ORIGINAL: SoMnFan Bad news ... we fall further behind St Cloud this weekend as we were idle and they swept the Beavers Good news ... we have two or four games in hand on everyone in the WCHA right now. HAVE to win those "extras" So amazing to look at the Goph roster. One senior. One. Some of these guys seem like 5-year vets ... and they're only Sophs or Jrs. Serratore? He's played a decade, and he's still a Junior. Ben Marshall? Soph? Are you kidding me? If we don't have a mass defection to the NHL, this team will be loaded for years to come. With many others already committed. With no Gopher hockey this weekend, I was subjected to two games of SCSU-BSU on Lakeland Public TV. I'll give them credit because they increased the production budget over last year. But now it's only half a step up from a high school public access program instead of being a high school public access program. Anyway, that BSU team SUCKS! What happened there? They were riding such a high wave when they entered the WCHA. They seemed to be an OK fit in the league at first. Now they're just an embarrassment. One good thing about the new Big 10 conference for BSU is that they will most likely fit into the revamped WCHA a lot better than they fit in the current one. Fellow BSU alum here. You're completely right Matt, the Beavers are totally in the tank right now. We actually competed at a pretty good level the first 2 years in the league, but this year is bad. We had some pretty good players graduate (Read for the Flyers was a ROY candidate last year), but they were hoping getting into the WCHA would elevate recruiting. Apparently that hasn't been the case. You're right on about the WCHA getting weaker. Hopefully we'll be able to compete again. I am scared at the thought of what the Gophers are gonna do to the Beavers. When I first heard about the WCHA kinda falling apart, I felt really bad for BSU. They built that new arena in order to get acceptance in the league....and then they get bailed on. What will happen to attendance when UND, SCSU, UMD and the Gophers aren't coming into town anymore? But now I'm thinking winning is the real cure for keeping attendance up. Sure, it's not as cool to see you beating Northern Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Southern Michigan and Western Michigan, but it's probably better than getting crushed by SCSU, UND, UMD and the Gophers. Now the trick is to find a way to be a dominant team in the new WCHA, which will be tough, but can be done. BSU has a better hockey tradition than probably any of the other teams in the new WCHA. Win the league, get in the tourney, and make a somewhat flukey (but still legit) run like you did 4 years ago.
