Yeap, players aren't allowed to be with their teams for 2 weeks starting Monday.  We should get Harding back and there's a good chance Chuck K may return.

So are the Wolves following the same route they went with Fernandez?
Sign him, then Backstrom gets better and Manny was gone.

Now Backstrom is signed long-term, and Harding has had some good outings.

Would they move Backstrom at some point in the next year or so?

They can't unless he gives the ok.  He has a no trade clause.  Tim has always said move Backs.  I was against that but I'm starting to agree with him.  He gives up way too many soft goals (all 3 the other night).  It won't happen though.  They will most likely move Harding to a team like the Caps for a prospect or 2.  I still like Backs but he:

A.  gives up many stopable pucks
B.  is being payed like an elite keeper and isn't playing like one.

Thanks for the info Jeff. I follow the Wild from a distance. This is the kind of info I'm always curious about.

What do the Wild have for upcoming goalies? Better than Harding??

Really, only the guy that played the other day Khudobin.  He's showed some pretty good promise and he's really young.

Brian Lawton gets canned as 'Ning GM. Not a surprise.
Lets get the playoffs started!

The West

Sharks vs Avs.
Mismatch in talent, but the Avs have proven to be scrappy as hell all year. Will the Sharks collars get tight in this round or the next?
Sharks in 5

Blackhawks vs Preds.
Everyone's favorites vs a tough Preds team. I'm not totally sold on ChiTown yet, until they win some tough ones where they are supposed to win.
Hawks in 5

Canucks vs Kings.
Intriguing matchup, pretty damn even imo. Kings are better than most think, imo, some talented guys. Vancouver always finds a way to irritate and compete.
'Nucks in 7

Coyotes vs Red Wings.
My favorite match-up. Upstarts vs old guard. Outstanding contrast in style and age and expectations. All the emotionn is on the 'Yotes side, but Detroit will never roll over for anyone.
Wings in 6

Good calls on them all.  I agree but the one difference is I see the Preds giving the Nucks a little bit of a harder time.  6 games maybe.

The East

Caps vs Habs
Excited to see if the juggernaut regular season Caps are ready to bring it post-season. I think so. They play with reckless abandon. None of these East teams like each other, will be fun.
Caps in 5

Devils vs Flyers
The amazing JL takes his boys into the playoffs. Never count him out of anything. Revamped Flyers seem to be hitting a pretty good stride, got some momentum from the final day push.
My one rule? Never bet against JL, or the Devils.
Devils in 6

Sabres vs Bruins
Really thought Buffalo would be better than they are, but the playoffs could cure that. This will be a scrappy series, looking forward to this one. Not a Bruins-liker.
Sabres in 7

Pens vs Sens

The league pretty-boys vs the unknown Sens. One of these years, Ottawa will play up to their potential. No ones afraid of Pittsburgh, this will be a tougher series than most think, imo.
Pens in 6

It's a pretty sad state of affairs.  Every single non NHL playoff game is on a major network with HD coverage.

These 2?  One is on Versus and the other is on Center Ice

Yep. And they wonder why the sport never takes hold.
Shoulda scrambled after the Olympics and arranged a better playoff coverage package, somehow, someway.
I'm ok, with Directv and center-ice, but I woulda found a way to watch it anyway.
Its the "maybe could be a fan" guy they need to go after, and they don't.
The NHL simply HAS to go back on ESPN. I don't care if you have to GIVE them the contract, just do it, or your sport will die.
Even simply make one of the odd-ESPNs your network, I don't care if its 2 or 3 or Ocho or Classic, just get on ESPN. Whatever it takes.

Huge statement by Ottawa.
Barnabutthead and Melrose were really raggin on the Sens today, about how they stood no chance against the elite Pens.
Well, tonight they did.
Looks like the Phlyers may get another upset done as well.
2-0 late.

Yep, 2-1 Phlyer win.
2 games in the books, two upsets already.
Gonna be more work than those two teams thought they'd have to put in.
Thats the great thing about the NHL playoffs to me.
Most of the time, reg season means SQUAT.

SanJose following their normal routine ... arrive into playoffs .... and choke immediately.
One of the craziest m.o.s in sports, they simply cannot perform when it counts most.
Phoenix and Detroit will be one hell of series before it is over. 'Yotes riding emotion right now, but Detroit is finally healthy and they will be hard to put away.

Agree about the Sharks.  I said it in semi-jest about 2 months ago here.  "The Sharks have the season wrapped up.   Now the only question left is who takes them out in round 1"

Sabres take Game one with the Bruins
Olympic hero Miller with a strong showing net
And I'm never gonna stop pushing to get Vanek back here some day
25-28-53, I'll take that every year from him, and a big goal at a big time tonight (he's always done that)

Caps and Candiens in a barn-burner in OT

And .. another upset!
Candiens take Game One, 3-2.
Man, these teams are even. Going to see a lot of 6 or 7-game opening series the way it looks.
Nobody has an easy walk.

Kings give the 'Nucks all they can handle.
Lose in OT. Great night of hockey, every game was tight as hell.
Best
Time
of
Year.

Mexican restaraunt tonight, wife and dogs knocked out, playing guitar and drinking beers, the Hawks get beat and now the Wings/Yotes on?  The "S"-eating grin on my face could tell a pretty cool story

Amazing series so far ... all of them
Pitt barely gets even, same with NJ
Nashville shocks the Hawks.
Colo giving the Sharks fits again
Wings and 'Yotes dead-even

I hope you are watching the Wings/Yotes my man.  It's incredible.  If not, sorry.  I don't want to be that guy and if you are at work I can give you sites that stream the games.

Nah, I'm cool.
I can leave gamecast up and monitor it while I'm doing everything else.

Just love how even everyone seems to be.
Can't wait for my days off, I'll be in front of the TV for hours every night. Love late-night playoff games. Love em.

Amazing both games tied at 4s

Whoa!
Detroit puts the hammer down late!
And the Sharks ... what can you say.
Virtually impossible to play hockey with both hands secured tightly around your neck.
Hard to get anything done.
