Good point on Weber, Jim .... he should be a threat to defenses to run, and he wasn't today.


Souhan was with Rosen last night and said this new system takes away one of Webers biggest assests, his running game. You and I aren't the only ones

Exactly. Historically week one has been full of major scares and upsets across college football. They need to play a lot better in the coming weeks. Fortunately I believe they can.

This could be one of those old track meets we used to have with Purdue, the 48-45 type.
I'm not sure if our D is ready to stop the AF attack at this point.
I hope so.
I think we better try to control the ball as much as possible on O.

Nothing very official, but it sounds like he doesn't have the playbook down yet.  I think he got in a few plays on offense and special teams last week.  Hopefully that increase significantly as the season goes.  If not, then a redshirt may be best.  I know Brew doesn't like to use that, but it seems kinda silly to use up one of the two years of eligibility he has left.....like C. McKinley did last year.  JMO.

I have some confidence in the middle of our D.  The DT's and L. Campbell must shut down their FB, and I think they can.  I'm more concerned if our big DE's can contain their quick backs. 


Pretty sure we'll hold 'em under 72 though.....

Status: offline 		The team AF stomped last week was pathetic even by the standards of previous Gopher preseason schedules. There is no doubt AF has an improving program, but I am not that worried.

Status: offline 		The D settled down pretty nicely in the 2nd half but I'm just as worried about the O.  Weber looked pretty bad at times last week and Cuse did/does not have a good D.

Status: offline 		I think Weber is a little off because the new offense is very different to run than the stretch. The other thing is that he still clearly fixates too much on Decker. He will check off to Decker on plays that aren't called for him, but when the play is called for Decker and he is covered Weber rarely looks for his second and third options.

Honorary captain will be Bud Grant. I wonder if they have a new one all year. Dave Winfield and Paul Giel would make good ones also

Status: offline 		Two games in a row in which it took them until the second half to start hitting on all cylinders on offense.

The Gopher defense had a lot to deal with because on just about every play the AF offense did multiple fakes and change of direction. Good job defense - and way to go Gophers!

Status: offline 		Again, Weber is unable to look for anyone but Decker. Second week in a row that 50% of his completions were to #7. In the second half they put some different routes in to get him open, but in the first half AF focused on taking away Decker's bread and butter routes and Weber still tried to force it in. I recall one play where he even tried to force it into triple coverage. This offense is never going to develop any continuity until Weber starts looking for second option receivers.

Great game by Triplett.

Status: offline 		Echo what Sweens said.  I can't believe the D pulled it together like that but Weber is killing us right now.  He has weapons but just locks in on Decker.   It was weird hearing the noise from the crowd last night too.  Normally, in the Dome, you could Welcome to the Jungle like it was playing in your living room stereo.  Last night, not so much!  


It  was sweet to actually have home field advantage.

Finally, I ripped Brewster last week, but I was impressed by him last night. When Weber was begging to go for it on the 4th and 1 with about 7 minutes left and he kicked the FG, that was absolutely the right call. And keeping the points instead of the 1st down on the AF personal foul was also a call I agree with. There's a very small chance AF is going to score twice in that amount of time with the offense they run.

I would have taken the points off the board and used up the clock more. The offense was in a rythem at that time and could possibly change the 3 into 7 with much less time on the clock. If not, it would be an easier chance for a FG if stopped short of the goal

Most of the time, I would agree with you. But not at that time in the game. It made it a 2 possession game, and I'll take my chances against AF not scoring twice with that much time on the clock. You never know when we might fumble or have an interception.

I agree 100%. It was the right choice. We made it a two score game and Air Force essentially ran out the clock for us.
