ORIGINAL: Bill Johanesen Back to Twins Talk. I think MLB is strange and tied to the Titanic, because rearranging the deck chairs seems to be key. This was the most the Twins have done to help the team in 10 years before the trade deadline to help the team and they spent 8 million more.......last year was the Titanic. LAD trade deadline is always like XMas. LAD are the main reason they might not be playing at least the first month or two w/o a salary cap and better revenue sharing. Always Xmas? Tell me who they got last year. I'll save you the trouble: they acquired catcher Ben Rortvedt and sent catcher Hunter Feduccia to Tampa Bay. And this year none of the contending cowards stepped up to try for Skubal. In a way, yes, that was almost a free gift. Main reason for the owners likely deciding to have a lockout? Sure, because the Dodgers have won the WS the last 25 years. Such imbalance! The fact is it's a convenient cover story for cheap-ass owners, and people like you buy into it. Go do some research as to how little some of these tightwads pump back into their teams. All they have to do is tread water and watch the value of their franchises continue to increase tremendously. It's a great gig if you can get it. You know the LAD TV contract is 340 million a year. MN and Milwaukee are about 25-40 million. The LAD have about 300 million more just in that portion. They aren’t all cheap owners because there isn’t revenue sharing or a salary cap like the NBA and NFL. There won’t be baseball most likely in April 2027 because of it. Typically, you toss around figures but have it all wrong. Basically in a normal year half of their tv money goes to pensions and, once again, other teams via revenue sharing. As I've said before to you, just sit out anything related to finances and numbers so that you don't look like a fool. Google who clears the most $$$ in revenue, sales, and what goes into their pocket. LAD lead all three and clear $200 million. The numbers for the Brewers is at best a 1/2 to a third worse w/o deferrals, or any reason you want to give. You are the one looking foolish. Percentage wise, the Dodgers are, or were at least in 2024/2025 or so, second in percentage of revenue plowed back into players. Looks like you need to do some googling about where the money actually goes. The LAD owners could easily behave like the cheap-o owners and say screw the product, and lock-in enormous profits. Instead, they see that as a losing proposition. The adage it's not how much you make but how you spend it rings true in the case of MLB. The cheap-ass owners could take that cue and incrementally/over the years add better players, which creates more sellouts, etc in an UPWARD cycle instead of relying on revenue sharing handouts they spend on things like stadium upgrades. LA is an attractive destination. It has a diverse population. The team smartly imbeds itself into baseball in countries like Japan. It values the importance of a top farm system. The GM knows when to use prospects rather than play musical chairs with them. The GM knows when to buy low like with that injured KC pitcher you mentioned. Muncy, Will Smith, Pages... they were acquired off the scrapheap or like the 300th player drafted that year. They strive to improve all aspects of the team/business. Yet even with all that, they could easily get eliminated in the first post-season series they play. So stop your whining and distortions. People like you should be demanding owners spend more or sell the team to someone who will.
