Even he never plays football again, this is good for him.

Sounds like he definitely will play football again. According to the doctors if he had the surgery 2 months earlier he could have played this year.

I see a lot of experts had the Gophers losing this game.
They are up 23-3 near the end of three.
Good signs. The D has not let up any long pass plays today. Were burned on one, but the FAU receiver TWill'ed it.

Now it's 30-3.   This is really enjoyable.

Dare we think we'll have real football back about hte time the new stadium opens up?
I'm giddy.
I spent many days in the old bowl of Memorial Stadium. Can't wait for on-campus games again.

Maybe the Vikings need to borrow the "takeaway Tuesdays" practice.

The parity throughout CFB is amazing.
Central Michigan hanging tough with Purdue.
There are very few cupcakes anymore, talent is spreading out across the country.
Kids want to play early and coaches are letting them.
Looks like the top has come back to the pack and the bottom has improved.
The App State-type wins have meant so much to recruiting for smaller schools.
I look at it as a great thing.

Eskridge with 2 TDs, 37-3 now.
Niiiice. Dominating teams we should.
Makes for better weeks of practice, better expectations, better results.

How do you see their chances against Ohio State?

I've been fooled too many times, but I think it is a great opportunity for us to step up and play a quality league opponent.
I think we'll take some early punches and be shocked by their size and speed.
How we react to it will tell the tale  of the season.
I'm ready to believe.
I see us hanging tough all day with them, and if we stay within 10 or so I'll be happy and call it progress.
We have to realize how low we were not too long ago.
It's a huge game for the program, imo.
OSU is still stinging from their national beat-down, so they won't be looking past us.
If we show up and go nose-to-nose, we should be ok with that.
They are still in a different league than us, but it's where we have to get to. Might as well start heading there.

Good assessment Scott.   I agree that the Gophers are heading in the right direction but may not have reached the level of the top teams that we need to beat.   At this point it would be nice to just hang with them, but looking down the road it's absolutely foreseeable that they can deliver the beat down necessary to send teams like that packing.

Freshman Phenom Pryor had a big day today (4 TDs) against Troy.
He poses huge problems for our LBs and DBs.
Weber and our O will HAVE to control the ball and move the chains.
If our D spends too much time chasing Pryor, we're toast.
Our running game has dropped since losing our top RB.
We have to run the ball, we have to complete passes.
Great challenge and a great learning experience.

Very nice to shut down a QB that threw for almost 500 yards and 5 TDs against us last year.

I trust what opponents say more than "experts"

Last season, the Owls outgained the Gophers 580 yards to 470. This time, the Gophers had a 441-276 edge.

“We were outplayed by a team that was on a mission to re-establish themselves as a big-time football team,” FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger said. “[Minnesota] is certainly going in the right direction. We were no match in any regard. … There were a lot of coulda-beens for us today. For them, there were no coulda-beens, there were only just-dids.”

Nice win for sure.  I'm still surprised about Eskridge.  That kid has a great feel for the holes.  He is patient when needed but decisive at the same time.  I like that in him.  There isn't a lot of unneeded dancing.   There were a few runs where he busted through the line and backers only to put his head down to run over a DB.  If he learns to make that one last move he'll house a few.

OSU's Oline scares the bejeepers out of me.  They are huge compared to our DLine.  That will tell the story of the afternoon IMO.  If they dominate it'll be a long day.

Agree JJ. Their O-line vs our D-line is scary. Here's hoping Roofy has some tricks up his sleeve.
Almost thought we'd get some poll-love, but nope, and thats great. Don't deserve it and it would only hurt us.
Just saying, they usually start putting goofy expectations out there when you haven't lost yet.
Good sign that we handled the team that beat the team that just beat Iowa.
I just want to see steady improvement. Hanging with OSU for awhile would signify that.

Well, one AP voter put us at #25 and we got eight votes in the USA today poll.  Win this week and you'll see those numbers skyrocket!

As far as THEEEE Ohio State goes...they are bigger, stronger, more athletic, probably faster, and as well coached.  Also, it sounds like Beanie will play this week.  It's a home game for them, and they are like 18 point favorites.  Throw in that our O-line is kinda banged up.  Do we even have a chance??

Heck yeah!  Gopher teams have knocked off higher rated teams in the past.  Our guys are playing pretty well as a team already.  Our turnover ratio is excellent and we are going up against a true freshman QB.  Also, someone needs to remind OSU that NEXT week they travel to the mighty Wisconsin Badgers.  They are the #9 ranked team in the nation and perhaps the biggest threat to unseat OSU as Big-10 champs.  Don't even worry about the Gophs, just look ahead.  Start preparing for the Badgers right now, at least that's what I hope is happening   And finally regarding the non-conference games.... excluding USC, our schedule compares favorably.  Ohio will likely finish below Bowling Green in the MAC.  Same with Troy vs Florida Atl in the Sunbelt.  Youngstown State is a 1-AA school.  And back to USC....well....we could suffer a blown out loss to the Trojans also, just like they did.

I think you have to figure OSU will win, but maybe we can make it interesting.  They may well be the best team we play this year.

I think I heard that OSU's secondary isn't that good right now. Weber to Decker all day

The biggest problem for us is that we need to somehow find a way to slow down their running game.  I already expect to get zero pressure on their QB (face it, our Dline isn't very good and they have a huge offensive line).  Couple that in with a good running day for them and Decker and Weber won't see the field enough to make them dangerous.

I really can't see Beanie being that effective yet. Foot problems like that usually last a long time.
