Really? What's going on with Malcolm Jenkins? He's VERY highly rated for the 2009 draft. I was wondering if we'll see a Jenkins/Decker battle all day.

Tough loss today but not unexpected. Like I feared, their Oline just created monster holes for 28. Brewster will probably point to TO's but, to me, that wasn't the biggest factor.

Not bad, not bad.
We got pushed around a little, but didn't break, and most importantly didn't quit.
We were still moving the ball some and being physical in the 4th when they really wanted to keep us down.
I see good things.
We are much more capable, more athletic, more physical on both sides of the ball. Seem quicker and more confident. I like where we are going.
And LOVE the unis, Classy simple look.
Mason did a great job on the pbp, imo. Very neutral, very informative on all the kids. He KNOWS these Gopher kids, and still likes them all. Good man. I wish him well. But we are in a better spot without him. I think Brewster knows what he is doing, I really do. Now, that said .....
There is NO excuse for not competing in every game from here out.
If we don't finish .500, I will be sorely disappointed. You can't stand toe-to-toe with OSU, then fold when Purdue or Michigan State come knocking. At least a split with the two rivals Wisc/Iowa is a must.
Bummed we lost, and it wasn't really close.
But the good news is we are going up, not down, or spinning our wheels.
There is potential here.

Agreed. We may be the underdog in a many of the remaining games, but we should be pretty competitive in almost all of them.

Yep, we can certainly win two more games this year....but a seven win season would be excellent! And I like our chances in the remaining home games (Indiana, Northwestern, Michigan, Iowa). If there is a "must win" game, I think it's this week. I see Indiana as the weakest team in the conference. We are about a touchdown favorite right now, and playing them at home. I don't believe we play Mich State this year, and luckily not PSU either.

I think so too. Next year is when Brewster will have to fill some expectations. We sure don't lose many Seniors, so I expect a lot in 2009!

This isn't Ohio State.
That said, you better show up to compete.
They are sick of losing to us.
These are the teams we have to squash, if we are going the right direction.

Nice win.
We played some defense.
Slowly putting all facets together.
Decker with a nice day as usual.
Some giving-up-sacks issues, but overall, we did enough to win.
Made some first downs late to seal the win.
And played some D.

Amazing how much we dominated them to be tied at the half. But you never felt like this could be a loss.

That was the best defense I've seen from the boys in a long, long time.

But I hope our CB is OK. Kid can really cover.

It was fun to feel confident that every time our defense was on the field, that we'd stop the drive. The one long bomb where the coverage broke down is the only real black mark for the day.

Only one penalty on the Gophers too. I wish the Vikings could learn from that, as well as the obvious takeaways.

Only nine-plus minutes into the Gophers' football game with Indiana on Saturday at the Metrodome, it appeared the home team was in trouble. On third-and-goal on the game's opening drive, Gophers quarterback Adam Weber was sacked by Jammie Kirlew.
Weber tried to get up, but couldn't put weight on his right leg. Weber was being treated on the sidelines as Joel Monroe missed a 28-yard field goal attempt, possibly because of a bad snap.
It was the first of a few injuries Saturday. Both Weber (bruised knee) and receiver Eric Decker (knee to the head) were able to come back, and play major roles in the victory. But cornerback Marcus Sherels (shoulder) and tackle Dom Alford (ankle) were not.
Sherels' injury could be the hardest to deal with. In his first season on defense since moving to corner from wide receiver, Sherels had become a leader in the secondary. He was hurt on a deep pass from Kellen Lewis to Andrew Means midway through the second quarter. Sherels had position on the play, so Means tackled him, with Sherels landing on his right shoulder. He left the field with his arm hanging limp and didn't return. Ryan Collado replaced him.
"I don't know how [badly] injured Sherels is," coach Tim Brewster said. "Obviously, losing Marcus Sherels will be a tough one for us if we do lose him for a little bit."
Collado, a former starter, played ably, forcing a fumble and finishing tied for the team lead with seven tackles. And he would figure to start next week at Illinois if Sherels cannot play.
Another option would be freshman Troy Stoudermire. But Stoudermire also is playing on offense and returning kicks. He could also assume punt return duties long-term should Sherels miss an extended period.
Alford left the game in the third quarter after apparently re-injuring the left ankle that kept him out of the past two games.

I hate to say it but he has a full blown dislocation. I've had shoulder problems for a bunch of years and I've been through it. I could tell the way the trainer was "pulling on it" on the field. That's a way to snap it back on to position. He'll be fine but he'll be out for a couple of months. I hope I am wrong.

I mentioned this about 2 weeks ago. If he played for USC or GA, he'd be in the running for the Heisman.

I think it is obvious that Brewster's emphasis on defense is paying off. Recruiting top juco defensive players really accelerated the defense building process. The are clearly faster and playing faster this year. They have now pummeled two QB's that tore them to shreds last year.

I was a little concerned by Adam Weber falling back into forcing it a little today. I also have some convcerns about him becoming a little too dependant on Decker. The upside is that he CAN depend on Decker.

All and all it is a heck of a turn around this year. If they just hold serve at home the rest of the year they will actually play in a New Years Day bowl game.

Yep, the Juco work is paying off.
Totally different approach to D when you have some athletes/speed.
Great points Tim.
These are QBs who toyed with us last year that we are shutting down.
Keep going forward.
A New Years Day bowl game is in reach.
THAT's How you slowly turn this thing around. Keep working and don't read the papers, boys.
Good recruiter, new stadium, exposure in a bowl game. Keep building.

• Both Eric Decker (head) and Weber (knee) are OK. Decker was knocked woozy on the first play of the fourth quarter but eventually returned. Weber was dinged up on the Gophers' first drive but didn't miss a snap. Left tackle Dom Alford (ankle) also is expected to play Saturday.
• If Sherels doesn't play, Brewster said he would look at either David Pittman or Brandon Green on punt returns. Decker still could be used in a pinch.
• Decker leads NCAA Division I in receiving yards (696) and is second in receptions (50) after his 13-catch, 190-yard effort Saturday.

I had been purposely avoiding looking at who we played next.
I was afraid it was Illinois. I was right.
Bad match-up right now for us. Watched Juice Williams Saturday, and he looks tremendous.
Sherels not ruled out of playing yet, but you gotta think he won't, or at least won't be 100%
This is actually the one game I am worried we may get schooled in.
I hope I am wrong.

FSN is doing a nice job this year with the Gopher Football Show.
Brewster is very open and informative.
LaPanta is doing a very nice job.
And the female reporter they use is gorgeous and actually good at the job.
It's light-years ahead of the Vikings poor excuse of a show, imo.
Amazing the change in Gopher-land, the players are just better. Flat-out better.
Even when they interview them, you can tell. Confident, strong.
Man, I hope this keeps going in the right direction.
