This team looks bad so far. They do have 2 new coordinators though

THAT'S an All-American WR we have there.
Pathetic call on 3rd-and-2, pathetic throw, and your stud bails them all out.

Good Lord, we've fallen into this trap nicely.
Come in, act like sheep, and give yourself little chance to win a game you should win easily.
Predictable.

Unreal.

I now know where last years Vikings ST coach went .... he's the new D coordinator at the U.
We don't play defense, we run to, then run alongside of, then chase, ballcarriers.
Embarassing. Its like we are playing at 1/4 speed.
Extremely disappointing.

I would be pissed if my local HIGH SCHOOL team was this poorly-prepared.
It looks like half these kids don't even know the rules of the game.
This is horrible DI football right now.

And just as quickly, our 2-minute offense looks sharp.

UNI comes within a whisker of beating big bad Iowa.
THAT would have been huge.

Punch this in, and all the bad stuff about today is forgotten for a little while.

STOOPID call on a huge play.
Going into OT isn't preferrable right now.

I love how we ran to the left to center the kick and the RB took it all the way to the opposite sideline...

(Although the left hashes are preferable for a right footed kicker)

Good kick kid.
One good thing.
We're 1-0.
Exactly DL ..... poorly-schooled.
Year after year.

In a way I think todays game might be good. They didn't play a powder puff team like most of the other Big 10 teams. This could go a long way to help at the end of the year.

Surprised they didn't call any QB runes as Weber is a good runner

Probably a little hard on the boys today.
Sorry. Just got up and was a little cranky.
A road win is a road win.
But we've got a lot of work to do.
Looks like OSU and Iowa do, too.

Weber was horrible for most of the game.  Saying that, this game was on a couple of people:

Cosgrove - Our Nebraska friends warned us about him.  Seriously, it took you that long to make what could be the easiest adjustments in the game?  If you have a RB lined up at QB and only put 7 guys in the box you deserve to be fired.

Fisch - Your play calling sucks.  Go back and learn some more from such greats as Shanny/Gruden ect.....  Decker is quintuple covered and  you can't design a play to take advantage of the WR opposite of him?

Brewster - atrocisous use of TO's and challanges.  A timeout when the other team is punting???

All in all a win but one of the worst feeling ones in a while.

He threw for 63% last year and they decided to mess with his throwing motion

Was worried to see Bennett left late with an obvious shoulder problem.
Any word?
Good point on Weber, Jim .... he should be a threat to defenses to run, and he wasn't today.

Is he working with the Twins pitching coaches? They like to screw with mechanics too.

All right, everybody calm down. It was the first game of the season, on the road against a BCS eligible team. This is the kind of game they have routinely lost over the last few years.
Cosgrove is the co coordinator on defense so the defensive adjustments aren't all on him.
Weber acknowledged before the season that the adjustments in his throwing motion were necessary to get to the next level. While his motion was good for a 63% completion rate it was also contributed to turnovers.
My biggest concern with Weber is continued over reliance on Decker. He still looks almost exclusively for Decker on every passing play.

My biggest concern

Mine,

O-Cord
1/2 half D was eerily similar to every Mason D

And, to call Cuse a BCS eligible team is a bit over the top Sweens, don't you think?  Hell, Indiana is BCS eligible every year.   They've been shitty for years and now have a team with a brand new coaching staff that is counting on a guy who hasn't played QB in 4 years.  Panic, a bit maybe, but the signs for concerns are right in our faces.

Yeah, most of the panic came in the 2nd quarter when it looked like we were playing 8 man football on defense.

They are in fact BCS eligible. Meaning they are a legitimate Division 1 program, whether they have been down the last couple of years or not. Cuse is not one of these Division 1A or D2 human sacrifices the Gophers have opened against the last several years. We were also playing in their stadium. I am not saying there are no areas to be concerned about, but some of the gloom and doom same shit different year based on a bad half of football in the 1st game were a little over the top.
My biggest concern right now is Weber continuing to look constantly for Decker even thought the receiving core is vastly improved. If he doesn't make some strides I think Brewster shouldn't hesitate to go to Gray.

I was expecting more, but we did win in spite of ourselves. I'm not usually a rag on the coaches guy, but you could tell we weren't well prepared for this game. The lack of putting an extra safety in the box against the Wildcat is one example. It's not like Syracuse was unpredictable when they were going to run it. They ran it on first down almost all the time, and never on any other down. You could also tell we weren't ready for the noise. Anytime Weber audibled, we had a false start. At that point, the defense knew what the snap count would be on an audible and that's a huge disadvantage.

BTW, we had a supposed 5 star JUCO recruit at WR named Carpenter. Did he even see the field today? We need other wideouts to step up, Weber's overreliance on Decker will come and bite us against better teams. Hopefully Bennett isn't hurt too bad, he is far and away our best back. Quit dicking around with Eskridge and have Bennett on the field all the time.

Bottom line, unless we play much better we will get HOUSED the next two weeks when we open TCF against Air Force and Cal. Cal is looking like the truth against Maryland tonight, and I have a feeling Air Force will put up about 300 yards rushing on us.

Agree drew.
AF had over 500 yards in mauling their opponent.
Our D will have their hands full.
And Cal is a formidable opponent for anyone in the country
I like the tougher schedule.
Part of the reason today bothered me, was it WAS the opponent we should handle early.
But we won, best thing we did.
Thats the kind of game that used to be a sure loss. Baby steps.

Where was Hayo Carpenter yesterday? Did he even play?

That was a game we were VERY lucky to win. Weber looked terrible other than the last drive. Accuracy was putrid from him. What the hell was with all the long counts on offense? False start after false start and they continue to go on long counts! Plenty of room for improvement, but again, it is a win for a team with many new coaches in important positions. We won on the road and Iowa and Ohio State, both ranked teams, almost lose in huge upsets AT HOME.

Looks like another banner season for the Big 10.
