Yep, it takes the best to push us.
We're still lazy when we're easily better than the opponent
Youre right Jeff, this is an incredibly loaded team

Yeap, agree 100%. Press clipping games are what I like to call them.

Any of you watch the HS stuff today?
Poor kids.
THAT was nasty.
I'm older school than anyone .... and even I would have been saying .... lets move this to the indoor rink, boys ...
This is from a guy who spent most of my youth winters skating in ALL weather.
It just looked miserable up there. I give them all a lot of credit for sticking it out....

Goldy Gopher won the mascot first place award again. It's good to back a winner.

Speaking of Goldy ... my son was at the Wild game last night and came across Ross Bernstein.
He texted me and couldn't believe how nice he was. They talked a long time about many things.
He never looks at himself as some uppity author, he's always open and fun to talk to. Ive had the pleasure myself many times.
Cracks me up that he was Goldy at one time.
So remember that when you get all full of yourself, Ms Lynn .... stay good to your readers!

I've met Ross a couple of times too and I love the fact that he always drills down to the fact that he's "just a rodent." I would love to have a tiny fraction of his book sales, so trust me I'm a long way from even visualizing being full of myself. :o)

News flash
You're #1 in the country and you're playing an in-state school who hates you.
Better be ready for anything, better be on top of your game.
Nope.

That one Gopher goal last night was pretty sweet, though.

But here's something annoying: AGAIN last night I failed to check the Big 10 Network. You'd think I'd learn? I partially blame Charter for moving it up into no-man's land on my channel listing.

Went to FSN for the game last night. Nope...Wild game (I think?). I'm on boycott , so I checked FSN.com for the FSN+ channel #. Found it, fully expecting to find the Gophers game. Nope...Wolves. Checked NBC Sports. College hockey, but it was Cornell or something. Gave up. Watched the live updates on Gophers.com.

Another annoying thing....I go to Gophers.com to see highlights. So I play the highlights....wanted to see the goal they lost on. The only goal they showed was the Gophers goal. Just show us the highlights of the game, whether they are good or bad for your team PLEASE. That is Twins-like corruption.

Was in my favorite bar last night
Had the Gophers, the Wolves, the Wild and the Blizzard ..... All on 65 inch screens at the same time.
Just didn't turn out well.

Much better game last night. Once again Friday was our "press clippings" game.

I was shocked they overturned the original call and gave the Gophers that first goal.  I sure did not see enough proof that it was a good goal.  Maybe they had a look that we didn't have.  That got the momentum going in the Gophs' favor.

Yeah, good call. I didn't think so either. That plus the one they took away from them was huge. Although, that was the right call IMO.

Bad news ...  we fall further behind St Cloud this weekend as we were idle and they swept the Beavers
Good news ... we have two or four games in hand on everyone in the WCHA right now. HAVE to win those "extras"

So amazing to look at the Goph roster.
One senior. One.
Some of these guys seem like 5-year vets ... and they're only Sophs or Jrs.
Serratore? He's played a decade, and he's still a Junior.
Ben Marshall? Soph? Are you kidding me?
If we don't have a mass defection to the NHL, this team will be loaded for years to come.
With many others already committed.

The problem with that man is that I can easily see Rau, Bjug, Budish and Haula all leaving after this year

Yep, thats the big exodus I was mentioning.
Nice to have plenty of re-loads tho.
I do look at those 4 as seniors.
I'd say its 100% on Bjugger and Haula
90% on Rauski
and probably 50/50 on the big Buddha

Congrats to the Gopher women's hockey team for adding one more win on this amazing run. I had been watching off and on and at one point looked away for a few minutes when they were tied at 2-2. When I turned it back on they were up 5-2 and then quickly scored one more. What an amazing team.

With no Gopher hockey this weekend, I was subjected to two games of SCSU-BSU on Lakeland Public TV.  I'll give them credit because they increased the production budget over last year.  But now it's only half a step up from a high school public access program instead of being a high school public access program.  Anyway, that BSU team SUCKS!  What happened there?  They were riding such a high wave when they entered the WCHA.  They seemed to be an OK fit in the league at first.  Now they're just an embarrassment.  One good thing about the new Big 10 conference for BSU is that they will most likely fit into the revamped WCHA a lot better than they fit in the current one.

Fellow BSU alum here. You're completely right Matt, the Beavers are totally in the tank right now. We actually competed at a pretty good level the first 2 years in the league, but this year is bad. We had some pretty good players graduate (Read for the Flyers was a ROY candidate last year), but they were hoping getting into the WCHA would elevate recruiting. Apparently that hasn't been the case.

You're right on about the WCHA getting weaker. Hopefully we'll be able to compete again. I am scared at the thought of what the Gophers are gonna do to the Beavers.

Has been a minor disappointment, hasn't it?
Agree with your assessment.
We've seen it before ... that dangling carrot where they push SO hard to get "in" ... doesn't sustain the intensity once you're "in"
You can really sell some "questionable" recruits on "hey, we're going balls-out after this whole getting-into-the-conference gig"
And many things happen after that. Pick one.  Complacency. Jealousy. Reality. Pay-back from embarassed opponents.

When I first heard about the WCHA kinda falling apart, I felt really bad for BSU.  They built that new arena in order to get acceptance in the league....and then they get bailed on.  What will happen to attendance when UND, SCSU, UMD and the Gophers aren't coming into town anymore?  But now I'm thinking winning is the real cure for keeping attendance up.  Sure, it's not as cool to see you beating Northern Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Southern Michigan and Western Michigan, but it's probably better than getting crushed by SCSU, UND, UMD and the Gophers.  Now the trick is to find a way to be a dominant team in the new WCHA, which will be tough, but can be done.  BSU has a better hockey tradition than probably any of the other teams in the new WCHA.  Win the league, get in the tourney, and make a somewhat flukey (but still legit) run like you did 4 years ago.
