I would never predict a team going undefeated, but man, UNC (providing Lawson stays healthy) has a great shot.

Sorry man.  Gotta give you crap for this one.

I'll be back on board to join you for college hoops now.  Has my full attention.

Like I said, I would never predict that they could do it, but.....

Anyway, Tyrese Rice has their number.  I think he has averaged over 23ppg over the last 5 games against UNC, and that's including one bad game where he only scored 5.

They're clearly still the team to beat, but I can see a couple more loses.

I still love Pitt though.

Agreed.  I love Pitt too, and I do think Georgetown will be very good down the road.

Duke all depends on their interior play.  Their perimeter group is the best and deepest in the country IMO, especially if Henderson steps up to his potential.  But they need their interior guys to be forces and provide balance.

OK, other college bball freaks (both Petes, I'm talking mainly to you guys), what do you guys think of Singler's pro prospects?

I'm really torn on him.  He comes off as a smoother Dunleavy to me, but I'm just not sure.  Could go either way on him.  Very versatile though.

Also, I'm beginning to be torn on Curry.  Before I thought he had no chance in the pros, but now I'm beginning to think; hey, I underestimated Tayshaun Prince.  And he really reminds me of Tayshaun from the PG position.  Very lanky, but good movement, smart player, good shot, and long arms.

Curry reminds me of Chris Jackson.

Re: Singler, the Dunleavy comparison is valid but I think Singler is better.  He's a little stronger and I think he will continue to get stronger.  I always thought Dunleavy was overrated though, in terms of how good of an nba player he would be.

Singler does everything well, but nothing great, and sometimes that isn't a good thing (for his size) in making the transition to the next level.  If he can handle the additional muscle needed without slowing down, I'd like him towards the end of an nba bench.

I have been trying to warm up to Curry, but I'm not making a lot of progress.  He most certainly has a ton of work to do to become a nba PG.  SG, maybe, but I still think he's overrated.  His defense is not good, and I'm still concerned about his speed and strength.

Gonzaga played well tonight AT Tennessee.  Two times they beat them.  They really needed that win.  I'm wondering how good of a coach Pearl is.  Chism is an absolute freak of an athlete, but he continues to launch horrible shots and doesn't even attempt to play defense outside of the paint.  I really wonder how good this kid could be playing for a more defensive-minded coach.

Edit:  Curry is most certainly not going to get 20+ attempts in the NBA and that is going to be a huge change for him.

Gonzaga has a real team now.  They finally have tremendous athletes.

Good thoughts on Singler.  I think that's mainly where I am right now, not sure.

On Curry, ya, I should clarify again that I'm certainly not all the way in on him at all.  Just that he's making me think a bit.  I definitely don't see all the love that was dished out last night by the NBA crew.  Because the other guy he reminds me of (other than Tayshaun as a PG) is Miles Simon.

UNC goes down to Wake.  I'm sad I missed it.  Seems like it was a great game.

I can't freaking wait for Duke/Georgetown this Saturday.

It was a good game.  They had no answer for Teague, just like the BC game with no answer for Rice.  Lawson kinda' has that Steve Nash attitude toward defense.  He'd rather play soft D and try to help his team outscore you.

Duke should dominate the boards against Georgetown and I haven't been impressed with GTown's man defense.  They have fared well with their zone D, but that compounds their rebounding problems.

Should be a fun game.  Lots of great athletes in that one.

Oklahoma really looked solid against Texas last night.  Texas is kind of melting down lately though.  Their tough schedule may be getting the best of them.  Barnes actually sat James and Mason for nearly the entire first half last night because of poor play early.  Maybe they got the message.

B.Griffin with another solid game and Willie Warren continues to impress me.

Both of those teams will be tough match-ups in March.

I'd mentioned this before on another thread, but does anyone know Teague's draft status?  I see him as a possible stud, but he's not highly ranked on any of the mock drafts.  I know he needs to reduce turnovers, but he's really become a cog in the Wake offense and he's put up some impressive numbers against top competition.

Ya, I saw a good deal of the OU/UT game too, Pete.

Warren impresses me as well.

I think (at least for now) that his defense is a concern and despite shooting lights out beyond the arc, his shot is strange and slow, almost like Shawn Marion.

He didn't get a ton of offers coming out of high school primarily because of his reckless play.  He's improving in that regard but still has a way to go.

He's fun to watch.  I hope he stays in school.

I see where he has now jumped to #14 on the NBADRAFT.net mock draft for 2009.  I think he'll be top 10, and maybe even top 5 by the end of the season.

I would be absolutely shocked if he went top 5.  Or, better put, it would be a huge mistake to take him in the top 5.

That might be a tad optimistic for him, I agree.  But if some thing fall into place (e.g. Jennings decides not to come over), I think he could easily move into the top 10 and approach top 5.  There really aren't that many guards highly rated for '09.

Honestly, I don't see any way that he's even top 10.  He really has to clean up his ball skills to be a nba PG.  Excluding Jennings, I think there are at least three guards that go before him, if he comes out.

I'd still like to see him stay in school especially if (somehow) Aminu were to come back for his soph. season.

You may be right.  I certainly wouldn't bet money on it.  But I wouldn't be surprised if he went top 10, either.

Gah, it was all over the news here this morning since it was UT.

I missed my 3rd "game I shouldn't have missed" in a week.

Some good games last night.  The Gophers amazing comeback AT Wisconsin.

Purdue also had a late comeback to beat NW.

Daniel Hackett held Harden to 4 points in a win for USC.  I think USC has the talent to make a ncaa run.  They're a little inconsistent, but if they can put it together in March, and if Gibson can stay out of foul trouble, they will be tough.

Thabeet sure has a long way to go to become just a good NBA player, IMO.  Pretty uninspiring performance last night against a very small St.Johns lineup.  Too bad Jeff Adrien isn't a couple of inches taller.  That guy is a stud and has a big man's game, but he's only 6-6.

I really expect Terrence Williams to start climbing the draft charts.  He's as versatile as any big guard in the country.  A little work on his shot, and he'd have it all.

LeVance Fields has more than a 4 to 1 assist/turnover ratio.  Pitt was my preseason pick for the championship, but I do think their lack of perimeter shooters will be their downfall.  Big game Saturday at Louisville.

As usual, I agree completely with you Pete.

Thabeet, at least right now, reminds me an awful lot of Adonal Foyle.

Shotblocking and SOME rebounding is about all he's got at the NBA level right now.

A great day for basketball.

Louisville at home against Pitt tonight, Louisville is a 2.5 favorite.  Pitt is due for a loss, but it won't be tonight.
A couple of interesting matchups in this one.  Blair and Samuels should be interesting.  And I expect Young and Clark to be matched up as well.  Terrence Williams is going to be a problem for Pitt, but I don't think Louisville has an answer for Fields.  Both teams rebound very well and have similar bench production.  Pitt takes care of the ball so well and they're extremely physical.  If Pitt can shoot reasonably well from the perimeter, I think they win easily.  They do have Syracuse on Monday, but in this conference you can't look ahead.  Pittsburgh.

Pitino over Dixon.  I was surprised that Pitt did so poorly against the press.  Louisville really took them out of their game.  I do think Dixon was too quick to pull Young and Blair in the first half, both with two fouls.  Right after that, Pitt went over five minutes without scoring.

Clemson at home against Wake Forest, Clemson is a 2 point favorite in this one.  Battle of the undefeated.  I love the way Purnell teaches defense, and he gets the most out of his bench, but I think Wake covers and wins.
Contrast in styles in this game.  Clemson relies heavily on the 3, while Wake takes fewer 3 attempts than anybody in the conference.
Players to watch, Clemson:  Trevor Booker and K.C. Rivers.  Rivers is a big SG, good 3 point shot and a great defender.  He's a senior and I think he has a shot to go in the first round.
Wake Forest:  Teague and Aminu.  Teague's been getting a lot of ink lately but Aminu is one of the top freshmen in the country.   Wake Forest

Wake's defense was outstanding.  Clemson couldn't hit the 3's (5-23) and struggled from the line.  Teague wasn't spectacular but his first step was too much for Clemson.  He spent the majority of the game at the FT line.

Georgetown at Duke, Duke is a 9 point favorite.  I talked about this one earlier.  Georgetown has been an awful rebounding team and their man defense hasn't been that good.  But I see a big game from Summers and Wright.  And it will be interesting to watch Monroe against that Duke D, at Cameron.  I doubt they'll pull off the upset, but I like Georgetown to cover.  Georgetown.

Fun game.  Summers did go off, but Wright struggled.  Singler had 16 rebounds!  If JT3 can figure out a way to get his guys to rebound, they're going to be really scary.  The technical on Monroe really changed the game.  They really are not the same without him on the floor.  Amazing how this kid is the absolute leader of that team.

Henderson was a beast in the first half, Singler, like always, did everything, and Paulus showed up.  Duke is one solid big man away from being the best team in the country, IMO.  Unfortunately for them, they're going to struggle against teams with a big, physical frontcourt.
DJ:  I was wrong when I said Singler is stronger than Dunleavy.  There's no comparison.  Singler has "it" and he's one of the strongest skinny guys in the country.  One of those "don't let the looks fool ya" guys.

Other games I like:

Texas at Texas Tech, Texas is a 6 point favorite.  I love Texas to cover in this one.  Barnes ripped into his guys during and after the loss to Oklahoma.  I expect big games from James and Mason.  Texas.

James and Mason DID have big games.  This one was like taking candy from a baby.

Marquette at Providence, Marquette is a 1.5 favorite.  Providence is a good team and gets lost in that brutal conference, but Marquette has too many athletes.  Marquette is the pick.

Marquette played the worst first half of basketball I have seen in a long time.  No defense at all.  At one point, well into the game, Providence was shooting over 70% from the field.  Luckily Marquette got it together in the second half.  They stepped up the D and got some easy baskets.  Good win at a place where they haven't won before.

Arizona at USC, USC is a 7 point favorite.  I really like this USC team and they've been playing well, even in their loss to UCLA, they were never out of it.  Arizona hasn't been playing all that well and they are one of the worst teams in the country against the spread over the last decade, but I'm looking for a big game from Hill, Gibson gets in early foul trouble, and Arizona makes it close.  They cover and possibly win.  Arizona.

Hill and Buddinger were solid and Gibson did foul out, (what a prophet) but what a surprise, Nic Wise blew this game.  I'm happy to win this one, but I really was disappointed that AZ didn't win.  This team is way more talented than their record.  They miss Lute.

4-2 ATS today, and kind of disappointed about it.  Obviously I was expecting 6-0.  I'd like to let it ride tomorrow on a football game, but I have been awful ATS in the playoffs this season.  Hell, I'm not certain I can even pick the winners straight up.  My guess would be Pittsburgh and Philly.  So, take the dogs.
