No - I went to a Missouri/Colorado game.   It was Mizzou's homecoming.

I DO remember watching Kansas/Missouri last year and being mesmerized by that coach of theirs and worried that he was going to have a heart attack during the game.   Kansas is a primary rival of Mizzou, but I honestly don't know anything more about them.

I'll check with my son between classes and see what he thinks.

I finally got an e-mail response from my son Scott. I asked for a scouting report on Kansas, and this is what he wrote:

quote:

About Kansas, they seem to have a pretty good offense but their defense is susceptible. Unfortunately, it seems like the Gophers offense declined dramatically towards the end of the season, so we'll see how that plays out. I think the Gophers can win, but it's going to be tough for them to keep up. As long as their secondary doesn't play like Mizzou's, they should at least stand a chance.

Lynn are there any players on the Gophers team that played with your son in Bloomington?

Two that I know of.  He played with Andy Brinkhaus, OT.   Andy's older brother used to get a fair amount of playing time with the Gophers, although I don't know if Andy does.

Barrett Moen, DT, is another one, although I honestly don't know if he ever gets playing time as a Gopher.   He goes by the nickname "Bear."

And then of course next year's Gopher - Moses Alipate.   Moses has a younger brother on the Jefferson team too, although I've never seen him play.

Thanks Lynn.
Will probably come down to whether Weber/Decker and Co. can get their act back together.

Decker should be all healed up by then, although any Kansas players who have been nicked up will be healed too.

I'm keeping my expectations low (it's the only way I can handle things like post season play), and encouraged looking ahead to next season.  If we continue the progress we saw between last season and this one - we should be undefeated!

I see Spry is transferring.  No a big shock I guess as he was called out at times

No loss IMO. He either dropped the passes or when he did hang on and gain some yards, he would end up fumbling it. The kid is fast and a lot of hope in him after his freshman season. I do wish him luck. Maybe he can settle down in a different program.

Is this where we'll pretend to be UM-Duluth fans/experts today?

Excuuuuse me.
I see them once a year.
Doesn't make me an expert.
Fun to see a fellow NSIC team get this far, that's all I meant by enjoying the ass-kicking they handed out last week.

What a horseshit late hit call.  Damnit.

Wha????  What happened to the hold????  Even I could see that one!  Then NWMO shoves a UMD player into the NWMO QB out-of-bounds and UMD gets a late hit penalty!

OK....these announcers are confusing the hell out of me.  I guess the personal foul call was for a facemask by UMD in the backfield.  I still saw a hold though.

How many fumbles does NWMO have now???  Must be like 6 or 7 in one half!  Unfortunately they keep recovering their own fumbles.

1:17 left in the half.  Scoreless.  Don't do anything stupid now, UMD.  I hate to advocate taking a knee....but the way the ball is slipping all over the place this game, maybe you just decide this game in the 2nd half.

That's a CLEAR touchdown.

Good thing they didn't take a knee. Shows what I know!

Good thing I saw this thread - I didn't realize the game was on.  It's great that MN Duluth is up 21-0 after what sounds like a tough start.   Go Bulldogs!

Your DII National Champs.
Congrats UMD
Looks like Whitewater WI will win the DIII title also.
Great memories for REAL amateur athletes.

Well - I was watching for about three minutes when Duluth threw a pick six interception.   I hope I'm not bad luck.

All they have to do is grind out a long, sustained, clock-eating drive and they'll be okay.

Refs help 'em out to end the game.  Sweet.

I don't think the refs helped.  It was clear that number 15 of the Bulldogs fell on that ball and lay on it for a minute.   I think that was the correct call.

The two game suspension probably didn't help either.  I've been down on Spry this year also, but still will offer my thanks to him, Andre Tate & Jimmy Thompson for at least giving the Gophers a shot.  Hopefully they will find a better fit somewhere else.

I still don't think we will make the full recruiting class of 25, but now there should be 3 more scholorships available.....
