ORIGINAL: Ed_Marotske I watched that NFCCG a few times. Favre took his fair share of late hits. Favre however came out and stated it was just football, and that was after the game. No, maybe we didn't retaliate, but maybe the guys didn't want to win that way? If the Vikings get even one or two of those non-calls it could have changed the outcome of the game...maybe even ONE 15 yard penalty could have changed things. To say that the Saints weren't running a dirty program though is a little disengenuous in my opinion. Thier DC was banned from the NFL and the HC was made to sit out an entire season. Bountygate DID happen...lets not try and say it didn't and it culminated in that NFCCG. Yes, the Vikes had their own chances to win that game....but the Saints were a dirty team and all one has to do is go back and watch the game to see the proof. So tell me how the Saints play 1. Helped them win the game 2. Prevented the Vikings from standing up for themselves That makes 0 sense. They are grown ass men and if they thought someone was dirty they would have done something about it. I haven't heard any players of coaches ever state that as a reason they lost the game For some reason it appeared our team was unaware of what the Saints were doing. I cannot fathom why they would not have retaliated had they realized what was happening. I know it sounds dumb but they simply did not seem to know. They didn't know the Saints had a couple extra bucks riding on it. They of course knew they were trying to knock their QB out of the game, because teams have been doing that for decades, with or without a few extra dollars riding on it. That's football, and there's really nothing 'dirty' about it. If you can knock Michael Jordan down with a clothesline, hit Derek Jeter with a fastball to the noggin, or high check Mike Messier, you do it. It's the money that made it dirty. If they had captured the Saints on the sidelines saying they were going to knock Favre out, sans money pool.... it would have been Lawrence Taylor, Richard Dent, Charles Haley, etc. IOW nothing that hasn't happened on the field many times before. Nonsense Any team with balls eould fight back IF that really happened Was thr team stupid or punks? Not sure why my post is nonsense. I agree with you. In just about every game of football, one team wants it more, is more physical, and in the end kicks the other team's ass. I agree with you, in this game the Saints, like hundreds if not thousands of teams before them, went into it trying to knock the opposing QB out of the game. Maybe there are a couple games where there isn't a single player, or a play where one guy tries to inflict some extra pain and punishment, but those are few and far between. And the Vikings didn't respond to their level. The Vikings simply didn't fight back. The money is the only reason it ended up being a thing. And you're also right, and I agree, that motivation to go to the Super Bowl is much, much larger than a few c notes. As for it being dirty or not, football is inherently a dirty game. Every time guys tackle each other, they try to do so with enough force to knock the ball loose, to inflict pain, to make the guy know he's in a war.
