ORIGINAL: Trekgeekscott And the end is here............ We drafted athletic freak. without the injury history he would have been drafted before 18. Could we have traded back? who knows? My guess is that other teams may have tried to trade up but they didn't meet the vikings demands. We just don't know. In the end only time will tell if the pick was worth it. one thing is for certain...only time will tell if the pick war worth it. To decide they ****ed up already is far too premature. It's a really tough thing to do, though, to suspend judgment until mid season or later... This is the reaction right now...ALL of us are scared by the injury history...how can we not be? Sure was a swing for the fences and it may turn out amazing, but there is a huge IF attached to this pick In general there is a huge IF attached to every single pick. There are guys that people assume will me monsters and turn out to be disasters (Tony Mandarich anyone?). There are guys that people see as reaches that turn out to be really good.... And guys drafted in the 6th round that turn out to be GOAT... My point is the rush to judgement is the problem here. We want to "Grade" their draft immediately....but in the end it doesn't matter what grade they get now. I would have preferred they traded down and added some picks and still got Banks....but there's nothing I can do about it...so throwing a fit in here doesn't make any sense to me. I am surprised they didn't trade down, too. Did they really not have any alternatives? If not, why didn't they trade up? So... what sort of situation means no trade up pressure, no trade down? Based on rumor, the Vikes were also very interested in TE Sadiq, maybe other players. So maybe as long as both were available, they didn't feel any pressure to move up. And the Lions weren't likely to draft DL. Why no other IDL? Well... if they had Banks on a tier by himself, or last guy on a potentially elite tier, then they wouldn't trade down. Basically, they have decided that the other IDL options weren't significantly better than an experienced "replacement player." So swing for the fences. But other positions... CB is stacking up in the second round - 8 candidates. And some likely C are near first pick in the third. And S stacks up at the end of the third. Presumably they are fine with the players likely available in those slots. p.s. And they might get another pick with the rumored Greenard trade. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
