may be one of the best picks we've made in the past decade....or he could be a complete bust. Or he could just stay hurt for the next five years and amount to nothing or he could win DROY and become a perrenial all pro.

Saying they ****ed up is at best disingenuous.

It never fails. the Vikings make a pick and within 10 minutes someone is in here poo pooing the pick. Declaring the pick a bust before he even sets foot in Minnesota....

I believe in the wait and see approach.

It's a really tough thing to do, though, to suspend judgment until mid season or later...

This is the reaction right now...ALL of us are scared by the injury history...how can we not be?

Sure was a swing for the fences and it may turn out amazing, but there is a huge IF attached to this pick

In general there is a huge IF attached to every single pick. There are guys that people assume will me monsters and turn out to be disasters (Tony Mandarich anyone?). There are guys that people see as reaches that turn out to be really good....

And guys drafted in the 6th round that turn out to be GOAT...

My point is the rush to judgement is the problem here. We want to "Grade" their draft immediately....but in the end it doesn't matter what grade they get now.

I would have preferred they traded down and added some picks and still got Banks....but there's nothing I can do about it...so throwing a fit in here doesn't make any sense to me.

Now watch us draft McCoy in rd 2

And we thought Kwesi was the one calling the shots on signing injured guys...

I'll echo the sentiment that I hoped we would see a different approach to this draft.

I hoped to see a no nonsense approach, no trying to be cute or trying to be the smartest guy in the room...

Well of course every pick comes with if and hope attached, but some guys just have higher floors...

Maybe it is great that we went for the home run instead of just trying to get on base.

Still not sure which approach I prefer.

But one thing I'll say is that I prefer to pick guys with more on field production.

Banks is a rare human. You just don't find athletes like that, and I get the perspective that when you do, you want them on your team.

BUT, I am kind of a fan of the guy who is just a good ****in football player, someone that has shown what he can do on the field...consistently

I don't care about short arms or not being prototypical size...

I don't really care how they performed in the combine

I want production over projection (in general)

With Banks we are leaning too much on hope, but he is our guy now and I'm rooting for him

Not sure disingenuous is the right word. Since everybody in here (that's not trolling) is expressing their sincere opinion, negative or positive.

You have every right to wait and see ... however, chastising someone for voicing their reaction now is misguided IMO ... its simply what we all do and why we are here.

Imagine coming in here and every post was, 'we'll just wait and see how that turns out.'

Don't think so.

We are so well abused as Viking fans. We'll get over it.

Nobody is throwing a fit.

Yeah every year people chime in about all the picks, either positively or negatively. And every year one or two people will be the Master of the Obvious and state/restate/re-restate it's too early to judge.

I guess an endless series of posts saying "We have to wait and see, let's get together in 2028 to discuss" is your preference?

I am surprised they didn't trade down, too. Did they really not have any alternatives? If not, why didn't they trade up?

So... what sort of situation means no trade up pressure, no trade down?

Based on rumor, the Vikes were also very interested in TE Sadiq, maybe other players. So maybe as long as both were available, they didn't feel any pressure to move up. And the Lions weren't likely to draft DL.

Why no other IDL? Well... if they had Banks on a tier by himself, or last guy on a potentially elite tier, then they wouldn't trade down. Basically, they have decided that the other IDL options weren't significantly better than an experienced "replacement player." So swing for the fences.

But other positions... CB is stacking up in the second round - 8 candidates. And some likely C are near first pick in the third. And S stacks up at the end of the third.

Presumably they are fine with the players likely available in those slots.

p.s. And they might get another pick with the rumored Greenard trade. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2022: he did nothing in six games (Louisville), 2 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble.
2023: he did nothing in twelve games, 1 sack, 1 TFL.
2025: he did nothing in three games, 1 TFL, 0 sacks.

2024: 12 games. Half of his season total of 7 TFL were against Ole Miss. 2.5 of his season total of 4.5 sacks were against Ole Miss (note, do not draft OL from Ole Miss).

As far as solo tackles, he had on average < 1 per game. In each season.

The production and impact is NOT there.

But if you only watched the Ole Miss game over his 4 seasons, your draft strategy would be BPA named Caleb Banks. Oh, except his foot is injured a lot.
