Sounds like Current NDSU coach Chris Klieman & former NDSU coach Bohl are in the conversation.

Athlon named those 2 plus: Troy Calhoun from Air Force, Fleck from W Michigan, Harsin from Boise State, and Greg Schiano.

One of the Regents mentioned Kevin Sumlin & also Chip Kelly.

Bohl has a 6.5 million buyout at Wyoming, Klieman has a 300k buyout, 175k after Jan 17th.

Know this, for now: #Gophers AD Mark Coyle is already off-and-running. He's no longer in the Twin Cities. Search will move VERY fast.

Anyone up on Boll?
Is he sewed up and happy at Wyoming?
Aren't we a bigger player than them?
Isn't he what we need?
A program constructor from the bottom up.
The facilities and the surroundings will soon be top notch.
Find a guy for the long haul

I would be down with the hire....I thought he was older than 58.

Yeah kinda forgot that .... May be a little long in the tooth for our long term needs

I kind of like the idea of Fleck or Bryan Harsin from Boise State who is 40 years old.

Highly doubt we would Annie up for a Chip Kelley

Why wouldn't Oregon get him back?

At any rate we will see if Coyle has what it takes to get this train back on the tracks.

Chip Kelly running his Ducks offense in MN?

I'd actually consider going to a game.

I was pretty impressed with Western Michigan's team in the bowl game. They hung in there. So that guy would be OK I guess. Only thing I have against him is they showed his pregame locker room pep talk on TV. It was the most cringey, cliched claptrap ever. He struck me as having the personality of Tim Brewster.

But unlike Brewser, if the guy can actually coach and win and run a decent program, I can learn to overlook it.

Joe Schmit said in a tweet that Kaler and Coyle flew to a meeting in Chicago (he hints that Fleck's agent is based in Chicago)...Doogie says Harsin's agent is Chicago based too.

Doogie stated 3 others went with too....

Brewster wouldn't have ever been 12-1 (with lone loss by 6)....you need not worry. Lol.

That's how I have heard him described too. A Tim Brewster personality who actually knows how to coach.

None the less if he ever utters the phrase "Gopher Nation" I am going to cringe.

Fleck strikes me as a rah rah guy.

However he is an excellent recruiter and had some outstanding recruiting classes his entire tenure at WM

I actually wondered to a friend of mine who is an Iowa fan if NDSU's current coach would be sought for the Gophers job considering Coyle didn't hire Claeys. I thought that when NDSU went into Iowa and beat them. Coyle and Klieman are both Iowa boys. It'll be interesting to watch this unfold.

It sure pissed off Jerry Kill, who won't step foot in the stadium again.

I feel bad for Claeys, I think he's really being harshly punished by administrators who were looking for a reason to replace him. Maybe it will work out well for us on the field, but it still sucks for Claeys.

I have strong doubts that the U will be able to attract any of their top choices. After the way they botched the handling of this, plus U's prior track record of coaching instability, any coach worth his salt will have very strong reservations about taking that position. It may be a Big10 school, but this is not a prestigious location for football, and the likely risk of lost recruits over the way this was handled is going to set the program back even further.

Furthermore, this episode will likely make recruiting even more difficult since there is still the perception among players (which will extend to potential recruits) that some of those suspended were not given due process. The administration has demonstrated that it considers the continually changing accusations (3+ different versions?) of a drunk individual to be valid grounds for suspension, dismissal or expulsion, even if the individual(s) may not have been at the location in question. Would a recruit be willing to risk playing there, if all it takes is someone to make an accusation to get them similarly booted? How do other schools handle this stuff? I can't believe all schools are willing to throw players and coaches under the bus the moment someone cries wolf.

The way this whole thing has been handled by the administration makes me wonder if anybody will be willing to work for them. The U of M is a Big10 school in name only, and every coach and recruit in the country knows it. There is a reason none of the top notch talent in the state stays home to go to school there. I don't see anything changing with Coyle, it will just have a different spin on it. Same old, same old.....

Yeah I like Kill but someone needs to tell him when he leaves he doesn't get to run the MN football program any more. Getting rid of Claeys now was the right decision, for many reasons, not necessarily a reflection on Claeys as a man.

Old Jer sure did pick up some classic Minnesota passive aggressiveness while he was here. His whole statement teetered back and forth. "How dare those incompetent bastards do that...but nothing personal".

I would bring in the young guy (Fleck) from Western Michigan.

He just got beat by Wisconsin. He fits the Gopher HC profile.

He's done a lot of nice things at that school. The quality of athlete he had on the field at such a small school was impressive.

All they need is Phil Knight-type money to get him.

Rumor was a lot of season tickets didn't get renewed and they were having trouble with donations for the athletic village....Claeys wasnt the type of coach to help with it (Jerry was better). Jerry is no big loss as Claeys was the better coach. Kill somehow thinks he is royalty--doesn't make sense to me.

If Fleck is the man so be it.

Coyle needs to move quickly so Fleck has time to work his magic so there isn't a mass exodus of players

I can't remember why he got booted at OSU. Wasn't it recruiting violations?
