Taylor's numbers dropped off a cliff when their qb got hurt. Teams were stacking the box. He's only 27. I'm not advocating we get him or anything. I personally think the cost would be too high financially and draft wise.

Maybe you haven't looked....he has over 300 carries the last 2 years.

AP did it once in his career when he was 23 and 24.

So what? Emmitt had 300 carries plus a lot. I'm not sure the point. Again I'm really not in favor of losing draft capital and finances to get his services.

RB almost always get hurt after a year like that.....AP was one of the few that could handle 300 plus 2 years in a row. McCaffery would always get hurt after a 300+
year.

Saquan Barkley had 345 carries 2 years ago and look at what he has done last year and this year.

Thats a fair point if you think he's going to be hurt soon. If we make a move with the Colts I think I'd rather see us get Nelson.

Might be a tough lift to pull off.

It doesn't mean Taylor can't make it thru this year but he would be one of a very few with over 300 carries 3 years in a row. McCaffery gets a ton of touches as a receiver also so he isn't quite the same.

Emmitt had 1050 carries over 3 years.....yeah that is the most I have seen.

If they were to get him i would hope they'd still split carries with Mason and some occasional Jones touches. I worry more about the Oline depth. Would love a good option there.

Unless Colts pay some of his salary I just don't see it...

What does Emmitt Smith have to do with Marty's non-starter fantasy? Emmitt learned business decisions like avoiding defenders early on and practiced them religiously.

Since we're throwing out names, Earl Campbell - a 1st ballot Hall of Famer with thighs like tree trunks and maybe the most explosive RB ever - rushed for about 350 attempts per year over his first four years. He was never the same after that. Soon after retiring he walked with a cane. His own running style and Bum Phillips ruined him.

Mileage.

I think the argument is pretty clear that we should NOT go after a 27 year old RB with as many carries as Taylor has under his belt!

Agree much more with going after Nelson or another OG or even a center to shore up the OL

to me the key for this offense will be to protect better so Kyler can find his targets...

I can't believe guys aren't getting open...watching GB and seeing Love get 10 minutes to wait for a guy to get open is disgusting to watch...

I feel like we give a little more time for Kyler and he'll be as deadly as Love...

plus better run blocking could be enough to make the Jones/Mason duo excel

Just stay put, don't swing for the fences, make small improvements, and then wonder why this team chokes and comes up short in the playoffs.

Do you think the Eagles would have won the Super Bowl if they hadn't obtained Barkley?

Nelson is in the final year of his contract and becomes an UFA next season. So any trade for him most likely ends up as a rental. He plays LG and were set there long term with Jackson so this might not be a terrible move.

Huber played real well last game. We've got a couple more games to evaluate him before the deadline.

I am being offered a trade in fantasy football, so I was looking at the possibility of another QB as my 3rd QB (we have 1 QB spot, and 1 flex spot that allows for QB), I was looking at Malik Willis, and noticed he threw 2 INTs and fumbled once while playing at home against Cincinnati.

Sure Cincinnati's pass rush is better this year, but I wonder if there is an after effect after playing against Minnesota in Minnesota, where the following you don't see things as clearly, or rush your throws more ?

I wonder how other QBs are doing the week after playing this Vikings' defense ?

I think the threat of Barkley made the entire Eagle's offense better on their Super Bowl run, it wasn't just the OL

Jackson is out for the season..

Mason is still on IR.

Our biggest need before the deadline is offensive line..

Some of us have been asking for offensive linemen as long as we can remember.

Protection and run blocking is what improves offensive execution.

Not running backs, not receiving, it make a journeyman QB look better, because he has more time to make plays, and running backs don’t have to shed tackles in the backfield to get moving.

I would never object to adding a big body to the offensive line..

Mason looks to be ready to come back for the colts.

Nelson is interesting.
If you resign him it's probably with the idea of moving Jackson to RG.
If Jackson could transition to RG... that would be a great set of guards.

If Nelson ends up leaving.
You probably get a 3rd round comp pick.
So there is a decent offset on what you'd have to give up.

Bingo! Might we need depth at RB as well? Sure. I'm not in favor of losing quality draft picks and being financially saddled to do it.

If you can get Pollard for a low pick I'd be good with that.

Sounds like the earliest Jackson would be back was the playoffs.

If we need depth at RB here's someone we could poach from the Bears practice squad. Here's a link to his last years highlights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wsd2UohRX8 Scott always reminded me a little of Latavius Murray.

Absolutely.

Barkley looked absolutely pedestrian the 3 years before joining Philly.

Then he had a career year behind an outstanding O-Line.

Then last year, they lost some of their O-Line and he went back to being very ordinary.

This year he was off to a terrible start before getting hurt.

He owes his 2024 season to his line that year.

I'm against trading for Barkley or Taylor. Too pricey for a rb with mileage. We already have one in Jones. With Mason coming back into the fold I'd rather poach Scott off the Bears PS. If either our top 2 get dinged in the next 2 games will have to revisit the discussion.

Quentin Nelson I'd send a feeler out for. We have a couple games yet before the deadline and we can reevaluate how Huber performs. Early returns looked good.

No sense in giving up valuable draft capital when there are players already in the building that can fill in adequately.

imo, the biggest problem with our running game is murray in shotgun...mason is more of a between the tackles downhill runner, as was scott, who we should have kept...

jones is a quick scat-back who can move around the line after the handoff, and works better as a shotgun rb...there are fewer of those out there....

Ask the Giants HC John Harbaugh about the importance of having an elite RB.

It's complete nonsense that Barkley was pedestrian for 3 years before going to Philly. 1300 yards and 14 TDs is not pedestrian, and he changed the outcome of the playoff game against Minnesota, an elite back can do that. What was pedestrian, was the Giant's passing game, and sometimes their defense.

We still knew Philly was getting an elite back, the concern was injuries.

Barkley has too much mileage, but Jonathan Taylor does not.

Taylor is an elite back, playing with a not so elite defense, and not the best passing game.

What? Barkley's stats for those three years are worse than originally alluded to. YPC in those years... 3.7, 4.4, 3.9

Yes he wasn't pedestrian, he was WORSE than pedestrian. David was correct, Philly's 2024 OL made him and the offense.

As for your previous boy Breece Hall, who you wanted to throw draft picks and big money at, his YPC the past three years... 4.4, 4.2, 3.2

Jones and Mason exceed all those numbers. And they don't cost anything extra in terms of picks and cap.

As for Taylor, his yards show a pattern of dropping off after career highs in carries:

2021 - 332 carries, 5.5 ypc
2022 - 4.5 ypc, a full yard less (and a thousand yards less)

2025 - 323 carries, 4.9 ypc
2026 - 4.0 ypc, basically a full yard less (so far)

Such dropoffs have been typical for RBs for 50 years.

And you are advocating the Perfect Storm:
1. Throw significant draft picks at a RB
2. Throw big cap at a RB
3. Throw these things at a high mileage RB.

That said, yes we do need to address RB in the offseason - or sooner if an under the radar type pops up - as Jones is overachieving while laughing at father time.
