65% from the field in the first half.

Finished at 46% for the game.

No big deal. Sure it would be nice to do well, but these tournaments (for us) are about teaching, evaluation and experience.

I'm more excited for this season than I have been in a long time.

After watching today's game, I think we're going to be annihilated on the glass in conference play. Just not enough size and athleticism on the front line right now. Just another reason losing out on Travis is a bummer.

3 games in 3 days a little to much for Gophers. No legs. If they are actually showing us what they are like, then it will be a long Big 10 season

So apparently JG on KFAN is full of it. He said the Gophers were losing late.

No - I think they WERE losing late. It sounds like it was a late burst that got them in the lead and then they kept it. Chaminade probably deflated when they gave up the lead late in the game and just never got their mojo back.

How many players do you think will get significant minutes with our new coach? Ten?

And we beat Florida State by shooting 34% from the field.

The officials made this an ugly game - it was barely basketball.

67 combined FTAs.

Cannot imagine these new rule enforcements are going to be this picky all year. Made the game a marathon.

I hope you're right Ed, they made the game hard to watch.

Almost wondered if they were calling all that to make a point of how difficult it would be to let some things go, others not, if they want to tighten up the rules on contact by the defensive player.

But for the refs, that would have been a highly entertaining game.

Very impressed with the bounceback yesterday against a big team.  Again: well coached team; smart players.

Dre Hollins is one of the most enjoyable Gophers to watch in years.

Matheiu and Austin aren't bad, either.

I hope so.  If not, I'd just drive on every play, lower my head, and wait for the foul call.  Silly.

If Tubby Smith would have been coaching that team last nite, the Gophers lose by ten or more. Its refreshing to see a coach who actually knows what he's doing.

Tonights game not on local tv, but looks like it will be on ESPN3 over the net and on watch/ESPN on your mobile device

Not only is Rick Pitino in the house tonight, he's wearing a Gophers hockey sweater.  Nice!

I liked that as well. Richard, should posterize that and use it as a recruiting tool.

Richard Pitino said he didn't know his dad -- Louisville Hall of Fame head coach Rick Pitino -- was coming to the game until he walked onto the court and saw him with his own eyes.

"And I saw my idiot brother yelling at me," Pitino joked. "So I saw all of them over there. It was great. A lot of fun. ... I really appreciate it. That was fun."

The elder Pitino did witnessed the Gophers 75-59 victory over South Dakota State on Tuesday night at Williams Arena.

The Gophers definitely took notice.

"I was like oh man, that's crazy," junior guard DeAndre Mathieu said. "That's Rick Pitino really in the building."

"He's a legend," Mathieu added. "It's always good to play in front of a legend. It's always different. He's critiqueing everything. He knows a little bit more than his son, because he taught his son."

Rick Pitino's attire for the game? A Minnesota sweatshirt and a maroon and gold scarf.

"He looked good in that maroon and gold," Richard Pitino said. "I think maybe if one of our guys gets a job, we'll just slide him right in as an assistant coach. I did three years with him. He's got to pay me back."

Mathieu said Rick Pitino spoke to Minnesota after the game. Mathieu said Rick Pitino told the Gophers they could be a final four team if they just think they are.

Rick Pitino sat down with the Big Ten Network at halftime and said he's proud of what his son's performance so far with the Gophers.

"He's probably a couple power forwards away from really making it happen," Rick Pitino said.

Richard Pitino said his dad was supposed to come to the Florida State game, but couldn't make it. He said he's glad Minnesota got the win in front of his dad.

"I brag about this place so much, that I wanted him to see it," Richard Pitino said. "So I'm happy he got a chance to see it."

Lose BTN opener by 3.

Some real poor execution in the final minutes. 2 possessions in a row w/turnover.
Austin Hollins bricking 3 tries. Dre Hollins with a drive and miss w/12 seconds left.

Bleh.
