From the Strib.

Former Wild forward Matt Cullen says he's retiring at age 42.

Matt Cullen, the former Moorhead High School and St. Cloud State standout, announced in a video Wednesday that he's retiring from the National Hockey League at age 42.

"The relationships I've built over all these years are the most important things I'll take with me," said Cullen, who played most recently for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Cullen played for the Wild from 2010-2013 and again for the 2017-18 season. The final season in Minnesota was sandwiched between two stints with the Penguins, for whom he had seven goals and 13 assists in 71 games last season.

He finished his career with 266 goals in 1,516 games.

In a four-minute video, Cullen started off by saying, "You already know that I've been around a long time."

The video went on the show career highlights before Cullen, who played for eight NHL teams, added: "Right now, there's only one more part of my story left to write -- the end."

You can watch the video here:

The video is embedded in the page at the Strib and doesn't copy over well.
A class act all the way!

Love that career
Love that good-bye as well
CLASS ACT
Moorhead just gained three great young hockey studs, and one HOF-type PeeWee coach for their youth levels.

Anyone see TJ Oshie beer-bonging it at the recent pro-am golf tourney?
If it wasn't for the horrific decision he made to waste part of his life as a Sue, the dude would be in my top 3 people of all time.

We had a chance to go through the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth, MN last week, and I recommend it to hockey fans. I'm sure it isn't as expansive as the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, but they house some pretty cool artifacts and have a ton of displays that show the evolution of the game of hockey. Plenty of stuff about the Miracle team, and of course they highlight the Eveleth history (great photo of John Mariucci with a bandaged hand and a face that just barely made it through a brawl). Eveleth is kind of in the middle of nowhere - but we made it a stop when we drove from Grand Marais to Bemidji.

I'd love to get up there. I got to go to the Christian hockey stick factory in Warroad many moons ago. There's a huge hockey culture up there.
