Yeap, great 3rd period. Glad to see Warning finally get on the board last night too. He was the best player on the ice all night.

It sucks that we left 3 points on the ice the last 2 weekends. This team SHOULD have taken 8 out 8 and been in 1st place right now. Hopefully the 3rd period was the beginning of this team finding its game again.

All these years ... I still can't decide ... it is awesome to have the kind of talent where, if you play well, you will win, or is it not?
Thats the question with Gopher Hockey, always.
Other programs have to see this team and go .. "please, please, don't take this game seriously"
Speed up the wazoo (when they want to show it)
Size at every position (if they need it)
Skill everywhere (see above)

Is there a reason why the Gopher hockey team does so much better on Saturday than Friday? Do they finally wear out the opposition with their team speed on Saturday, or are they just not ready to play on Friday nights?

BSU doing a nice job of hanging in there so far.  Almost the end of the 2nd period....tied up 2-2.  Would love to see BSU pull off the sweep this weekend.  It's the only series of the year I root against the Gophers.

Hey come on - we have to be allowed ONE sport in which our team is a winner. We still have the post season rounds ahead of us, so it could still go either way - but geez, let us have one sport to feel good about.

Parenteau makes it 4-1 .... Co-Champs?   Looking possible.

Women winning at Ridder also. Their 912th straight win. or so it seems.

Gophs score another at the buzzer, finishing off a 5-1 win.
Waiting on results now, but a co-championship seems possible.

Just about a perfect night. St. Cloud loses, and so does No-Dak -- there are only two co-champions, and No-Dak ain't one!

Thirty eight seconds to go in the game and Bemidji ties it up. Gophers far outplayed Bemidji but couldn't get it to show on the scoreboard. Grrrr.

Come on guys, finish them off quick in this overtime period.

It was a phew moment. How many flurries in front of the Bemidji goal did we have and couldn't get that puck in? Just seemed like a bunch of bad puck luck.

But it's all good in the end. They need to rest up for tomorrow.

Yuck
Flashbacks to the mid 2000s .....
We're so damn good we refuse to do anythingn unless its absolutely perfect.
Dont ask me to advance the puck ugly .... wait for me to get it on my stick perfectly, so I can fire it perfectly, or else, i simply won't do anything.
Their goalies a stud.
Duh. make him move.
He's 6 foot 2 and 225. There are no holes to shoot it thru him. Fire it, attack the rebound, and make him move.
We're very lucky to escape that trap.
Was there ever anything more inevitable than them getting that equalizer late? It felt INEVITABLE
And of course Helgeson had to go back to being "shaky helgeson" at the worst time ...

A wins a win.
Welcome to the WCHA playoffs
But if you aren't willing to get more greasy than you were tonight, don;t bother showing up from here out. Nothings pretty this time of year. Get greasy.

After fullfilling my lifelong dream to coach at both the X and Mariucci ... my one observation is ...
The Mariucci ice surface is (seems) MASSIVE.
We've played on Olympic-sized before, but theres something about that one that seems crazy-wide and crazy-long.
Speed is vital there. I think its overlooked, the fact that styles need to change from one rink to the other.

That's what always scares me about the NCAA. Its always played on a normal sheet and immediatley puts us at a disadvantage.

Wow, hockey is a funny game. I watched most of the game last night (Beaver fan here) just to see how bad it would be. It was worse than I thought it would be, and somehow the game goes to OT. The U deserved to win that game about 7-1. I don't know of any other sport where one team can outplay another team so badly and still almost lose.

You guys are right on about the ice size. Although the Gophers outplayed the Beavers last weekend, it was much more competitive than last night. The Gophers speed on that Olympic ice just carves us up. It looks like after this weekend I'll be a Gopher fan for the rest of the year!

I can't tell if the Gophers are just a bit off but Bemidji went up 1-0 on a power play goal. End of the first and they couldn't tie it up. Crud.

Come on guys. Come out in the 2nd period with a vengeance.

In the meantime, the women finished their second overtime. Crossing my fingers for them. After the undefeated season they can't lose now!
