Why would we intentionally try to get another school to co-opt the name? They need to have their own mascot.

Probably right. I'll get rid of it.

Does anyone know yet how they are selecting the NCAA tourney teams this year? Someone said they are not using Pairwise?

I don't think anybody really knows for sure, but my guess is they will use a combo of the pairwise, RPI, strength of schedule, head-to-head, polls, and of course the eye test.
Check this out at USCHO website.

The guy who did this mock bracket has Bemidji in the tourney, so you will be happy if it goes that way.

Interesting article. Thanks! But I don't see how the WCHA gets a "D" grade. I'd say the writers must be biased against the conference, but then they go and put 4 WCHA teams in. Giving the conference a D grade is just wrong. It's actually a stronger conference with the Alaska teams out. You're playing back-to-back tough games 6 times out of 7. The only truly crappy team in the conference is Ferris State.

Gophers get by MSU in OT to advance to the semi finals of the B10 tourney.
Had to score late in the 3rd period just to get it to OT.

MSU's goalie was unbelievable. Gophers outshot the Spartans by a huge amount.

I still hate conference tournaments be they hockey or BB.

Gophers open up a can of whoop ass on Bucky Badger in the 2nd period of the B10 championship game to go into the final period with a 5-1 lead.
Just need to keep playing hard and stay out of the box and should be good.
A win tonight could very well give them a #1 seed in the NCAA's too.

Well, they took their foot off the gas and gave up 3 goals in the 3rd before a late empty net goal sealed the banner late.
Final score 6-4 good guys.

Congrats to the Gophers.
Wisconsin had a great second half of their season but Gophers were the class of the Big10.

I suspect the 8-1 drubbing was still on the minds of the Gophers, and they were determined to give a little payback. The good guys won. Now on to the NCAA.

That 2nd period last night was probably their best period of hockey all season. Every line was just buzzing and Bucky had no answer. If they play like that period from here on out, this team could make some major noise in the tourney.

A full day of hockey today:
At noon is St Cloud State vs BU on ESPNews
On ESPNU 4PM is Bemidji vs UMass, 6:30PM is UMD vs NoDak, 9PM is Gophers vs Omaha
Streaming on ESPN3 is Mankato vs Quinnipiac at 4 PM.
It's supposed to rain all day here, so parking it in front of the TV all day will be easier to explain to the wife.

Gophers rolled Omaha. It was fairly obvious from the first half of the first period that the match-up was all Gophers, so it was never a nail-biter.

I just hope they don't think they're going to face the same opponent with Mankato. Those always seem to be tough games for us - so no slacking!!! (Not that I think they will given the circumstances of playing for a Final Four spot).

Yeap. Would much rather see Quinnipiac. Whether they admit it or not, those kids that don't get chosen by the U have a massive chip on their shoulder when they play the U. We always get their best.

The thing with Mankato is they are mostly older players that took a few years of USHL or Juniors before going to college.
This years team has over a dozen players that are 23 or older, so they have been around.
Should be a real good game tonight. Both teams roll 4 lines, so it will be interesting.

So far Mankato taking it to the Gophers badly.
I don't remember the last time the Gophers haven't been out played by MSU, and tonight is no different.
If they don't find their legs and get something going in the 2nd their season could be over.

Defensive performance by Mankato was off the charts. Smothered the Gophers from start to finish.

Bummer to end the season/tournament this way, but we'll have some choices of which Minnesota team to root for to win the championship.

They got intimated early and it snowballed. There were a couple of "iffy" hits early on and the refs let it go. We don't have that type of game. Good game plan by them.

"Iffy" hits by Mankato has been a trademark for as long as they have had a hockey program.
They have actually cleaned it up a lot since Hastings took over as coach, but the still play a very heavy game that our younger Gophers just aren't built to handle.

Yeap. Great game plan. I have no problem with it. If the refs are letting you play, play. Now, don't get too overboard with it but I have no issues with a physical game.

Seems just as nuts. A few Gophers are in it, it seems? LaFontaine back next year?

The year I don't follow Husky Hockey and now they are in the Frozen 4. Git R Dun.

Jared Moe goes from splitting goaltending duties, to back up goal tender, to transfer portal to dead to us. He is transferring to Wisconsin. A falling scoreboard is too good for him.
