Although not technically bowl eligible after that win, I think we are bowl eligible because we always have one of the top graduation rates in the country - so we should get a bowl game even if we finish 5-7.

I think a win at Northwestern is possible, though they likely won't be favored. Then they'd have 6 and be 'legit' bowl eligible.

Matt's correct. We are pretty well in a bowl game with the win today. There will likely be a few 5 - 7 teams in bowl games this year. The Gophers are first or second in academic progress in the country.

I know, but 5-7 is the new 6-6 a far as records where it just doesn't feel right going to a bowl game.

I agree it doesn't feel right. There are too damn many bowl games.

Regardless, yes I'll take any bowl game. Why not? It's basically a free nationally broadcast promotional video for your program. It's a recruiting aid.

Steve, am sadden to see the once-uber program in this current state. Getting crushed by MN is just another brick in this year's wall for NEB.

When we think it can't get worse, it does.
Go Gophers!

The extra week of practice for young players in invaluable.

Still in shock
Never thought I'd see the day the gophers roll over The Huskers
My Husker fan friends used to just brutalize me back in the 84-13 days .....
It's so bad I can't even let em have it
Their eyes never leave their shoes.
It's almost impossible to ruin a program like that, to this level. They quit Saturday.
They were what we used to be, maybe even worse. One or two studs who kept playing, most just laid down.

That said, I really like some of our kids. Barber is a man. A couple of our linemen on both sides of the ball are developing nicely.
And as usual, our RBs are studs.
Fun, relaxing win. Much needed for the program.

I remember that 84-13 game. Osborne still had his stars in the game when Nebraska was in the 60's. A real dick move.

Oh no we suck again!!

19 2nd q points for NW.

An offense that is not made for comebacks.

Row the boat home

1. Through three quarters Demry Croft was 2/11 with 3 interceptions and his receivers had dropped 4 passes. One of those drops bounced into a Northwestern defender for Croft’s third interception. As a unit, the receivers all received failing grades.

2. Not that we should excuse Croft’s game. Sure, his offensive line was beat on almost every passing play even after Northwestern stopped sending more than four. Sure, as mentioned above his receivers were so miserable that he rarely had any targets. Even so, the Gophers also had Bad Croft today. He was late on decisions, overthrew several balls, and amazingly underthrew a deep ball with the wind for his second interception.

3. The defense gave up 215 yards of rushing in three quarters. That number would have been higher if the Northwestern defense had not turned Minnesota five times in a little over three quarters. Actually that last sentence is not entirely accurate. Rodney Smith ran into his own offensive lineman and fumbled the ball.

Fleck got severely out coached too. Down 19, with the wind at our backs, we had a 4th and 6 in their territory. He punted. Sure 4th and 6th isn't exactly a gimme but it was the best shot we had to get back in the game.

Of course Santoso punted it through the damn endzone (Fleck should have considered that) so it was about a 20 yard net gain. Just dumb.

Our playcalling also left a lot to be desired.

The Huskers are at a historic low. I told you guys when we got in the Big 10 that we didn't have a defense and that has been proven year after year.
Only thing keeping folks interest right now is the Scott Frost talk.

Damn fellas.
You can lose at Northwestern, but you can't get stomped like that.
Come the hell on.

Through three quarters Demry Croft was 2/11

That's an indictment of the program, period

11 pass attempts in 3 quarters.

Hells bells, find some bribe money and recruit the Caledonia kid. I guarantee he's a damn side better than this.
He's smart though. Going to play hoops at NDSU and save his brain.

We discussed this at length at our hockey scrimmage today ...
Find a damn 5 star guy (who's not playing) at some other school, and offer him the moon.
ANYTHING is better than this kid.
He looked better vs Nebraska, probably only because Nebraska sucked.

He has zero pocket presence. It's embarrassing.

That being said, come on Fleck and staff. Let me guess, they just ran a play and it was a read option where Croft hands off right in to the pile. I'm right? Wow, shocking.

This offense has zero ability and it starts with the coaches. The D also sucks. Right up the middle and we had no answer.

Track record at W Michigan was not bad at all. Then the hoo-rah stuff and such had me thinking he was promising.

This? embarrassing. There was no real QB plan from the start, and the offense is as bland as can be. Boring.

I see the ROW THE BOAT shirts in Scheel's and SKI U MAH

How about winning some games? Bleh.

How is it that programs out there set up wide open offenses and are entertaining at the least, and the U continues to grind out 3 yards at a time? Unreal.

Kids want to go places and have fun. This is boring as can be football. How many high schools in the state have offensive schemes with more imagination, and success?

You want the players to come? Get real. Offense is no longer read option grind ball.

What's worse is our read option is the easiest in the country to defend. Croft refuses to keep it. It's the same play every dang time. And when he did finally get a different play called the WR's couldn't catch. 88 and 25 should have their scholarships taken back after yesterday.
